    Default Traveling alone

Hi ladies, I tried doing a search for a thread about traveling alone but I can't seem to find anything specific on the topic. Would you travel alone, yes or no? What are some tips for traveling alone? I found a club in Dallas that said that they hire traveling dancers, but I'm afraid to go alone. I don't know anyone willing to accompany me and I'm super scared to travel alone. I haven't travel danced out of my state (California) and even when I traveled out of my area, I went with someone else. I'm making pretty decent money at my home club, but I really need a change of scenery. I have a lot of free time on my hands and extra money saved up so I feel like it's the ideal time for me to travel. I've never been to Dallas, I've always wanted to go, and I feel like I should go now because I read on here that summer is the slow season for The South. I feel like this will be my only opportunity to work in Dallas because I'm only taking one class right now and going to university full time in August. I'm really scared to go because I'll be alone and I'm afraid people might be mean to me or be racist (I'm Asian and White). I've never been to the south before, except for Miami, which is not really the south lol. Should I just put on my big girl boots and go? Or should I wait to find someone to go with me? My friend says she MIGHT want to dance in Vegas at the end of the month, but who knows if she'll actually come through.

I think it's ok to travel alone as long as you do your research first on the area and club you plan on working at. Make sure you have a safe place to stay, let someone know where you're gonna be, don't be out late on your own, bring mace if you can etc.

Personally I'm in the same predicament as you though. Except I live in Maryland. I have a lot saved up and am interested in trying different places. But I keep putting it off because I have no one to go with (the people I know are also kind of flakey). I also am interested in trying out dallas and vegas. If you want you can send me a PM and I'll give you my Facebook and/or email and we can get to know each other better and possibly plan something out

I say go for it. I'm probably going to end up having to travel alone because my best friend dances but rarely works so she's not usually financially capable to go, nor does she want to take strip trips as badly as me. So I just plan to go through airbnb.com to find a decent cheap place to stay, or a reasonably priced hotel. Plus, if you're going to other clubs alone, higher probability of getting hired + more money for you.

One place I wouldn't recommend traveling alone to, if it's your first time, is Vegas. It can be overwhelming and you might want support.

I used to travel alone for work all the time. My main recommendation is to have enough money to get back home quickly, if necessary. Even if it just means enough to fuel your car. You never know when a trip may go sideways.

Unlike Nina, I thing going to Vegas solo is great idea. You may have to audition at several different clubs and on different shifts. If you are sharing a car and hotel room, and have to work different shifts and/or clubs it can be a logistical nightmare.

I liked to change my cash into either money orders or I would find a branch of a bank where I can make a deposit. I've had to drive around with $10k in cash, and that is a very unsettling feeling. Check before hand where you can either make a bank deposit or buy money orders and mail them to yourself. There are laws on the books called "civil forfeiture" where police can confiscate your cash if they suspect it was from criminal activity. They don't even have to blame you personally, all they have to do is suspect the cash is the proceeds of crime to take it away from you.

Civil forfeiture almost never results in getting your cash returned. If you have to carry large amounts of cash, have a smaller sum readily available (say $500 or less) and stash the rest someplace not too obvious. I used to put my cash in the toe of my thigh high boots.

The worst thing about traveling alone is that it is lonely. It would have been nice to have someone along with me to share some pretty amazing things I saw while on the road. Also, dining out can be a pain in the ass. I got so tired of being hit on while eating alone at restaurants that I would seek out hotels with room service so that I could just eat in my room.

I travel alone. My top 2 protips are 1) use priceline.com for hotels & pay for GPS/Internet on phone. It will save your grass over & over.

Protip number 2) keep track of your earnings because traveling is expensive. It's cheaper to move on to the next city/club if the current one is a dud.

& Always lie about why you are in town. There are hotel employees that will creep on you & possibly snoop through your room. To most of the American public "stripper" = "drug addled hooker."

So far I have only traveled with a friend but I am thinking about starting to travel alone. For me, since I haven't done it before, I am only going to travel alone to places I have already travel danced to. If in the future I want to go alone somewhere I haven't been I will definitely ask my friends for advice as well as scour SW.

    This!! So much this!!

I used to say I was in town for a friend's bachelorette party. It explained the heavy makeup and late nights.

I did this before I finally moved.. but luckily most of the strip clubs are close by each other so you can get a hotel that's in the middle of them all. I used Uber and each ride was like $4. Normally you have to spend more on an Uber ride but all my drivers were really cool and didn't mind just driving down the street lol.

You should be fine safety wise as long as you aren't getting fucked up and making stupid decisions. Also when I was talking to the lady at the front desk she asked why I was in town and I just said 'for the clubs' and I think she thought I meant nightclubs because she said 'oo I love dancing!' lol.

I don't see why anyone will be mean or racist towards you.. I traveled to Dallas 3 times by myself and every time people were very nice to me. Some guys a little overly nice lol. I think traveling alone is good for you and it's pretty cool to know you can go anywhere on your own and be okay.

I've always traveled alone when I danced and I think its the best way to go personally. Things can become awkward in your friendships with other dancers as you may do really well and her poorly or vice versa. Mens Club in Dallas has a hotel for traveling dancers and a cab to take you from there and back. Although the area os sketchy its really not "scary".

I traveled to Vegas alone, twice (: I would definitely recommend traveling alone if you are OK with being alone and are common sense street smart (aka researching where you will be dancing/staying/etc). If you go with someone else there is always a possibility of them not getting hired or getting sick which will cut into your time and money. The only thing I have a problem with are road trips alone because the thought of being broken down alone as a girl in the middle of no where far from home scares me lol but that's me being me.

Just DO it ! Travel dancing is a lot of fun. If you are doing it just for the cash, I highly recommend somewhere drivable to lower costs but if you are blending a trip you want to do and dancing into a bundle, it's very doable to fly somewhere too!

If you are comfy staying in hostels , that's what I usually do about 6 days a week to keep costs low and get a hotel one night a week or so ( and do ALL MY LOUNGING around on THAT day when I have the room to myself ).

It can work really well if you meet another traveling girl with the same values but I was always pretty paranoid and kept to myself . I got into a groove with one girl where we gained trust and shared hotel rooms / rides which was nice.

Well jeez, I'm totally gonna be wanting support from you ladies when I travel alone to a far away place! I've been planning Tampa for so long but my friend refuses to simply save enough cash to travel anywhere.

Also, this reminds me, is there a new travel dancer private group? I was in the 2015 one, but it's a new year. If there's not one, we should start one? I could really use advice from some of the seasoned travelers. (Not to thread jack, I just think it's relevant)

I've never traveled alone let alone as a dancer and I would want to make sure I had a good understanding of planning and safety before I attempted it. Making a private group would be nice for possibly meeting up with dancers in the area to get an understanding of who may be up for creating a local group to travel in. I think it would be awesome to travel with some local SW peeps, I feel the girls on here would be better company than the typical dancer at my club. So hard to make other stripper friends :/.

Well there's already a private group for traveling dancers in general, I totally forgot about it when I made my post lol. I am a part of that one, which is still a relevant group because it is about travel dancing in general. A 2016 one could be cool, but since we have the general one it's not an absolute necessity.

You'll run into the same logistical questions that you would if you were planning any vacation or road trip.

The biggest differences / things to watch out for...

    1) Expenses. Is your goal to travel for fun and break even? Or are you looking to bank? If the latter, you'll do everything you can to minimize expenses. Stay in weekly-rate hotels with kitchenettes (ideal) or fridges (necessary) so you can prepare your own food.

    2) Calling attention to yourself. Don't tell anyone why you're in town, and come up with an excuse when necessary. Try to stay in places that have entrances aside from the main entrance, so you'll call less attention to yourself when you leave your hotel in full makeup (buy a hat and sunglasses) and come back at 3 am.

    3) Carrying around cash. I don't have any advice for you if you aren't claiming your income. There's nothing scarier than driving around / carrying thousands of dollars of fragile, steal-able cash that you worked your ass off to make. Sure, having a night's worth of cash on you is no big deal. But on a strip trip, if you're doing it correctly, you're pulling in quite a bit of money. Money that should be deposited ASAP. If you *are* claiming your income as a dancer, remember that you can claim your travel expenses when you file your taxes at the end of the year. (This doesn't mean that the IRS is paying for your trip, it just means that what you're paying for your trip won't be taxed.)

Also wanted to mention that it might be worth it to rent a car while you're in town (if you're over 25 years old). My city has rentals for $22/day. You can find some great deals online: http://www.rentalcars.com/

I say this because Uber is a great option, but remember you might find yourself wanting to make multiple trips a day for various errands. Groceries, the bank, the nail salon (though hopefully you're doing your own nails to save money), emergency trips for work supplies, etc. That adds up quickly. Also, waiting at your hotel or at the club for your car to arrive isn't the most fun thing, and it'd be nice to not have to worry about forgetting your stuff in the car (if you have your own car, you can even leave your dancer bag in the trunk). I hate the idea of a driver knowing about my business...it'd be worth it to me to pay a little bit more money for my autonomy and absolute privacy (and I work dead sober, so driving home is always my best option).

I always have traveled alone because whenever I bring someone it usually ends up not too good. I have been really afraid, but I can't make money like that so I suck it up and go for it. I use Expedia or Groupon for some good rates! Priceline is okay, but if you don't know the area then you might get a fucked up hotel. I bring my taser (eBay) everywhere (it looks like a little phone). I'm in the South & there is a good amount of ignorance here,BUT not bad where it'll scare you off. Good luck!

I think you'll be ok. Especially if you're introverted. You wouldn't have to worry about the other person not making money, running decisions by them, etc.. It may get lonely, but hopefully it won't be too long and you can focus on work.

Dancers don't need much to travel ! Just gas $ , your dancer bag, and a couple hundred bucks / maybe a card with you in case of emergencies! She's probably just making excuses!

I am the creator of 2015 traveling dancers because our old one that one of our veteran girls was over is banned now. So I started a new group.
