Default Is your ISP throttling the sites you work on?

I remember Katy mentioning how ISP's are now throttling porn, bittorrent and other such high bandwidth sites. There have been laws passed that state that this is illegal however, ISP's are still doing it regardless.

There's a test that will tell you whether or not your ISP is throttling. It's available here:

    http://broadband.mpi-sws.org/transparency/bttest.php

You want to select the one for flash video.

You will need to download Java, I recommend d/ling it and then uninstalling it after you've completed the test since having Java is a security risk.

If your ISP fails, then it probably correlates with issues you are having with Streamate. You can either switch ISP's or get a VPN like Tunnelbear.

    Any other thoughts?

To get a good test with this type of thing, you'll also want to test during different hours of the day (ISP's change the rules between whatever their "peak hours" and whatnot), as well as different points during your billing cycle (ISP monthly "soft caps" based on individual users - common with wifi or hotspot plans). It can get even more complicated, because smaller ISPs buy their bandwidth from wholesalers that also apply their own rules.

The site never got past saying it was processing the data to tell me the results.

You need to use an older version of Java to make the test work. Googling "older versions of Java" will let you pick one from the Java site. It works best with version 7. You also need to use IE or Firefox and not Chrome or Edge since they do not support Java. If it seems like too much of a bother you can check Netflix's site to see if your site is listed in their throttled list. If it is, then your ISP is probably throttling porn video sites as well..but I can't guarantee 100%.
