Default Trying to overcome a personality trait

I don't want to call it a "flaw" because that would not be exactly correct. My personality trait that I have a hard time with is that I lack follow through. It isn't because I don't intend to follow up, it's just that I can't seem to make myself do it.

I'm great at being innovative. I have no problem doing the hard things, like cold calling and taking rejection. I'm a rain maker! I can bring in the leads and gain clients and am super duper at interviews and sales presentations.

However, things like paperwork and replying to email is next to impossible for me. I try, trust me, I try all the time to stay on top of those tasks. But I fail miserably.

I know I need to hire a secretary in order to get anywhere in business. I really, really need to delegate the day-to-day tasks to someone who is very strong in that area of business. I also have no idea how I'm going to come up with the money to do it or how to push myself long enough to build up enough savings to hire myself an admin assistant.

I think I'd be a good boss. I'm lavish with praise, and hate micromanaging people. I don't yell at people, but will tell you straight up if I am disappointed with your performance. I'm also very clear with expectations. My faults are that I don't coddle people who are overly emotional. I need someone who is tough and won't cry at every cute puppy commercial she sees. I'm like, "Do your job and check your personal life at the door." I hate excuses, but value apologies from people who genuinely made a mistake. If you failed at something, tell me fast so that we can get it fixed ASAP!

I don't know what I'm trying to accomplish with this post. Just venting, I guess.

If you are interested in working in Real Estate as an admin assistant, I'm open to talking to you. This job would be 100% virtual. It requires a desktop or laptop computer, the ability to use online software, the ability to follow directions carefully, a good phone presence and good email etiquette. I can't pay a lot to start, but I can pay under the table. Interested? Part time in the winter, full time in the summer-fall.

I was thinking by the second line that you needed an assistant. Lol. Why don't you look on fiverr and see if you can find someone PT to begin with?

Many creatives have this "failing". If humanity had more creatives with discipline, we'd be lords of the galaxy and my robot would be writing this from the crystal beaches on Viltvogle 5.

A piece of unsolicited advice - if I had to, I'd say you're looking for something you won't find. Overcome it, and become your own assistant, after a fashion. Like an overweight person who won't go to the gym for reason x, it isn't really reason x.

I once hired a sales manager who I thought I could rely on. She seemed to be doing a good job, and opened new accounts. Then, on the first day two accounts went live, she told me there'd been problems.... Long story short it was all complete bullshit. She was so "competent" that I let her handle everything. I never made that mistake again. If you have an employee, contractor, assistant, whatever, make damn sure you outwork them, and know where all your shit is.

Maybe I do lack discipline. I'd be interested in hearing about techniques to increase one's ability to discipline one's self.

It could be the way you're processing information.

One helpful book I read a couple years ago was called Getting Things Done by David Allen.
“Cook for him like a housewife, fuck him good like a nympho….pay the rent and the car note, he invests in me like crypto”

I have had a few different sales assistants do what you are describing. I'm actually looking into the outsourcing route next ! I hope you get some head way with this! I'm not sure if I'll have success outsourcing since I'd need a USA phone and an accent free voice ( it might sound mean, but I know my customers and it's true ).

One thing that helps me is gathering all my leads in a list by month and then quickly going through a few times a week IN BULK and touching base with all unclosed sales. You may already be doing this but the list is very helpful . Underneath each lead, I put the figure that a closed sale would bring in ( so that even if I'm tired, seeing the figure may push me to send at least a few emails or calls their way ).
I try to keep all emotion OUT in this process ( bulk touching base ) .

Man this stuff is exhausting! I'll probably never get out of sales but I want another break soon . I had an assistant May - Sept and then have done it myself Oct - Now.
