I'm pretty sure this is because society devalues the labor of women in general. Society also devalues the labor of artists, with job offers for "exposure" to most musicians, writers, painters, actors etc. Then throw in the fact that selling sexual companionship is illegal in most places but totally legal if giving away free, and you get this attitude that it is pathetic to provide emotional comfort in exchange for a paycheck.
Strippers are women who are performance artists who are providing sexual companionship for a fee. I'm not sure why, if I as a stripper and taking care of your emotional needs, you feel bad about taking care of my financial needs?
