    Default Maybe TMI? Periods...

How do you ladies deal with dancing when on your period? Especially curious about how to when I don't use tampons... I tried many years ago and it was horribly uncomfortable, now I have more issues with period discomfort and want to avoid it if possible. Does anyone here use the Diva Cup while dancing, and what have been your experiences with it?

I think there is another post of this, have you done a search?

Anyways, I dance on my period all the time. I use super tampons and change them very often, i tuck the string in or i cut it off half way. I've tried a diva cup before and it just wasn't for me, i had problems with it so i never tried dancing with it.

If your comfortable using a diva cup, at home, then go for it at work. I would suggest putting in right before work though, and not using it all day before hand.

    Good luck!

Yeah I use the instead cups. However they are kinda messy especially on heavy flow days. I don't recommend using them for dancing on heavy flow days.

I like to be in a bathroom that is right near a trash can to dispose of the cup and a right next to a sink to wash my hands and to keep it all neat.

On medium to light days they are good for dancing. Just insert one at home before your shift and keep it in for 6 hours or so while you work. Then once you get home you can remove and use another one.

I also would recommend keeping short clean nails. You have to insert and remove with your finger and you don't want to accidentally scratch your vagina inside trying to remove the cup.

Thanks! I'll see what I can do, haven't even tried it once so I guess I'd better now before it's time to start working!

If tampoms are uncomfortable for you the dive cup could be too. I can't use them because I can't get it in correctly

I use a diva cup all the time and I especially love using it while working at the club! I love it because when you insert it and create a good seal around your cervix (you can feel it with your finger/ spin the cup when it's in the right spot to make sure), then there are NO LEAKS WHATSOEVER!!! Zero liquid from my uterus exits my vagina. And zero liquid means zero smells - especially because you can insert the cup, and then clean everything super well in the shower, some parts with soap and water, some parts just water obv. and then dry yourself and you are good to go! Fresh as a MYin' daisy. I've even let my boyfriend eat me out on my period with a diva cup in because seriously after showering I'm as clean as ever. I highly recommend the diva cup. Super comfortable too.
On the other hand, some girls hate it, and there is a learning curve during your first period using it. Some complaints I've heard: One girl's cervix gets really low during their monthly, so they don't really have room for the cup, it was like coming out of their vagina. Another friend of mine said her vagina was angled such that with the diva cup in, it pressed on the front of her vag so much she felt like she had to pee all the time.
Here are my tips: 1) cut the stem COMPLETELY off (you'll still be able to get it out because the bottom part has ridges), 2) shove it up there really good - like as far up as it will go, your cervix, that little doughnut should be INSIDE the cup, 3) twist to be sure you have a good seal 4) dump it often on your first cycle, until you really know what you can get away with. Diva cups never leak but if they do leak, it's like a blood EXPLOSION! LOL Like all at once and fucking horrifying, so dump every 4 hours for your first cycle.

Also, I love using the diva cup because you can stick it in whenever you haven't started yet but could start at any second and you're just like, waiting to ruin a pair of underwear, LOL, I used to hate that. But now that never happens to me! Also, if you haven't started yet, or your period just ended and you have like, gross discharge that doesn't quite warrant a tampon (sorry gross, I know - but even grosser when you don't have a good option to deal with it!), like a tampon at that point would dry me out in an uncomfortable way and also I'd be worried about TSS because of too high an absorbency, ANYWAY - you don't have to worry about any of those issues with the diva cup. You can use them when you're not exactly on your period to pre-emptively plan for your period and to deal with gross discharge.

Also great for primitive camping and the environment. LOL, ok, that's my whole spiel.

I'm surprised no one has said this.... What about sponges? I use them when I have to work on my period. They are way more comfortable. I'm talking about those triangle type make up sponges... On heavy days I stick like 3 up there. This method only works if your comfortable sticking your fingers in to pull them out.

Wow, that's really interesting about makeup sponges. I might have to try that.
I have used sea sponges before but even when they're wet they're a little scrape-y getting up there, plus I feel like it added a slightly ocean-y smell to things which at that time of the month I REALLY don't need, but sea sponges are comfortable for light days, or if you want to webcam on a heavy day with toys. Also, unless the sponge is small, the holes seem to fill with air but then the air gets pressed out by my movement and I feel like I'm just constantly queefing LOLOLOL, somehow I think makeup sponges would be better about that.
