I sort of get why people would use the #notastripper hashtag. The girls who post those videos are usually doing it on public mediums where their friends and family will see it, and I guess it is their way to let everyone know that they're just doing it for fun or exercise. They're not saying anything is wrong with being a stripper just by using the hashtag, they're just making it clear that they're not one.

But they think they're better than strippers. ^^
Some don't want to even have class together with a stripper and as you can see many bar strippers both past and present from competing.
I went to a pole class. She told me that she likes her "pros" to have classes on their own since were so much more "advanced". I was young so I took it as a compliment. What she meant was she didn't want a stripper to be in a class with her housewives cause it would bother them. How do I know? She started me off with a basic spin like she would start off any beginner.. She gladly took my money but she wouldn't let me be in class with "normal woman".

I think most of them don't hold anything against strippers, but they're just not comfortable with the idea of people paying to see nudity. And some women might be uncomfortable with taking a pole fitness class with a stripper because of their own insecurities. Not saying it's wrong or it's right, but that's the way it is.

As far as your pole dancing class, chances are started you off with basic spins just to see how you move on the pole, to get your muscles properly warmed up, and if there are any bad habits she would want you to correct before increasing the difficulty.

I work really hard to keep this semi-niaeve sense of optimism though. Sure, some girls think stripping is degenerative behavior, but they appreciate the skill and artistry it takes to be a talented pole dancer. So what? They're allowed to think whatever they want, as long as they don't come into the club with that attitude I don't see why it matters.

lol i love amy schumer. and it's not that we necessarily care what they think, but they tend to put us on blast a lot. They seem so focused on drilling it into everyone's mind that they are definitely NOT one of those dirty strippers, and God loves them and hates us. It's not something I dwell on all day but it is offensive.

and of course not all pole dancers think this way. I'm more referring to the people in the original post who would hang up a sign like that.

Yes, I want to write an article on the domestication of pole dancing by middle class mums who seek to erase its cultural origins in erotic dance. It would be wrong to write something about stripping without trying to learn more about it from actual strippers.

At the same time I am really interested in becoming stripper and I have regular pole dancing lessons so I am also interested in your responses in general.

I used to have pole dancing lessons in Bradford and my instructor was hilarious, she said stuff like ‘watch your beef curtains, the other day I slipped down the pole and stretched one of my lips so that now it dangles down past the other one’. Does this sort of female body acceptance translate into the strip club where there are lots of men around and you are putting on a hyper-sexualised performance?

You probably should of mentioned that you were writing an article beforehand as well. Slick.

I find it sad that in the 21st century, that women have to actively distance themselves from sex work when engaging in a fun and challenging form of exercise that sprung from strip clubs.

I guess in 50 years from now, it'll mean very little in the way of social ostracization. Back in the 1960's (when my mom was growing up) only strippers and hookers had pierced ears. It was considered very trashy.

Times change. It's too bad that women can't be open about expressing their sexuality. I see this situation kind of like saying you read Playboy for the "articles."

I am sorry, I did not think it was necessary to inform you of how I wanted to write an article. I am 20 and I am only writing for a small competition. I wasn’t planning on quoting anyone, I just was asking questions to gain a better understanding of the prejudice stripper’s face due to pole fitness. If you are going to get aggressive please let me know so I can stop looking at this stream.

^^^^^Well yeah, most people with forum etiquette don't come in the forums covertly looking for subjects for their research papers. And when they do, they make it known upfront. You only saying something on the backend after being asked is like lying by omission.

How would you feel if someone took your statements you assume you're having in normal chat to then go back and use to create their own focus group without the groups knowledge then publicly publish that info for their own benefit?!?

I'm not trying to come off as aggressive but you owe it to the readers of your research paper to do quality level work (informing when creating online focus groups, carefully selecting group members, removing experimenter bias, etc) which is not how you're currently coming off.

We get asked by a lot of people for our time, uncompensated, working on this project or that. I don't know how the other members feel, but it would be my preference if you don't list Stripperweb.com as a reference source.

We get solicited by the press whenever a new law gets proposed. We get solicited by students of a variety of disciplines (usually in realm of the social sciences, but occasionally those who are studying theology or the criminal justice system). We get solicited by novelists and screenplay writers and bloggers.

This is why you are getting push back. Your initial post seems disingenuous in the light of later posts. If you are truly interested in becoming a professional stripper, pole dance classes will not help you much in making a living at this gig. Pole dancing is awesome and sexy, but it isn't the same as being a stripper. You'll see this within your first week as stripper.

Yes, it would still hurt brick and mortar strip clubs because men will create whatever fantasies they want with VR. Stripping will go the way of adult video retail shops. It is still OK right now because a true VR set up is a bit costly to set up but Google cardboard only costs $20 and all you need is a cell phone.

If anything, stripping may have to evolve into something more like escorting to survive a little longer.
It already has. I competed in the PSO Nationals last summer. There was indeed a category for pre-teens. There were a couple of girls between the ages of 9-12. So, yes, this has happened.

In So. California, most studios are more on the side of sexy pole dancing although there are a few notable 'competition' level studios that are more athletic.

^^^ After Toddlers and Tiaras, it's sadly not shocking to see kids on a stripper pole.

    I'm totally starting #ImAStripper.

I find it really funny to see the soccer mom crew bashing strippers, while trying to look and act like one. They want to be us so badly. They want to have men throwing money at them and live this bullshit fantasy rock star life that we all supposedly live. They desperately crave that validation and excitement in their life. But, they can't be us, so they hate us. That's cool. They can play around in their pole class and practice wobbling in their little 2 inch Pleasers, while loudly proclaiming that they're Not. A. Stripper.

I'm going to be too busy taking their husband into VIP to give one single fuck.

So i've been on both ends of the spectrum...started pole dance as a stripper, quit stripping because my ex couldn't handle it but started doing competitive pole dance and then when the ex and i broke up I started stripping again...I spent all of last year working with a pole dance news media company and going to both expo and polecon and many events and I can honestly say after that experience that this whole "fitness/competition" pole dance is utterly fucking stupid.

Its really not the housewives that are the problem, they are really not the ones who want it desexualized. Most of the housewives I've met who do it are actually envious but not jealous.

The ones who want it desexualized are the fucking former ballerinas and gymnasts who think that you can put a bunch of tricks together and call it a sport. "fitness" pole dance can't even get themselves organized under one governing body, theres not a chance in hell its ever going to get into the Olympics...all these bitches are doing is slut shaming us strippers and losing shit tons of money training for competitions that will never pay them back the amount of money that they put into it.

For new dancers...see my post in the newbie forum if you'd like my opinion on if you should take classes or not..i'm not going to take over this thread with that...
