Question What in the WORLD are Auditions like?

I know they vary club to club, but I'm hoping I can hear from some girls that 'been there and done that.' I'm moving out of state soon, and I wanna dance for a couple years (hopefully) before I venture off to college. (Maybe dance while in college, who knows?) I'm not gonna lie, I get nervous when I think about it, and I just want to be 110% ready, because this is something I've wanted to do for forever, as crazy as that might sound.
What do you wear? Were you on stage? Did they hire you right on the spot? Gimme the deets!

Typically you have to call ahead and ask when auditions are held, as it's usually on a specific day. Clubs usually have you do them earlier in the day, when not many customers have arrived yet. Often, they'll ask you to go on stage and dance/strip for two songs. Sometimes they just want to see you in your outfit - I have heard that's the norm for Vegas. One dive I went to just asked me to pull up my shirt and show them my stomach, I suppose so that they could check for loose skin or stretch marks.

You don't have to be a fantastic dancer, most will care far more about your look and they expect that the dancing will come to you.

Yes, in my experience they've always hired on the spot. One time, they told me that they'd get back to me - of course, that was the time that I didn't get hired.

Some clubs will ask you to audition at their amateur night. IMO this is the most intimidating option, especially as some girls try to game it by bringing lots of friends and having them applaud.

You wear stripper heels and an appropriate outfit, doesn't have to be too stripper-fied, usually a string bikini or lingerie set will do. Make sure that it's appropriate for the club, as some will ask you to have thongs of a certain width and some clubs require pasties.

Be ready to stay and work the shift when you are auditioning. Not all clubs will allow auditions to stay on for the shift, but most of them do.

You'll need your ID, at least one outfit, shoes and a handbag to carry your tips around in. Tell the person at the door you'd like to audition to dance there. If there is no one working the door, just tell the dj or bartender.

The manager on duty will probably have you sign something, like an independent contractor agreement or rules list. They may even ask you for your schedule before auditioning (if you are available for hard-to-fill shifts, it's easier to get hired. This is typically Sun-Wed anytime and day shift).

Have 5-6 different songs in mind when you go in to audition. The DJ may not have your first choice or may have just played the song recently.

Practice walking and dancing in your shoes at home. Specifically, going from standing to floor and back to standing again. The shoes will change your center of gravity, so practicing for 15-20 minutes a day for a week should get you used to them.

If you don't get hired, don't take it personally. Ask the manager why you didn't get hired and what you could change to increase your chances. He may be honest, but if you suspect it is your race or body type, he may say something like "we have too many girls right now."

Also keep in mind you are auditioning the club. Is this the kind of club you want to work at? Are the fees reasonable? Do you connect easily with the customers? Are the other dancers professional?

Even if you get hired, you may not want to stick with that club. If you live in a big city with a lot of options, try different clubs to see which suits you best. Most dancers in large metro areas have 2-3 different clubs they like to work at.

Most times it's just to see how you move and your body. Like you said each club is different, but anytime I've auditioned it was just like a 2 song stage set. Some clubs allow you to work immediately after you've been hired or come back the next day or something. Make sure you smile and be charming to get some tips in the meantime (if it's allowed).
