Default Stripping my way through college

    Hey ladies,
So I am quite new.. How many of you have stripped throughout college to pay for school? do you think it was worth it? How was your experience?

The reason I am asking is because I am highly considering stripping throughout college since school is so expensive. I currently work one full time job but it still isn't enough to pay for school & to keep up with all my bills. I've applied to fafsa but I've been denied & I also applied for scholarships. I already dropped out of college once due to financial issues. And I refuse to take out student loans until my last two years of uni.

I haven't started stripping yet because I've had to sit myself down & really think it through.

Stripping your way through college is a classic stripper archetype, so you'll be following in the footsteps of thousands of previous dancers.

Many find it worthwhile because it not only affords them school, but also a higher quality of living while studying and the luxury to do internships or work for free. Others find it worthwhile in a different sense, in that they find vanilla work just isn't for them and they end up following a totally different path. Then there are the dancers who get "stuck" dancing, because they party too fast or spend too much and can never really afford to quit. Some flounder for a few years and then find their way though. In short, it depends. As long as you work smart and keep your eye on the prize (school and a career, not fast cash), you should be fine though.

Considering you've never even danced yet though, I would urge you to avoid making any life altering decisions based on stripping just yet. You may find you hate dancing or aren't good at it. There's no sense in making this big life plan without knowing for sure if dancing is right or profitable for you. Get hired and try out a few shifts to see how it goes. If you find it's not right for you, that's ok -- you're not stuck dancing forever just because you did it once or twice or however many times. There's not much to think through until you've actually tried it though.

    Good luck!

The success of this can also depend on the kind of scheduling you can find at a club. If you have a more open and flexible schedule, can go in more or less depending on how much time you have during different times of the year/semester, can mostly pick profitable weekends to work, and can take classes later in the day, I imagine it would go much more smoothly. However, if you get a club where you are required to work 3-4+ nights a week, on schoolnights, and you have 8 or 9am classes... you will burn out QUICKLY. Trust me on this.

Try it out. See what you can find, and do it for long enough that you're sure you can stand it long-term and make money that isn't just "new girl money." If it's not worth it, move on to a different plan. But there's no harm in trying and seeing if it can work for you. There are definitely perks to stripping through college if you can get on a good schedule, don't get caught up in partying too much, and can last the several years.

I am a junior in college, dancing my way through. It has helped so much. I can afford tuition and housing while working less hours so that can study more.

I've been dancing as my only income while I do my 2nd bachelors degree. I still took loans to pay tuition since I didn't want to be shackled to paying that extra $1500 every month, and the repayment terms on fed loans are good enough that I was comfortable doing that. Unfortunately if you can't get federal loans, that isn't an option; I won't touch a private loan with a 30 foot pole.

I average 1-2 shifts a week (3-4 on breaks and 0-2 during school) and can afford my half of the bills and a car payment, and then had the free time for some extra curriculars. It was the best option; the second best thing would be waiting tables and having to work 4-5 shifts a week. Easy choice! Totally worth any of the downsides, IMO.

Aurora raises a good point about the scheduling. If you get a club with no schedule, so you can work a lot on break and then take weeks at a time off when you have lots of exams, it's a great gig. You have to be good at managing money and saving it if you want to reap the benefit of not working much though. You also have to account for how early your classes are. I work a lot of day shifts; the money is peanuts compared to night shift but I have class at 9 am. During breaks you can pick up night shifts and stack some cash up then.

Can you start out at community college for 2 years and then transfer the second 2? Tuition at CC here is like $1200 for the semester. That was the only thing I wish I did differently.

It is the best as long as you can come and go as you please. For instance I usually go to class 3 days a week and the earliest I start is 4pm and I get out by 9pm and go straight to work. I can take off days if I have exams or papers and I don't need loans.

It's great. Like everyone else said its best to work a free schedule club. If not I wouldn't work more than two days a week. Also save save save. And dancing during school with change your perception on a lot of college things.

I did it before college, moved out half way through and acquired PTSD from pushing myself to be in the club when it was full of assholes customers and douchebag managers.
I can't say for sure I would have been more emotionally stable had I done something else like waiting tables but who knows. I definitely would have been broke though so it's a trade off. When you are dancing, living alone, and have bills and tuition that MUST be paid, it can put you in a bad place mentally with NEEDING to go to the club for financial reasons while emotional reasons are telling you it isn't healthy.

Again, it's a trade off. I couldn't STAND living on ramen and not having new clothes or nice bottles of wine or whatever students do. So I chose dancing.

I stripped my way through college. Most clubs in Indy and Louisville are fairly open with their schedules so that worked perfectly for me. During the spring and fall semesters, I usually only danced one or two nights a week. During Christmas break, I would usually book a full week in Louisville and work six nights, sometimes I'd work 12 hour shifts even. During summer break, I'd usually take one or two classes at a IVYTech (our state wide community college) and work five or six shifts a week. That left me one week at Christmas, two days at Thanksgiving and spring break week totally off. For spring break, I'd usually take a real vacation and go to Florida or the Bahamas. My last two years, I made about $10,000 more than it cost me to live and go to school. First two years, I made maybe $1,000 more than it cost me to live and go to school. Anyway you you count it, I had about $15,000 invested in the stock market and about $4,000 in CDs and a couple of grand in the checking account the day I graduated from college. No student loans. I paid off my freshman student loan while I was in college. I owed money on my car, that was my only debt.

As far as standard of living, Raven88 brings up a good point. I did not like living off ramen noodles and not having any new clothes. I hated driving a beat up old Nissan that smoked and I had to check the gas and put in a quart of oil every time I took off to drive somewhere. Stripping, even part time, made it possible to live like a human.

I stripped through Paramedic school and general education credits (2 years). It can be done. As others mentioned, if you are going to school 4 days a week or so you should find a club where you can "freelance" (no schedule).
If you are willing to do for one year what other's won't, you can spend a lifetime doing what other's cant.

I'm doing it for nursing school and it's awesome far as scheduling sometimes. Cons are sometimes work is horribly slow and can somewhat stress you out. For the most part though,it's helped and thankful not to be in debt once I'm finished.

Thanks for the great advice! Just to update I made the decision to strip at a club where I was able to get an open schedule. I work 3 days a week(Friday-sun) working day shifts. I have classes Monday/Wednesday's also working my vanilla job weekday nights(Monday-Thurs). So far, it's been a good experience.

I'm glad it's working out for you and that you've been having a good experience so far! I'm in a similar situation but with escorting. I'm a full-time student so scheduling is tricky sometimes.
