I second German cars. I had a Jetta and never had any problems with it and my dad always owns BMWs and no problems with those either. I need a car and I wanted a BMW but now am looking into a Jeep Grand Cherokee instead.

I don't think it would be a problem because they use the standard Toyota platform.

The second-generation xB is equipped with a 2.4 L straight-4 Toyota 2AZ-FE engine rated at 158 hp (118 kW) and 162 lb·ft (220 N·m), shared with the first-generation tC and the Toyota Camry, which at 22 mpg-US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg-imp) city / 28 mpg-US (8.4 L/100 km; 34 mpg-imp) hwy[14] has a higher fuel consumption than the previous model's 1.5 L engine (26 mpg-US (9.0 L/100 km; 31 mpg-imp) city / 31 mpg-US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg-imp) hwy).[15] A five-speed manual and a sequential-shift four-speed automatic are the only factory options aside from the color and stereo.
i have two cars, nissan murano and infiniti G37. Both are great cars.
I like being alone, I just don't like being lonely.

Watched a vid on the interior mood lighting of the Kia Soul and I think I like it. It might be too big of a vehicle for my tastes, I need to test drive it. Still heartbroken I can't have a Fiat though lol!
How are Nissans, Infinity(sp?), and Lexus? I don't mind higher end cars too, I'll probably buy used from a couple years ago like I normally do. Often the best value.

I think Lexus has the highest quality ratings.

Current car is a Honda Accord Hybrid, fully loaded. I'm very happy with it. The mileage is incredibly awesome. Fit and finish are top notch. It's every bit as nice as an Acura, well, it is an Acura except for the badge and you can't get an Acura Hybrid for a reasonable sum. I had a VW Beetle a few years ago. I would not recommend owning one for more the the first couple of years of it's life. Under warranty, German cars are fine. Once the warranty expires, the price of every lousy part goes sky high. My company has a couple of Ford Fusion Hybrids that are giving us good service and so far have been very easy on the budget.

I drive a Z4, to quote a famous philosopher "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."
"Well done. Here are the test results: You are a horrible person. I'm serious, that's what it says: 'A horrible person.' We weren't even testing for that."

Someone else mentioned Jeep. IME the jeep I had was a piece of garbage. Something was just off with the whole car. Like, maybe it came down the factory line with something placed a .mm off and it never ran right, always had problems. However, my little sister, big sister, 2 good friends and mother all had a jeep at some point (Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Cherokee, and Wagoneer- respectively) and never had the problems I did. I also like infinity's, as recommended by Baer- never owned one but had a rental for a good three weeks while one of my cars was in the shop; also a friend had the big body SUV; and they are really, really, nice cars. Luxury but not stupidly overpriced to own like say, my Mercedes. OP- Have you made any headway on your decision?

Buy a hearse! They are the best! I recommend a 94-96 cadillac. Heehee
2011 Mercedes C-Class.
Despite being 5 years old, this model still looks brand new.
Additionally, you can still find great deals on them, many of which are still under factory and/or certified pre-owned warranty.
Purchased on last summer and have gotten nothing but joy from driving it.

I'd LOVE an older car but I just can't handle the unreliability of it. I also know I'm going to get scammed just because I'm so unknowledgable about cars. My mom used to drive an old mustang that she would work on herself. She did 100% of the upkeep and her hobby was fixing up the car. But today everything is electronic so there's no point for me to learn anything. I'd cry if I were underneath a car I think so this wouldn't end well lol!

Ok I'm seriously going to make a case for this!
I say 94-96 cadillac because:
- 94-96 cadillac fleetwoods and commercial cars (hearses) have the corvette LT1 engine (in other words, it goes FAST)
- the LT1 is a very reliable engine, far better than the garbage northstar of the same years in the other caddy models (just dont let it overheat!)
- 96 was the last year of the big bodied, rear wheel drive cars (better than FWD)
- 96 was the first year of the OBD2, if you like that
- 95 has different and possibly better A/C system, configuration and doesnt have the bugs of the 94 LT1 yet also doesnt have the complication of the OBD2 sensors
- 94 is a slightly different body style than 96, its all about preference.
- Fuckin leather seats, yo... Super luxurious interior!
Why you should buy the hearse version and not a "normal car":
- It still gets like 24MPG on the highway! Thats awesome!
- Super cool huge vinyl top!
- 94-96 is mostly fiberglass. This eliminates a lot of the vinyl top rust issues that coaches generally have. Yay!
- Super reliable because generally they are far lower mileage (half the mileage) than a regular 94-96 caddy. Yes you'll probably have to do repairs, but just be selective
- Half the price of normal 94-96 caddies, way cheaper than other used cars
- Hearses turn heads! You'll never drive a more fun car!
- Lots of room in the back! I carry a casket though. I stopped using it to move stuff because it ruins the interior.. which is again, super luxurious!
- Still rides like a cadillac, for half the price!
- People move the fuck out of your way. If you're blessed with wig-wags, you can use these to make people stop (it's illegal, but no cops ever stop you when you're in a hearse)
- Great conversation piece!
There are so many pro's to driving a coach. They are seriously so, so beautiful. They're hard to park yes, but the tradeoff is worth it. I know I'm not going to convince you to buy one, because you're looking for a normal car but still! I had to make my case lol.. They bring me so much joy when their original purpose was so solemn and sad. It's a great way to re purpose them. And just for shits and giggles... look, shiny!

My 2 cents- Nissans are awesome. My parents had one when I was a kid (a Datsun) it still ran for 30 years after they sold it to a relative. Mine has survived a serious deer strike, several spin outs in snow, wayyyy too many miles put on it too fast & other abuses of a vehicle. Obviously regular maint. made that possible. Many people overlook Nissans because they think they look cheap or something but if your goal is being able to rely on your car, choose that brand.
My neighbor has a super expensive Infiniti & ALL the maint. is done by the dealership (which is far away.) She's crazy rich so it ain't no thing to her but to other people that extra cost adds up.
I've been told Lexuses are just fancy looking parts on a Toyota frame. IMO no reason to spend more for the name "Lexus" when there are cheaper equivalents out there. BTW thanks to the magic of depreciation, most people aren't better off spending more on a car. With the choices available in the US market, you don't HAVE to spend more to get more. I am proof of that (I got more out of one car purchase than some people get out of two.)
I'm watching this thread!

Here's a list of 10 cars most likely to reach 250,000 miles, based on Consumer Reports reliability ratings. Scion took first place!
