Default Getting a job as a bartender/waitress at a country club

What do you think? I'm feeling kind of burnt out by stripping in the northeast (I do so much better with less struggle pretty much everywhere else) and kind of want to take a break from dancing. I don't think I'm mentally/emotionally prepared to escort, I've been dealing with some serious depression lately. However, I do need to keep making money. It bugs me that I have to drink at work to even be able to go up and talk to people right now at work, I just don't think it's healthy.

I was looking online for jobs today and saw an ad for waitressing/bartending at a country club. It pays minimum wage but you get tips obviously. I think it might be a nice break to have a "real" job and also maybe meet people/make friends outside of the industry, maybe even meet a guy who is a member of the club. I've been single and lonely for a long time.

    What are your thoughts?

I tried it. They didn't hire me. They sent me an email saying I didn't have the right type of experience in the field. Maybe if you apply in person?

It is like a bar/restaurant combination.

Yes I am definitely going to apply in person. Not to sound full of myself but I'm pretty cute and personable and I think applying in person will definitely help with me getting the job (hopefully)

There's no harm in applying, right? If you start and don't like it, you can quit. That's something I often forget - opening doors is rarely a bad thing. You never know where that might lead!

I just did the same thing but not at a country club just at a normal bar. I was feeling really burnt out and needed a break from strip clubs so I applied at a couple places online but never heard back from them.. then I called a bar to see if they were hiring and went in to fill out an application and they hired me on the spot as a cocktail waitress. So definitely apply in person!

Go for it! Although keep in mind that the environment will be different from a strip club. Yes its mostly older men with money, but a different breed--more stuffy and conservative. But still, I'm sure you will do great! Work with your best attributes and be yourself while being professional.

That's a very good point. We sex workers entering the vanilla world struggle most with some things that vanilla workers take for granted (humility, scheduling, swallowing pride), and excel in some areas that vanilla workers often struggle with (incredible customer service, conversational abilities, sales skills, etc.).

^ That's exactly how it's going for me with my 'normal' job so far. I've been late every shift (they're laid back so havent said anything lol) and I automatically rolled my eyes at a rude customer like I would at the club (not good).. but I have good natural conversations with my customers and have been getting tipped pretty well. I've also been good at getting customers into party mode so they order more drinks and rack up a higher tab lol. It's kind of fun to see how you can work your strip club skills into a vanilla job.

Yes! I remember reacting particularly poorly to having to 'serve under' people I didn't respect. Like, you're my boss, and yet you have three operating brain cells...how is this happening? Deeeeeep breaths. Smile. Remind yourself why you took the job in the first place.

Suggestion: Alternative to waitressing/bartending could be to look for seasonal work in your area. Seasonal work can sometimes be easy to get and you seem to be looking for a break in atmosphere, people, and their expectations. That is very much seasonal work. For instance, I know someone who worked a rafting company for Spring and Summer and it was just what they wanted: outdoors and low key. As summer approaches, many country clubs have lifeguards, the certifications are easy. Won't pay much and some of the wives may hate you, but it could be a real break from what you do.

Whatever work is seasonal in your area you may wish to consider.

Seasonal work is a great way to make extra cash! I spent years in retail and occasionally I'll revisit old glories and pick up shifts during the holiday season. Of course, retail work isn't for everyone, but if you're good with people, its worth a shot even if its not just seasonal.

*The hours don't suck. Usually no more than a 5 or 6 hour shift, but I've worked as few hours as 3 (bullshit company policy) and as many as 10 (but that was FT).
*Dealing with assholes is the hardest part, really. But if you're a dancer, I'm sure it won't be a problem. Just no eye rolls! *lol*
*The pay varies. I barely made minimum wage while at Victoria's Secret but made bank at Kate Spade. Consider a small, chic boutique or something on the higher end of retail for the best wages.
*Discounts! This alone can make a job worth working, even if the pay is ehhhh. Some places offered 50% off regular and 30% off sale prices with the employee discount. Jesus... Nine West practically paid me in shoes!

Are you good with makeup? Makeup artists at department stores tend to make more than retail associates.

There is also vanilla online selling like on Tradsey or eBay. One of my hobbies is picking up designer clothes at thrift stores and flipping them for a profit. I know girls who make a fine living from it, but you have to know what to look for.

I am absolutely NOT poo-pooing on your idea to work as a bartender at a country club. These are just other options if it happens not to work out.

I've actually thought about this before lol. In my area, girls often take jobs like a hostess or bartender just for the networking aspects so maybe it will do you good?
