Question Are these PC specs good? and I need some hardware advice...

Hi all - I have finally got round to building my new machine (well, I am ordering a custom-build!) and need some help and advice.

I will be using the PC to cam on various sites (individually at first, then will splitcam in a few months time) and also edit content such as clips and pics. I am NOT a gamer.

So: are these specs good for what I will be using it for?

    CPU - Intel Core i7 5960x Extreme (8 x 3.0 GHZ - Turbo 8 x 3.5 GHZ)
Heatsink - Corsair Hydro Series H100i (Advanced Liquid Cooling)
    RAM - Corsair 16GB Vengeance LPX 3000MHz (2x8GB) - Lifetime Warranty (DDR4)
    Motherboard - Asus X99-A (Intel X99) - 5xUSB3/4xUSB2
Wired Networking - Motherboard Integrated Ethernet Lan (Broadband Ready)
Sound - Motherboard Integrated HD Sound
    Hard Drive - 2 TB Seagate (2000 GB) SATA-III HDD 7200 RPM 64MB
    Optical Drive - Samsung 24x DVD/CD Re-Writer/Reader - Black - (SATA)
OS - Windows 10 Home Edition

Video Card - You will notice that there is no video/graphics card. This is because I got confused as to what exactly I should buy. I know a dedicated card is in order, I also know that I don't need anything amazing as I won't be gaming. However, there is the issue of editing clips and playback, so I want SOMETHING to do a decent job. But what exactly should I be looking for?

Power supply - there was a choice, and I don't know what I am supposed to be looking for. The one I chose for my quote was 'Corsair 350W PSU - Low Noise', but I have no idea if this is good, crap, whatever...what exactly should I be looking for?

Network Card - Should I get a separate dedicated Network Card? (available for my machine: Intel Gigabit PRO 1000CT Wired Business Network Card (PCI-E) ) Or just go with the built in one?

Sound Card - again, should I get a dedicated sound card?

Are there any problems running Streamate or Adultwork on Windows 10?

Monitor - what should I be looking for in terms of size/price/quality/brand?

Thanks - and sorry for all the questions, this is a mega-investment for me and I want to get it right first time, as I would hate to get my lovely new custom build and find it doesn't like Streamate, or that I hate my monitor display!

Others may disagree, but I think that's more than enough. Your processor alone is FIRE and it's going to be the one thing that everything you do will be dependent on.

Corsair RAM (imo) is some of the best you can get. I don't know much about Windows 10 since I'm a Mac girl now, but it sounds like you'll be fine.

I would encourage you, however, to look into a good power supply because you got some hardworking hardware and you probably don't want it all to burn out quick.

    Best of luck!

We have that cooler on our server CPU. Hubby didn't stop talking about it for 3 days after he installed it - he's over my shoulder going "COOL, she got one too!"

    - But it is power hungry...very power hungry being a liquid pump system. We had 1000w on the machine and still got random weird shutdowns, we switched it for a 1200w and no problems after that. He had a pump on the graphics card also, so that doubled the needs. For that powerful of a machine, 350w is completely inadequate - hubby's saying 800-1000w should be fine.
    - Dedicated sound card is completely pointless for a high-end motherboard.
    - The built-in LAN/Ethernet card should be perfectly ok.
    - Video Card - For non-gamers the "built in" graphics for the processor works fine, but it looks like your motherboard doesn't support it. The current "budget card for bang for your buck" is the GTX 960 at ~$200, which is more than adequate for a non-gamer.
    - For a monitor, we just went to the TV section at Walmart. When camming it was pretty far from the bed in my room, so needed something big to still read their chat. You'll want something with at least 1080p resolution - the newest is the 4k UHD...very pretty but still too expensive for us to justify.

    - Streamate works just fine on windows 10, know nothing about AW though.

Brilliant, thank you ladies! That's exactly what I needed to hear/know, I had no idea that the power supply would vary so much so I will switch that for a higher 'number'.

Thanks for looking over the specs and commenting about the individual components, I feel better now that someone who knows better than me has given it a thumbsup

Where are you using for it? I used computerplanet and they will brilliant although it took a bit longer than I would have liked.
Here are my specs for comparison (on my blog). http://scottyhottie.com/i-finally-go...omputer-wahay/
I split cam AW and SM with the encoder, sometimes with Skype on, Spotify all the time and a dozen open tabs. My CPU doesn't go higher than 30%. The only thing that taxes it is converting files on Freemake Video Converter, I wouldn't do that while camming. I also got soundproofing but it's still quite noisy because it's such a beast and I'm often doing so much at once. It's currently up on my desk but I think I might be putting the tower back down on the floor soon, when I can be bothered dealing with cables etc.

I'm getting it from COMPUTERPLANET! *dances* I went there cos you recommended them months ago to me

I'm also getting it soundproofed and getting the quietest hardware possible (cos my old dinosaur (that I stopped camming on a year ago) which doesn't even have an ethernet port sounds like a motorbike having difficulties, and that's just with TWO standard fans!).

Going to check out your specs now, thanks!

All of the specs look great on paper! Just to make sure: Are you building this or will you buy it from an atelier like XoticPC?

For the videocard, well, it depends. For camming it's strongly recommended that you use multiple monitors. Are you planning to play PC games on it as well? The Nvidia GTX 960 is a decent choice but if you plan to run more than two monitors (I do, and so do other camgirls), I'd suggest you to get an Nvidia GTX 970.

The computer you have will consume lots of power, I strongly suggest you to get at least a 850W Power Supply Unit. Corsair makes some good ones.

You don't need a separate/dedicated Network card or Audio card. The onboard ones will do the job.

About the monitors, I strongly suggest camgirls to get at least two monitors, 24" 1080p each. Trust me it'll come in handy when you are streaming to multiple sites at once. It also depends on how far you're sitting from the computer when camming, as Katy mentioned.

    If your budget allows it, here's a great choice for a 40" 4k screen. It's the LG 40UB8000, and it's 4K.

One thing I must suggest, however, is getting a solid state drive. Those things are blazingly FAST and will make sure your computer works flawlessly when camming! The Samsung 850 EVO is an excellent choice! Get it alongside the 2TB one. The idea is to have the SSD for the Operating System alone, and the 2TB drive for file handling.

And there are no problems whatsoever camming under Windows 10. It works pretty damn well. Just make sure you run OBS as your encoder for Streamate

Any other questions feel free to ask!

Ok, just for kicks I went ahead and built a setup. This is what you'll want to get. It's a GREAT bang for the buck and it'll serve you well for camming, even splitcamming in HD because of the things that CPU can do (Google up Intel QuickSync and you'll understand).

If you can get exactly THAT computer, do it. The graphics card is a tough one. Do you plan to game on it? Here's the other option with the GTX 970. If you decide to game, you can always stream your gaming stuff on Twitch.tv and monetize on that as well.

I'm using a company - so I choose all the components on their site, and then they build it for me.

Video card - I'm not a gamer, so not planning to play anything on it.

Thanks, I have upgraded the specs to a more powerful supply.

Monitor - I am going to start with 1 and then add others if I feel I need to. I fancy a 27". 40" would be far too big with my current set-up, and I'm not entirely sure the wall is big enough LOL!

Drive - I considered a SSD, but from reading the "detailed guide to computer shopping" thread on here, I gathered that it's not essential for camming, as it's the processor and RAM that deals with everything cam wise, and your on-board storage (hard drive) doesn't do much while you cam. Is this bad advice? And so if I get a SSD as well as HDD, can I get away with less storage space on them both?

    Thanks!

It is bad advice (About the SSD) because the computer is constantly doing Input/Output operations that require the drive where the OS is stored. Speed that lane up with something like an SSD and guess what? It all works smoother.

Definitely get at least a 256GB SSD. You can lower the Mechanical hard drive storage option to a 1TB one.

Also, check out the builds I listed for you in In he other post. They WILL work perfectly for camming
