    Default Desktop or laptop? Streamate

Sooooo I have an AMAZING i7 Macbook Pro. I love it and i will not get rid of it... But seeing as its almost impossible for me to get the c920 cam to work with me and my Macbook, i think i have to get a new PC.

I love having the mobility of a laptop, but i feel like i go through webcams like crazy! And i mainly only work in my bedroom...

Should i switch to desktop? Pros? Cons?

And my credit is kinda shitty, too. But i do have a Dell account. Any recommendations on any Dell computers?
    Is there a difference in 4th generation i7 and 6th generation i7?

Someone please help! Ive had the worst luck when it comes to electronics (Mac is the only thing that hasnt let me down...damn it, Streamate!), so any and all advice is welcomed. But i need it FAST! My husbands PC started acting up so im stuck using my Macbook with my sound out of sync until i get a new computer.

    thanks so much!

Macs aren't the best for camming , but im currently using a 2008 Macbook that is on its last life and im doing fine camming on SM. I also use the C920. I'm saving for a much more powerful PC right now and I will get a laptop as I want to be mobile with my cam set-up. There are definitely other threads on desktop vs. laptop on the site if u seach for it!

I work from a desktop it's a PC it's 6400 AMD something. at the time it was the best I could afford. I only work streamate on it now I use to split it with streamate and cams. but I got fed up of keeping up with two chat rooms.

So now I work just streamate and then my little netbook I do all my netflix and tap into my company training videos.

Basically you need a high performance computer that can handle streaming video for a long period of time. If they ask say it is because you have a google hangout interview style show.

The thing is any of these computers on paper will look good. its a matter of when you take it home and put it through your own personal settings and cam show "production" will you know if it works well for you.

I cam on an i7 Macbook Pro and have since I started without many issues. However, the c920 is a cam for PCs, not Macs. So that may be your biggest problem. Check out the Logitech c930e - it's pretty much the exact same cam, but built to use with Macs as opposed to PCs. I've been using mine for months and never had a single problem. It works perfectly, at least for me. There's a few threads about this on SW too. I think in general PCs ARE better for camming, but I have always done just fine with my MacBook and c930e.

(For the record, if it helps, I work mainly on Streamate and also do indie camming and shoot videos - if you would like help with working with what you already have, as opposed to getting a new computer altogether, feel free to shoot me a message!)

I have an i7 laptop that i use for sm but i am really considering switching to a better desktop. I need to save for a more powerful one. I usually use desktops but i bought this laptop because of the i7 and although it does fine for work i much prefer a desktop.

I prefer desktops because the are better upkeep then laptops. As in it can easily be cleaned in the inside and replace parts. Since laptops are more compact, it's harder to do so.

If you don't need move around, get a PC. You get a lot more for your money, with a PC is easier to upgrade parts thereof, less likely to have overheating issues, and is typically going to be more powerful.
