I hire a maid. For a cheap one, go on craigslist. You may have to go through a few before you find the right fit. It's so worth it, though. My maid does all the cleaning and laundry once a week. I'm in NYC and have one B/R and I've paid between $60-100. I currently pay $80 and it's very worth it to me.
As far as cooking, I try to make one meal a week that I then sort into tupperware to eat before I go to school. I then buy a salad at work later that night. Sometimes I make this on the stove, other times in the crockpot.

When I moved in with my husband housework became a way of life and is baked into the daily routine. You wake up, have your coffee, then make the bed, take out trash, wipe down counters, bathrooms, sweep, do dishes as soon as you're done eating. (In fact he'll do dishes while he's cooking, as soon as he's done using a pan or whatever.) On Sundays we buy the groceries, do laundry and do any dusting or deep cleaning that needs to be done. We don't wear shoes in the house and sweep/vacuum as soon as we noticed dirt. It becomes a habit and you just don't think about it, and your house is always clean. Before I would let the house go for days without cleaning..this way is a lot more efficient.

As for cooking: We don't make anything that won't last a few days...I make a lot of crockpot meals and casseroles. Then you're only cooking every few days instead of every night.

I found this article and I figured I'd pass it on in case anyone else might find it useful too. It is definitely an interesting take on things. I enjoyed that it actually had a spreadsheet template that you could download to easily try out the system yourself.

I personally don't manage, but I try my very best. I've got a full time vanilla job, an apt to maintain, a son and camming, so at least one of those has to suffer every day, but that's life :/

Same here! Health issues that prevent me to do much, it's either camming more and not being able to do housework or keep house very clean but not being able to cam. Son helps too but rarely I need a maid!!
I do my best tho, i cam as long as i can, do as much as i can in the house. Life is not always fair but what can we do? I carry on

I love cleaning so that definitely helps me, but if someone absolutely doesn't feel like doing it or doesn't like doing it I think hiring someone to help is a great idea. Life is short, if you don't like cleaning but like cleanliness go for it.

I think that lightly cleaning every day saves a lot of time. If you daily tidy up each room things will never get grimy enough or messy enough to where you have to put a lot of time aside to make it all sparkle. And I think that waking up and making the bed right away sets a tone of cleanliness and efficiency for the rest of the day. If you need to do a deep cleaning, do it and then once you do and everything is sparkling just make sure that you lightly clean every day after that so it never gets back to the way it was. You could set a timer and have an hour every day for your light cleaning, just an hour where to clean the whole time. Even if everything technically looks fine you can always find something that can be cleaned, it will build the habit. And if you actually do have days where there is nothing to be cleaned whatsoever, that's when you spend an hour cleaning out your car or reorganizing a closet......

Also always rinse off your dishes, sometimes you don't have the time to clean them as you use them but if you rinse them nothing will harden on them so when you do get to your dishes it will go very quickly and easily.

I found this lady on youtube who has a lot of cleaning videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVK...QUEGtn8gQmhbHw

    I like cleaning too

    Lucky I guess.

You (or someone else) is going to have to do it anyway at some point, so I find it's a lot easier if I just do it in the first place, keep on top of it. Then I don't have to think about it. Thinking about it is more annoying than doing it.

I often do a little bit at a time. But just do something every day!

I'm quite minimalist which helps I think.

Me and my husband split the chores. We rotate chores every day haha. but when he was out of town for work I hired a cleaning service and actually not as much as you think 100 a week for 3 hours of cleaning. She came every friday and I loved her!

I love to clean, but I have a large space and MESS = STRESS! I usually split up the square footage, by level, or by level of importance. Both Saturday and Sundays are my leisure days but I still work and throw in chores. I only use 2/4 bathrooms and my loft, guest bedroom, living/dining, and basement rarely get used. I am however forever in my office and bedroom so mess tends to pile up but I usually pick up as I go or knock the bulk of it out on Sunday.

Horror Stories? As in the robot decides it is smarter then humans and must eliminate them to save the earth?

Like all electronics things can go wrong and having one means I have to keep the house clear of anything that could cause a problem. I have heard that it wont work with black rugs. Some how the laser doesnt identify a black rug so it doesnt switch to rug cleaning mode but I only have white tile floors so its not a problem for me.

The biggest thing is that this isnt something that can replace your normal weekly vacuuming so if you only think you need to vacuum once in a while then it probably isnt worth the money. It wont do stairs and if you want it to do more then one level then you have to move it everyday up and down or get two but if your like me and you have allergies then its a great way to keep the dust and hair down day to day. I have a wood fire place and two dogs in the house so I love it but I dont move it to the upstairs I just keep it down stairs. I have heard some people complain that it fills up to fast and you have to empty it all the time but I have to do that anyway with my canister vacuum so its still a time saver. Together with the AMAZING girl I found who cleans my house once a week I no longer have to worry about getting the house done because Im a pretty neat person as it is so basically Im just tidying up the messes my husband leaves behind

LOL not quite that bad :p

Supposedly some people were complaining that it would just go back and forth over the same part of the carpet, malfunctions like that, which I can imagine would be annoying when you paid a few hundred bucks for it :/

Those of you who hire a cleaner how often do they come and what do they do? Do you clean as well in between their visits? My OH and I never clean or tidy beyond loading/ unloading the dishwasher and washing machine, and we never iron anything. Like the idea of having someone come and do it all for us but how long would they need to come for and what sort of prices are average? I'd feel awkward as hell sitting in my cam room while they work around me :-/

When I hire someone I am still home I'm just working on my internet business . my friend use to do it because she really loves cleaning I would be able to pay her in liquor and pizza. Which honestly ends up being the same price of hiring someone from a cleaning service.

Cleaning service people probably have seen it all . really doesn't bother me that much plus you tell them what needs to be clean. My kitchen isn't that bad so when its not done its litterally the only thing you see in the room.

The whole point of the 4 hour work week is all about outsourcing. Cause if your doing everything you won't have any time freedom to do the things you really want to do.

My house cleaner knows what I do but I still wont do it while she is here cleaning. I would just be uncomfortable and it would crimp my style so when she comes over I also clean. I have an upstairs with a bathroom, my bedroom and office space and I clean that while she does the downstairs. I pay her 10 Euro an hour and she works only for 3 hours sometimes 4! The trick is to find someone who is good at it. The lady I had before was really shit. Did half the work load in twice the time! Before that I had a lady who was really good but that also put her in high demand and so she could only come once every two weeks.

I have a friend who said to me "You've sometimes got to train them!" She is totally right, you need to help direct them to what is most important and what you want done in the time your willing to pay for. Sometimes you go through a few people before you find the right "fit"

Also I try to make sure basic stuff is done like putting away clutter from flat surfaces and doing the dishes so that she can focus on the dusting, washing floors and windows and polishing but if you want someone to do everything (laundry, dishes, making beds, cleaning up toys and clutter) then you will have to pay for about 5 hours a week. Still totally worth it!

A house cleaner is the sweetest gift you will ever give yourself. I recommend it to anyone who can do it!

Speaking of quests for cleaning shortcuts I finally figured out a good way to clean my shower while I am in it. Now, if I could just make the rest of the cleaning tasks around me go so easy!

My secret to keeping the house clean is to make sure that any cleaning equipment is really easy to access and I make sure to get stuff that makes the job of cleaning things really easy. Establish a routine. Spot clean high traffic areas daily. That way you don't have a massive cleaning to do because of dirt piling up.

Wake up, wash up, wipe down sink, counters. Squeegee mirror. Takes a minute. Take shower, use a daily shower spray and squeegee to keep mildew at bay. After breakfast, (or after any meal), wash up dishes, multipurpose spray counters, table, etc. Clean out cat litter box, I use World's Best for Multicat households even though I only have one cat. It clumps the best and I just flush the lumps down the toilet. I clean toilets with Method toilet bowl cleanser and scrub every other day.

I have a stick vacuum on every floor of the house so I can just quickly suck up any hair balls and dust. It has a dusting attachment so I quickly suck up any dust from the vents and surfaces if I see it.

Every Sunday is laundry, we have two laundry baskets so clothes are already presorted. Two loads that's it. (If I had children, I would do laundry more often of course).

Every two weeks I do a deeper cleaning. I have a long handled thingy to help with quickly scrubbing down walls, tubs and shower stalls and I can get away with just using vinegar most of the time, if I need something stronger I use grout bleaching cleaner. I have a spinning mop and clean the high traffic areas like bathrooms and kitchens with disinfectant.

That's it really. You really only need to keep high traffic areas clean and spotless. It makes things so much easier. The rest of the house only needs light cleaning. Windows I do if they look gross and that's probably only twice a year and I use a high powered pressure sprayer so I don't have to kill myself. Indoor windows and mirrors I use a squeegee and spray, so much easier than using paper towels that streak. Oven is self cleaning. Fridge/freezer I do a deep clean about twice a year otherwise it's just keeping the surfaces clean with a quick wipe.

Guests always comment on how clean our house is, I am honestly kind of surprised when people hire cleaners. I guess it's because I don't have children? I do have a dog and cat. The dog I give a bath every two weeks and a groom every month. The cat just makes fur balls.

Outdoor maintenance is only in the spring/summer. Our yards are really small so it's no big deal. Push mower, dig out the weeds etc. This year I'm going to try and grow some veggies.

I live in South America and labor is cheap. I have a maid that comes 3 times a week. She does cooking and cleaning...and for a full day, it costs 50,000 pesos. Sounds like a lot, but it's actually only $15. At $45/week, or $180/month, she's a life saver. And she's making bank for having only a part time job in the local economy. Having a cooking and cleaning person in the states is probably $15/hour...but that's also one of the reasons the hubs and I chose to move abroad. I never cammed while we lived in the states so I'm not really sure how I would've managed it back there. More power to you gals that do it yourselves! I know I couldn't. I'm so OCD and my house would probably be wrecked back home (stateside, that is) and I'd probably be feeding us take-out on the regular.

^^ We have been talking a lot lately about moving to S.America for this very reason. So cheap to live and for what we make it would be such a great life style! Its very tempting I must say.

Hyori for me I hire a house keeper because all that stuff you mentioned that you do I would do that to but I simply no longer have the time! Im not just a cam girl Im also a porn star and I own another company on the side of that. Im am working 16 hour days most of the time! I would love to have 10 mins to vacuum my house but that would make me late for something else! Plus I have one of those husbands that has no concept of how to clean so Im really all on my own to clean a two bathroom, three bedroom house with three porches and a swimming pool. A high traffic area in my house is the whole house but even just to vacuum the main curving stair case that is a main feature in the home would take 10 mins a day! OMG Im getting exhausted just typing this! Think Im going to ask my house keeper to come in twice a week now

I have to keep a command center for this as I have ADHD and am all over the place at times. Definitely tidying up every day in small amounts is best as when I procrastinate I feel overwhelmed and will just act like it doesn't exist LOL
Here is a example of one. Keeps all the stuff in one place rather than scattered all over.

Think Im going to ask my house keeper to come in twice a week now
That's a good problem to have! In your shoes, yes, it makes total sense to get a house keeper. Your house sounds beautiful!

@DeepThoughts...We made the plunge back in '09 to move abroad. We first moved to Mexico and have been moving further and further south ever since. We love it and are 100% positive we would never move back to the states. The lifestyle that we can afford is that of kings here in Colombia. We tend to look at the exchange rates and at the atmosphere our new potential host country has before we decide to move. The Colombian peso was trading at 1800:1 2 years ago. Their main export is oil and with the surplus due to OPEC not backing down on production has the peso effected to 3100:1 now. It reached almost 3400:1 recently. Our 2300 square foot apartment is barely $600 in the "Milla de Oro" which is like Beverly Hills...all the rich folk live here. We dine at 5 star restaurants on the cheap...max $20-30 for both of us. You do need to know Spanish though. We really love it here and plan on staying as long as the peso is weak. Next stop might be Brazil. Their currency has been getting weaker against the dollar but I think we have a ways to go before the Colombian peso is trading where it was a couple years ago...and we're going to stay as long as we can!

Definitely make the move! It's so worth it! Especially learning about different cultures and...well, I could go on and on so I'll stop there. I don't want to derail the thread
