    Default Wigs and tans

I have very short, dyed hair so I'm thinking I'll get a natural colored wig. What are your tips/opinions on wigs? Any wigs that are better than others, (or colors, lengths, styles, should I keep it down or style it etc.) also how to keep the wig on whilst dancing and whatnot?

Second point- I'm quite pale. Should I use a self tanner or something? If so, any tips on that or certain good brands or anything?

I'd say yes on both. Get the best quality wig possible, it'll last much longer. Nothing like being stuck "bald" last minute lol. I assume you want a self tanned that's more brown than orange? Go for the pricier, tinted ones in makeup supply stores. Also, two thin applications over two days looks much better than one thick one. Make sure to rinse off the bronzed part before work. It can-and Will-rub off on lighter colored clothes.

There's a fine line between pale/pasty and porcelain. If you can reasonably pull off the latter, it might help set you apart from the other girls in your club. If you can rock the Irish look or the "good girl"/girl next door look, you might even be able to make it a part of your hustle. That said, tanner is a godsend when it comes to covering up flaws and making you look like something other than a walking vampire corpse in the club. If you're going for a hot stripper look/just about anything other than Irish/good girl, tanning is probably the way to go.

I would personally experiment with the different looks in the club in question, since every club is different. Find what works there and run with it.

Once upon a time I would agree, but I work with a couple women who pull off theirs really well. One has a super high quality one that looks absolutely real. She doesn't go for an over-the-to-obviously-fake fantasy glam look -- it's jaw length and natural in color, made out of real hair, and has bangs to cover up the hairline. The other wears a longer, shoulder blade length curly one, so getting closer to the cheap, potentially quickly ratty things you buy at a halloween store, but it doesn't go for the natural look that much. It's black with the bottom half died bluish purple, and it's constructed in a way where it can be pulled up into different styles. It has the same effect as eyeshadow/falsies almost -- you know that those green eyelids and thick black eyelashes aren't real, but they look good. In this case, for this dancer, she pulls off the look created by this wig really well. It also probably helps that it's similar to the natural hair she has underneath it, so the color/style matches up with her other features pretty well, even though it's obviously fake. Which might be part of why it works so well -- it doesn't try to pass for "real"/natural hair, and she doesn't try to force it to -- it's a blue and black wig, but it goes well with her overall look. It's just another costume piece. When her natural hair works better with the look she's going for, she goes out with just that, and she does that enough that when she does wear her signature wig, it's pretty obvious that it's an excessory. She has confidence, which honestly probably helps her sell more than anything. It also helps a lot that both of these women have short natural hair, so it doesn't look like a wig resting on a slightly sloped and rounded table with they try and pull it over their wig cap. Since you have short hair, you'd probably already have an advantage there.

TLR, wigs can be hard to rock, and it'll probably be trial and error until you find a style/length/color that works for you/your face shape/skin tone, but if you *can* rock it, go for it. Never feel like you *need* it, though. Don't let it become a crutch to where you think your natural hair is too bland/thin/not strippery enough/whatever for you to ever wear it in the club. As a tool/accessory, wigs can be really great. Even letting it becomes a signature part of your persona would be fine, if you take care of it. But I would definitely suggest sticking to your natural hair for a while at first to get a feel for how it does. If you want to experiment later, at least you'll have an idea of what might work/what kind of look you want to aim for.

My Italian look went over way better than my natural look with the transient customers. In summer I'd have long blonde hair, in winter I had mid back dark hair. Toss in a nice tan and well contoured makeup and I was good to go. My regulars paid me to take off the wig and rock the mohawk.

Invest in a good wig. Go to an actual beauty store or wig shop. Try on many styles, they will give you a wig cap and a good sales person will help you find the right style and care product. There are styleable, heat resistant synthetics that are beautiful. If you get something at like a porn store, it will be a shit wig 9 times out of 10. Most wigs will have little clips along the hairline that keep it on. Only time my wig came off was if an idiot customer pulled it off.

Myself and others have pulled off shorter hair, you just have to have the right talking skills and jawline to do it IMO.

If your hair is an unnatural color a wig would help with your chances of getting hired and attracting a wider range of customers.
As far as the tan is concerned, you could go either way. I personally like getting spray tans because they make me look and feel more toned and makes my skin look better. Pale skin is beautiful too so you could play with both and,see which one makes you feel better and do better.

Another factor to consider would be how many girls in the club have a certain look. My italian/latin look worked because there was no one else that fit in the category. My club had a lot of skinny, girl next door types. Not a lot of makeup, natural tone or pale, simple bikinis or bra/panty sets. So I didn't have to work as hard in the club to grab attention since my appearance so different.

You will have to get in the club and try out different looks to see what works best for you. It's my opinion that looks can be a door opener, but confidence, personality, and persistence are what will make you money in today's market.
