Default Was she assuming I'm old?

    I don't know why I'm feeling a bit insulted, but I am.
I went to the drugstore yesterday cuz I was thinking of trying box color on my hair. I asked a girl who works there for help. I am late 30's and have some greys but I was wearing a hat but right away she pointed to the brands specifically for grey hair coverage. She said that would be the best for me to cover grey. I'm thinking to myself, why is she assuming I need to cover grey without me even telling her? Do I look old? I told a friend this and she thinks I'm being too sensitive and that lots of people young and old have some grey. Am I being too sensitive?

The grey coverage ones usually last longer and offer better coverage (I used to use them when I was a brunette and I had no greys).

Maybe she did see the grays even though you had a hat on. Also, my 5 year old nephew and 21 year old sister have gray hairs. It has much less to do with age and more to do with heredity and nutrition. Lastly, no offense to anyone and their profession but does the opinion of some high school-er working at Walgreen's really register that high on your self-worth meter?

If you didn't specifically ask for dye for grey hair, then yeah, that's kinda rude for her to assume.

At the same time, there's nothing wrong with having grey hair or being old; there's nothing to be ashamed of.

Maybe cuz I told her I liked clairol nice n easy at first so she thought I was looking for a product for greys. I know I shouldn't care about anyone's opinion if I look old or not lol

On another note, box color is basically crap..it really won't give gray coverage like a professional color. I get mine done @ a salon, but have also purchased & done it myself, using color/20 vol developer @ Sally's Beauty. I used Wella, & Zotos brand, but liked the Zotos better (Age Beautiful)

I went to a salon, and the hairdresser talked about covering my "greys." I was 24, and the "greys" were my blonde roots. She then proceeded to dye my hair purple instead of brown. And my roots were still lighter than the rest of my hair. I'm not sure it's any better, but some people aren't even rude. They're just really, really dumb.

Well, I started getting a few here and there in my mid to late 20's. So...it's not uncommon to start getting a few at a young age. That said, I still look 25. :-D

Don't think she was trying to be rude.

I say this as someone who's salt took over their pepper some time ago, but late 30's, to a kid, yup you are old.

Another thing, those kids, they have some eyesight, it would not surprise me if she say that stray gray at 20 yards

hey, a 20 year old is supposed to be hot, you get a little older it may take a little more work , but you get a lot of respect for looking good, at least from me.

^That's what i was going to say...I remember turning 25 and frreaking out "omg I'm soooo olllddd now!" Then all the 21 year old girls I worked with going "Omg you're 30! You don't even have wrinkles!" Haha

This whole thing reminds me of this Onion article: "Woman Looks Great for a 32 Year Old" http://www.theonion.com/article/woma...-year-old-1710

Anyway, yeah that girl was kind of rude, but she's a kid working at a drugstore...not someone you should take seriously or value their opinion too much. I'm sure you look great.

Thanks for the feedback guys😊she wasn't really a kid tho. I would say she looked mid 20's. Oh well. I'll try not to let that comment bother me. I told myself for my new years resolution I wasn't gonna let what people think bother me but I'm trying lol

Wasn't the assumption she made, that you wanted to cover your grays? I think you are making the assumption that gray hairs = old.

I went to high school with a girl who was going gray.

Can I address the elephant in the room? Your age is your age. You have absolutely no control over your age. I know everyone lies to my face about my age. "You are not 46! I swear you look 26!" Bullshit. That is like telling a morbidly obese person that they aren't fat.

It sounds to me like the clerk was trying to help you find the right dye for your hair type and assumed it was for gray coverage because a large portion of the population has gray hair by their late 30's.

38 is a wonderful and sexy age to be. So is 48, 58, 68 etc. Don't let someone's off hand comment ruin your whole day. You are awesome, regardless of age!
