Default Has Anyone just up and moved to another city, state, or country?

I really want to move to another state.

Its crazy because I used to move all the time like every two years I'd be somewhere new. I liked the adventure and new experiences.

However now that I'm older, I haven't moved anywhere new in several years, and I have more responsibilities, I'm finding it harder to do what my gut is telling me I need to do.

I feel like if I pick up and leave this will force me to figure it out and adapt once I get to the new state.

How do you all prepare for moving long distance? Do you take a few essentials and just do it? Do you prepare months or weeks in advance? How much money do you spend on a move to another state? This will be the first time I move without help from family or friends (they will try to thwart my plans so I'm not telling them till day of).

I've done it several times. To prepare for my moves I would first work on selling or giving away everything. Moving trucks are expensive, so the less you have to take with you, the better. Try to visit the place you are thinking about moving to before canceling you lease at your current place. I'm not talking about a weekend trip, try to get there and stay in some temporary housing for a few weeks to see if you like it well enough to transplant yourself.

I once had a big plan to move to Phoenix AZ. Although I liked it well enough, after 3 weeks I was sure I didn't want to live there. The clubs were low paying and high contact with $10 lap dances. And although I found the rent to be pretty low, just about everything else was more expensive than in Oregon. I'm so glad I made the scouting trip before actually signing a lease in Phoenix!

i moved from san deigo to VA about 3 years ago to be with my HS sweetheart . i have a friend who was a pro freelance trucker at the time who had a friend also in the industry (this very generous man passed away about a 1.5 ago) we planned for a bit but he moved me for $200 it was me him and my cat in his truck for 2.5 weeks i pretty much tagged along with him while he did his normal thing which is why it was so cheap and why it took so long. been trying to move back to sd and the best advice i can give you is have a car that can handle the trip make sure ur car is in the best shape u can get it and be prepared to either fit all ur belongings in ur vehicle or plan on getting a POD or use UPS FedEX to ship ur stuff and depending on ur situation either have somewhere to go lined up or a hotel or something until you can get a permanent place set up.

I talked about this a lot on here but I Just moved from CA to TX in October by myself. I posted a thread a while back asking for opinions when I narrowed my choices down to Colorado or Texas. But eventually I made a decision and I packed what I could fit in two big suitcases and flew to TX. I bought new furniture out here and bought every other little thing I needed (which added up because I forgot about little basic things like silverware and toilet paper haha). I found a cheap furniture outlet store so I got a good deal on that & then I bought every little thing I needed from Walmart.

But I had the idea of moving in my head for a couple months but it pretty much was an up & move situation since I didn't do any real planning. I had some money already saved and I visited a couple times and then the third time I found an apartment and moved out a month later.

It's probably the best thing I've ever done and I love living out here. I love that I'm alone out here too even though it gets a little lonely sometimes lol. It probably cost a few thousand altogether to move out here and get situated. Now it's been 2 months or so I'm more settled and getting into a routine of things and way happier than I was back in CA.

The cover charge keeps them out, as they have no pockets in which to carry money.
