    Default Feeling screwed at DejaVu

Hi, there! First time posting here, actually ever on a thread to begin with!

So I've been dancing for approximately 2 years now here in Seattle (sucky). The clubs that are available to us dancers in Seattle are Dejavu affiliated. Deja vu is known as extremely greedy and great their dancers like complete shit. (Maybe it's just Seattle, I dunno). But the particular club I work at the management is awful, none of the managers do their job on their end and hold up responsibilities, it has caused a lot of the veteran dancers to flee a d go off to dance out of state of a smaller club. (I work at the biggest club in Seattle). They currently have this backrent system where if you can't pay out in full (140 is our house) then it will be tacted on to your balance the next day, now if you schedule a "makeup day" and it happens to be an extremely slow day and you can't pay out in full again, they will try to take most of your money if not all (leaving you will 10-20%) and then tacting more onto your "back rent" balance which keeps you coming in more and more spending hours upon hours and giving them more and more money. Seattle is known for their nonalcoholic clubs and high house fees and outrageous VIP cuts. Winter is extrmemely slow, our club only attracts sports crowds since its by the sports stadium. There are no sports going on at the moment. So we are just stuck until it picks up again. The thing with the back rent is that you never actually know if its true with how much they tact on from certain days, so its like dancers are getting completely ripped off! All the surrounding seattle deja vu clubs are like that! Its frustrating. I'm almost in a sense venting because so much pent up anger, confusion and frustration. How theuy treat their staff and dancers is truly fucked up! I'm ready to take a stand against my management and tell them what's really up. Advice? What's going on here? What's up with their business model?

I think there might be a lawsuit going on with de ja vu clubs. Sounds like they deserve it.

    $140?!?.......cotdamn that's a lot!

Well on the off chance I've owed money I came back EARLY the next day to make sure I had enough to pay fees for both days and have some profit. But yeah I could see how frustrating it would be to constantly have to pay fees and work a club that's usually slow.

I feel like if the club is taking more than 20-30% in fees it's borderline pimping and you may want to look at other income sources.

Ugh that truly fucking sucks. I would definitely travel if I were you. Obviously I know that's not always possible. The whole back rent thing seems ridiculous to me.

^ I just quit a club a couple of months back due to this type of corporate BS in which they inflict on their dancers. I started doing focus studies full time & still make as much as I was making there at that dead shithole , so def try looking into those on Craigslist to supplement your income. It saved my ass.

I danced for the Vu on Pike, Dreamgirls, Ricks, and Darlings. All of them totally fucking blew and Darlings got better once amazon moved next door. However I wasn't willing to pay the $180 a night for my open schedule.

Basically because they have monopolized seattle stripping and eliminated booze, they made it so there is not competition. There's no where else for you to go to pay lower house!!!! So they can kind of charge whatever they want and it doesn't make it right but they are allowed to do it. What they are not allowed to do is backrent you. That's got illegal written all fucking over it.

I've moved onto cam and fetish work while making an occasional trip to various clubs around Oregon. They treat you 100000000x times better and the house is lower alongside a way more respectful clients base. My house fee at the sister club Rouge in downtown pdx is $35 for a night and they take like $50 from the $400 hour vip. You get booze, pricier dances, and better clients. Also, the entire bus ticket to portland and back, the house fee, and food, costs less than 1 single shift at any nude seattle club.

Bleh, I hate their clubs ( mostly San Francisco for me ). It's doable to work at one if there are limited options but not my favorite !

This is really helpful. I'd thought about applying to grad school in Seattle and stripping out there while going to school full-time, but now I'll definitely cross Seattle University off my list...

Ugh. I briefly waitressed at the Vu on Pike, as well as the little club in Renton and the original Ricks. The reason I never got into dancing there was because of the insane fees and the drama that came along with it. Just totally not worth it.

All Deja Vu clubs are sketchy like this. I had a manager let me go early one night w no charge, came back the next day and they told me I couldn't work bc I owed money for leaving early. They also say that you aren't supposed to tip staff (in the contracts!!) and at the end of the night the DJs are LITERALLY holding their hands out for a tip.
