    Default Hair extensions experiences?

I've had Great Lengths (didn't like them) twice and Balmain once. Balmain is French and expensive. I don't like clip ins. And I don't want to get the extensions weavedor beaded in either. Any suggestions on good hair extension brands? No clip in suggestions, please! And there is a thread similar to what I'm asking from 11/2014. But the extension market seems to always be updating and changing. Thanks in advance!

I have been dying to get scotch tape extensions. My hair is really long but its kind of thin. I plan on getting them in the next 3-6 weeks. Ill be sure to write a review. I also like sewed in hair back in the day. It was less damaging than other types IMO

I have Klix and I love them! It's supposed to be less damaging on your hair and I forget I have them in. It's like with the metal clamps but theres still a track that the clamps are attached to so it's pulling on less of your hair.. I'm guessing thats how it's less damaging. The salon I go to loves to do tape extensions but my stylist said since I went so long and have thick hair plus I'm very active so Klix was a better fit for me. The kind I get takes barely any time to be put in too.

Oh yeah, I used to have that too. I actually sewed my own clips in because I had to buy the hair custom from Lugo (they only have store in Mia and NYC, as far as I know). They are really good too! Never damaged my hair but my hair is super, super soft and silky. So I had to tease it where the clip ere. Too bad it is so damn thin!

I had the tape ins for almost 2 months. It looked great. It looked like it was growing out of my scalp. I removed them bc it was a PITA to wash and dry. Took too long. Also, you can't put your hair up. I do recommend them for girls with thin straight hair.

I think I've tried just about every extension method out there, clip in, sew in, micro beads, tape, glue gun and the best so far has been latex glue! (It may be dangerous if you have an allergic reaction and should test a swatch on your skin before hand.) Apply it just below the roots with something underneath the divided hair to avoid direct contact and it can last up to 2 weeks fast, convenient for last minute planning..best part its easy. Noticed recently as well that the price on remy/human hair has dropped a good amount at my local beauty store..might be on another bleach adventure.

Clip In: I have to prep-tweek since its thin and the clamps slide right through..this can be an issue if your hair is soft.
Sew In: Lasts a long time with good care, depending on how tight the braids are it can cause a major headache for a few days till they loosen.
Glue Gun/sticks: Didn't work at all for me no matter the brand, it wouldn't stick..
Micro Beads: Unless you have someone doing this for you, get a thick glove to protect against hand sores when using the clamping tool. This method also takes a long time, at least 5/7 hours for me/alone. (They can also hurt if you clamp too close to the roots.) If not properly clamped the bead can sometimes slide out within the same day.
Latex Glue: This is my go to for fast extensions if I am running late and need long locks quick. With care and patients to not smother glue onto the tracks, it can hold up with several uses. The glue can be removed by soaking the wefts in alcohol, the removers are usually oil based and can cause a gunky mess!
Tape: This can be very useful and fast like latex however, if you do not take good care of your hair by regularly brushing it can cause serious knots! The removal process can be a little annoying given you have to soak the tape in oil to break down the adhesive.

Look up Michele11's screen name, she recommends extensions, she's older like me & has used a lotta stuff..
for conditioner, Sexy Hair, smooth extender conditioner in the big purple jar @ Ulta..they also have shine/leave in sprays. It's for extensions, but you can use it on real hair too.

Update! I did some research of salons within a two hour radius of where I'm now living. And the extensions that are done at these salons are : SoCap( I 've heard that they're good), Dream Catchers and SHE. Thanks for all of the tips.

Im in the UK but I go to Lucinda Ellery - and she's just opened a branch in LA. I've been having her extensions for 4 years, and my hair is fab. She makes her own bonds and the hair is all individually fitted and blended. Love it. xx

I got my Dona Bella extensions about 2 weeks ago. And they seem to be pretty decent so far.

Bumpie... looking at getting extensions finally. My stylist keeps recommending them because I continually change my hair color & she thinks I should just amass various colors of extensions instead of damaging my hair with colors.

    1) My stylist uses Rapunzel of Sweden tape-ins, anyone have experience with them?

    2) Can someone please give me an idea of cost? She charges $250 for install & a free follow-up (I assume to move them up), & removal as well if you get more re-installed. The hair is supposedly reusable for a year. If I just leave that hair in, is it then just a fee to move them up each time? About how much do you girls pay?

^^^ I had Donna Bella tapins. They cost me $360.00. Then the hairstylist charges $120.00 to put them in. And $50.00 to take them out. I do like tape ins instead of hot or cold fusion. It seems less damaging on your hair. My hair grew a lot with the tape ins.

I have clips for time when I don't want to maintain regular extensions - some people hate Bellami but mine have held up nice.

Tape ins I had - was about 200 for install or 250 ... lasted a good 3 months before they needed moving up/re-installing and if you buy good hair you can reuse/retape. Love them.

Fusion I've had - def took their toll on my hair eventually.

Damn my hair costs like 1200 with new extensions, installation & highlights. They last like 8 months tho and are moved up every 6 weeks (costs around 100 to move up).

Yes! It costs $120 every time I want then moved up. And $50 to have them removed every time. I got tired of them and the hairdresser said I have enough hair, it's healthy and growing really fast so I didn't have them replaced.

^ damn! My girl wants $250 for install plus hair cost! That seems high especially now I know it's like an hour worth of work. Guess I'll shop around. My friend that does hair (but not extensions) offered to try and I might let her. She learned in school but never pursued extra classes or clients.

(Thank you btw! I was confused between "install", "removal", "moving up" prices for some reason)

Bump-so I am looking at buying Donna Bella clip ins. I like my hair for the most part, but I want it to be longer. Never done extensions before, and I'm wondering how other people like clip-ins? It's not really so much for anything work related (I don't dance or cam anymore), it's more for my own vanity. How active can you be with them? Can you pull your hair back and go running, for example? Since it's not work related, I don't see myself forking over the extra money for having them sewn in or anything.

I love clip ins, but you got to find the ones with clips that are curved instead of the straight ones. I haven't tried that brand but I got My Fantasy Hair at 220g per set, and I've danced in them fine. I haven't worked out in hair extensions but I pull it back in a pony all the time and you should be fine running in them if you want. I personally like clips because you can take them out whenever you want, and I love my hassle-free showers and head massages too much to get anything long-term installed. Plus, clip ins last a lot longer too.

I spend about $100 total for my human hair extensions which I install myself once every 3-4 months from Sally's. I refuse to spend more $ on human hair esp since I know that I'll have to buy more in the same amount of time as I would the expensive ones. I also recycle my old clips until they get gross then I'll buy another pack for 6 bux at Sally's & glue them on my new hair. I do ALL of my cutting, coloring myself & holy crap do I save $$$! I hate going to salons bc they're always overcharging & in your business , and some don't even end up doing the job correctly so I just take a day & do it myself. It's not hard.

Speaking of making your own, has anyone gone to the beauty supply store in the hood and bought bundles of hair? Is it worth it/good quality? I am thinking of making my own "halo" extensions.
