    Duh Boston accent- unsexy?

I wanted to ask a question....I posted this in the boys section but I know its not frequented too much so figured I'd post it here too

...I grew up in southie boston and as you could expect I have a strong boston accent. I was working at a high end club there for years and realized over time- that the more I neutralized it, the better money I made. Now I talk with a neutral accent any time I'm working out of habit. That club in Boston had a alot of ladies with exotic accents (russian, etc) so I just figured my accent was either too familiar or maybe just kind of tacky sounding.

Now, I live outside of massachusetts and was thinking about talking with my accent at the club I'm at. Personally I think boston accents are hot as hell on guys but dubious on girls. What do you think?

I'm other wise well spoken but sound worse than a character from Ted 2.

Haha I'm the opposite, work in Boston and everyone here tells me I have a southern accent and I sound weird! I personally love my Bf's east coast accent and I read they took a poll and Europeans thought a ny/east coast accent was the hottest so try it out! i personally never alter my accent cause it's just too hard to keep up with and remember

I was born and raised in Boston but I don't have an accent. Most people think I am from the Midwest since most lack accents. Rarely ever guess where I am from. But I do pull the Asian accent when I don't want to deal with a customer. I will even pretend I don't understand and just demand money. It works lol

I hate when females have the heavy NE accent. I guess it depends what words you say and how strong it is. If you say something along the lines of "I am wicked excited that I got a new cah" as opposed to "this jabronie couldn't keep his cawk in his trosahs and off-ad me three fuckin dowlahs for a blow jawb", the reaction would differ. I apparently (have been told by friends) that I used to have a New England/ Boston accent and over time have lost it but it really does sound terrible and low class to me. I dont mean to offend anyone by using the words low class, I am trying to express my experience. I def, still use wicked and "dawlah" (dollar) (I also say "Erica" funny) and people find it cute; however as a native new englander I find that most upper-class and educated people there do not speak that way. I also purposely speak slowly and try to enunciate.

If you can split test this, I'd love to hear your results. (work one day with accent, one day without accent).

Accents are sexy to guys but I will admit most guys hate the NE accent and I don't blame them. However you never know just try it and see what happens.

You could use it to your advantage, men probably always ask where your from when you speak.. so I would use it as a flirtatious ice breaker and just soften it up a bit like Gia suggested so you sound more elegant.

If you worked on the west coast, I think you would do well. It would sound very exotic. One of my close friends had a Bronx accent out here in Cali and she had loyal followers.

I really got to stop bumping old threads but I swear I have good intentions I'm not trying to resurrect bullshit lol. I just want to void making new threads right now lol...

I have a nasty nyc accent like bad cuz I grew up in ave d projects ... I started stripping and just spoke like myself and over time it alienated people. It only opens you up to people who are attracted to that accent, everyone who is annoyed by it will run. Also people ESL people would find it hard to communicate with me cuz I spoke very hurriedly I guess and and all my th's were v's .

Anyway the reason why I bumped this thread is obviously the way I type here I prolly come off as stupid , but when I speak in real life I sound really really smart because after stripping for a while I decided to take a speech class. It never really affected my vanilla jobs (bartending and jewelry design) , or I never thought of it too much until I became a dancer. I could see men's faces the second I spoke (those not attracted to the accent) completely deflate....I knew I needed to make a change and save myself from losing further sales.

Taking a speech class really changed my life and he way I interact with people. More people give me the time of day.
I suggest all women who have a east coast accent just take a few courses so you know how to switch to a more newscaster dialect.

When I hear girls now in the clubs talking or sound as ghetto as I used too i will make the small suggestion sometimes to try a class! They are not that expensive and it actually helps with confidence too because they make you speak in front of groups of people for periods of time and can force people out of their comfort zone to help them grow.

OMG, I lived on Pitt st and LUVED that accent so much that it began to rub off. But once I started dancing outside NY/NJ I scrubbed it back to a Mid Atlantic accent. That's fantastic advice to share. I found that some Southerners love to laugh at it and others winced. Western guys were nice about gradually slinking away when they heard it! My ex asked me to speak with the accent and was like "Jesus, that voice!" and made a face! I said," that's why I scrub it!" But there's nothing like being on the road and hearing that loud booming accent from across the room! It's like visiting home.

Hahahahahaha try being French Canadian!. Putting your money first is always good advice. If I want to exploit my exotic side I just whisper to my customers in French.

Just for reference- it's not considered one of the sexy accents.

My friend has a heavy Boston accent and she was observing the other day that a lot of guys don't like it.

Personally I think it comes off as "I take no shit" and a bit aggressive... Which is fine normally but I can see men in the club outside of the NE being intimidated.

I think québécois accents are so cute! Also Montreal strippers have a reputation of being wild and fun, so that's an advantage too .. most of the time?

Yes- in Toronto the customers loved it when I spoke French and had a good opinion of French Canadian women- basically we have the same advantages as Eastern European dancers- being exotic to the customers even though we don't look exotic- sounding different from their wives. Unfortunately, American customers will sometimes act rudely when I address them in French to say hello. They're like- can't you speak English? To which I'm like yes, of course, but we're in Québec you see I can't tell you're American just by looking at you! Then they're like, gross, French, what a hassle why bother? To which I'm like I have no words for your ignorance lol no, I'm like, i can shake my ass in any language. In my experience, American customers who are WASPs (Jews and other minorities are not so closed minded) prefer English and do not value other cultures. Some have specific fetishes for a certain look but that doesn't mean they have any respect for the dancer's culture or héritage.

Being that I was born and raised in Boston ( a far away subburb actually). I have a really strong Boston accent.
The minute I moved to LA I changed it. Nobody could understand me. Lol!
I've been Camming for 7 years. Guys on cam don't care.
But, I reverted back to it in my last years living in LA, because I just didn't give a shit.
All my Cali native ( so called friends) made fun of me. I now just use the accent when I want to piss off someone, and want them out of my life. It works like a charm.
