What a horrible situation. They still don't seem to know much about it.

I just googled and found this http://bnonews.com/news/index.php/news/id3572

How this person made it past security with a gun is baffling. They're supposed to at least do a pat down / check bags of everyone who enters. Some clubs even used wand metal detectors (which I think is better as some people are good at hiding things that a basic pat down might not detect).

    Tragic.

ETA: I had this confused with the NYC rape incident.

The club I visit tends to have a policeman in the entryway/lobby after 12 midnight until the club closes. I agree with miss.a.p1600 that using wands is a good idea. But so far I haven't seen any metal detectors nor pat downs in the few clubs I've been to in Ohio.

I wonder if this was a dancer-customer love gone wrong incident (like sweetjulia's story) or if it was random violence unrelated to any SC activities (like gang or drugs). I'd seen stories on TUSCL where dancers' boyfriends had gotten jealous over some regular (often OTC or extras related) and had threatened to harm or kill the regular.

This is so upsetting. It actually makes me scared thinking of the types of people who could walk into a club and do god knows what. I too was wondering how the shooter got past club security?? I hope justice is served and all the surviving victims can heal from this tragedy.

That's so awful when I was nineteen, a club I ended up working at when I was 23-ish had a shooting. A dancer convinced a guy she was gonna leave her husband and run off with him. She just needed his life savings to do it. Of course, he never heard from her again after she got the money, but she kept working at the club. Totally the opposite of what I would have done. So, he stormed in and s got her in the head. I really hope it was a more random-fight over something etc. Oh, and I can't be the only One having a problem with a customer broadcasting live on social media from inside the club. And the piece of shit didn't even record any evidence. Some people are meant to be healers, entertainers, explorers. He was meant to be a speed bump. I know this is gonna sound bad, but I really hope those injured were those who started it in the first place. Very late, on a weekend night, most clubs are packed and anyone in there could have just been coming off stage, running to make it on time, etc. I'm glad there's no stripper jokes in the comments yet, but I'm sure they're coming. Not to thread jack, but I've never seen a pat down or metal detector in an Ohio club, is that a regional thing?

Exactly! I would not feel safe dancing in any club if these random people are not screened for weapons. One of my worst fears is being stabbed by some jilted customer.

I think the club I work screens kind of well. While the potential customer is in the foyer, I've seen them do pat downs (though Im not sure how thorough) and make dudes take off their hats to get a better view of their face for the camera. Everyone who pays has their face on surveillance camera and the foyer is well lit so I think the image is clear. They also turn down jealous wives trying to come in by themselves and don't allow boyfriends/pimps/husbands/baby's dads inside either.

I live in one of the most dangerous cities and, even though the club is one of the better ones here, it is in a bad area so yeah its normal here. I'd be worried if I didn't see it. Also I thought Cleveland Ohio was on the list as one of the country's most dangerous cities?

Totally is, they just don't check anyone for weapons.

I'm familiar with this club as I have worked in similar clubs in the area. Never danced here though. This club is a small, VERY urban, hole-in-the-wall filled with neighborhood locals. Both customers and dancers. In the city, these type of clubs usually do some type of security screening to check for weapons. But, again, the security guys are neighborhood locals. Meaning if somebody wanted to settle a beef or just bring their gun in for any reason, they likely would be able to if they are friends with the door guy. This situation sounds like a neighborhood issue that got settled in the club as several urban clubs in the city operate more as hangout spots than typical strip clubs. Used to dance at a different urban spot in the city and when it got shot up, it was under similar circumstances. Just an educated guess. My prayers go out to all involved.

I worked at a club for a few days in MA about 7 years ago or so (correction, just looked it up- it was 10 years ago!). There was a shooting there shortly after my friend and I left. it was pretty scary, the clubs two managers and the shooter all died and two police men were injured. It was over jealousy regarding a bartender. I do not think this type of violence has anything to do with a strip club and can occur at any place that has lax security and serves alcohol; but it is very tragic.

This always worried me a little...I worked at some clubs where stabbings/shootings happened in the parking lot but never inside. One club had minimum security at the door and pretty much anyone could waltz right in with a weapon. There was some drama with a married dancer dating a manager and the husband (who had mental illness and violent background) found out. I avoided working for a while because I was afraid he'd come in and blow the place up. Scary shit. Be safe ladies.

I work at a club that there was a shooting in around 2001, it was supposably a mob hit. There was another shooting there in the 70s. Luckily now guys have to walk threw a metal detector to come in. Keys and wallets and stuff in a little plastic tray and then wand checked if needed. A lot of people comment how uncomfortable and invasive it is to have to do that... And I'm always just like "you don't want to get killed during someone else's disagreement, right?"

I think all clubs should have this tbh.

If a business finds it necessary to put its customers through a metal detector, it would be prudent to go elsewhere.

Typically lower class places have metal detectors to keep thugs from shooting the place up but with all these random acts of terrorism one can never be to safe nowadays. I think if government offices and airports have metal detectors so should strip clubs/movie theaters/schools etc.

I'd love to see a body scan machine in the club.

But to be more discreet about the scanning for weapons like guns and knives the wand or a pat down would suffice. I would not feel safe working at a club with no cameras and or no weapon screen.

If places with large crowds don't screen for weapons then they should either charge higher entry fees or have top of the line video surveillance cause if something pops off - gonna need to know exactly who's going to be rotting in jail as punishment.

Too many drunks and intoxicated psychos these days.

Idk, even the really high clubs I have worked at have had stabbings and shootings in the parking lots. And you figure all it takes was however doing it 5 minutes earlier when everyone is still inside.

    I personally like the system.

I agree miss.ap160, a body scan machine would be great

It doesn't sound bad at all. If this was done in relatiation for something someone else did that was also wrong and cruel, like conning someone else out of their life savings, then why should someone else suffer for that.

It doesn't mean you condone the violence, there are better ways to resolve such issues, but you don't want innocent people hurt. Nothing wrong with that.

Anyways, I getting sick of America's mass shootings, this is crazy, no other developed 1st world country goes through this, gun control people, gun control and stop over using prisons for petty shit, focus on rehabiliation, not revenge.

"Before beginning a journey of vengence, dig 2 graves" Confusious.
