Does anyone here have any experience with adopting? My husband and I have known that we want to adopt from foster care for a very long time, but I have all this anxiety about adopting as a stripper. It's probably in line with the general anxiety applicants get ("What if we don't have enough money/our house isn't nice enough/the social worker just doesn't like us!"), but it still makes me nervous, and I can't really find anything on this (besides the predictable "sex workers shouldn't adopt because I think they're terrible!" from randoms on the internet. )

In some places it is very easy to adopt kids that are considered racial minorities, older kids or siblings. I looked into it myself recently. Does your husband have a decent enough job that you could say you don't work?

SirensSong, I do charity work with special needs kids for adoption. Have you done a home study yet? You can PM me if you want.

Edit: As Gia mentioned minorities, older kids, siblings, and special needs children are easier to adopt. In the US it's often done via the open adoption process. This can be a very difficult process emotionally. Just to give an example if you're interested in a newborn baby. You'll be matched (after waiting an indeterminate amount of time) with a pregnant mother. You'll get to know her and wait for the baby to be born. At this point she may decide to keep her baby and you'll start the process all over again. Some people go through the process very quickly and others wait years to get a child.

You can also adopt overseas which is normally a guaranteed process but it is costly and time consuming. You'll need to fly to the country you're adopting from. Depending which country you may need to bribe a few officials to get the paperwork done in a reasonable amount of time. Normally you'll get a child from 6 months to 10 months old depending on the country. They often have a period when people from the same country can adopt the child before foreign parents.

Are you currently foster parents of a child?

I don't have any exp to contribute, but I've been thinking of this for a while, I'd be adopting an older child..
Is there some charitable organizations (BigBrother/BigSister) that could maybe give you some insight? I know they don't really deal w/that, but maybe give you some idea, of course not mentioning about adult work & stuff.
But I thinking if it showed you worked w/kids on the side w/a charity it may 'add to your resume'.
    Good luck!
