    Default Icy Weather

So I've been needing to get my butt in the club after my New Years vacation. But as luck would have it, the moment I got back, an ice storm hits my city. Now I've lived in much worse winter weather, but the city I live in has no concept of how to take care of the roads when this happens. I've been told to stay in instead of risking the icy drive in my sporty little coup (a particular model that does not do well on ice.) I suppose I could use the light rail, but it can be really unreliable in these conditions and there's a decent chance I could get stuck out there. Now, I know the easy answer would be to just not go in till the ice thaws, but looking at the weather that could be a couple days from now. I'm also curious as to wether or not it could be lucrative. My club is in a downtown area, so my theory is that some visitors are stuck in their hotels and looking for something near by to do... that and if I made it in, I would be pretty much one of the only girls there. Sorry I'm suffering a bit from cabin fever myself. So do you think it's worth it? Have you ever done well or horrible due to winter weather? Thanks in advance!

Update: Got some local advice in the PMs and I think it's prob best for me to just chill inside tonight. ( I get so restless after spending too much time doing nothing but tv, video games, and internet. Hopefully I can still find something productive to do.) Anyway, I'd still like to hear some winter weather stories and how it has panned out for some of you.

Please don't risk it if it's that dangerous..I went out during a nasty ice storm against my better judgement and had a head on collision on the highway and almost died..my car was totalled. A little bit of money isn't worth risking your life..not to be overly dramatic but there's been many storm related deaths on the Roads near me. It's not just a "drive slow" thing..you gotta account for all the other idiots out on the roads without snow tires or common sense

OMG, I'm so sorry to hear about the accident. I hope you're ok and that this wasn't too recent! I've defiantly decided that driving is completely out of the question for me, at least until the ice thaws. If I really felt determined I would be taking the light rail, but even that poses other risks; especially so late at night in skeezy downtown areas. Last night I was still on the fence about driving there and had the, "well if I drive slow" thought too. I'm glad I ended up staying home, even if it was due to laziness and a good excuse. After that, I ended up assuring myself that I would def come in the following day, (which needless to say is today). Promises or not, I think weighing the risk vs. the potential gain logically points me in the direction of staying in tonight. I also didn't consider that, apparently, there's a good chance we could see MORE freezing rain tonight. If anything, hopefully this thread can convince other people like me to reconsider making a potentially bad move.

I think my plan of attack for tomorrow will be to take the light rail into my backup club (which starts much earlier in the day) and leave just before dark, that way its safer to take public transit and I won't need to drive. Hell, I've been wanting to head back there for a while now and re-audition since I only worked a single shift there in May (I decided to stick with my old club out of laziness ). Seems like the perfect opportunity to reintroduce myself .

It's a waste of time around here. The clubs are open, but only the most desperate guys come in. Also, the light rail shuts down if it gets too cold/icy and could leave you with a very long walk to the nearest bus stop. I had to walk 3 miles in the snow in early 2013 when we had a snow storm. It sucked, and I was totally dressed for it, too.
