    Default sobriety support

Hey everyone! newbie posting... I just started working at a pretty dive-y slow club, and so I often end up spending a bit of time chatting with one customer. Inevitably, they always want to buy me a drink. I'm in the process of quitting drinking altogether, so its sometimes hard to say no. Also, I want to help the bartenders out by selling more drinks. What do you do to stay sober? Do you just ask for water/soda? Accept the drink, but not actually drink it? I don't know if this would be fucked up, but I've considered just telling the bartender to not actually put alcohol in my drink whenever someone buys for me. Am I overthinking the situation?

Check out HAMS harm reduction for good advice on not getting drunk.

fwiw, my bartender won't sell a customer a fake stripper drink, idk it goes against her code or whatever.
I use these lines (among others)
early in the shift... "I got really drunk last night, how embarassing blah blah, I'll start with a bottled water"
mid shift "I better switch to water, I've been doing shots of Patron!"
late in shift "I would love a bottled water. I have to blow in the machine before I leave!"

Personally I don't want these guys to think I don't drink, a lot of them are alcoholics and it makes them feel bad.

That bartender is sooo lucky I've never worked with her.
