Probably because Scions aren't selling well. If you like the design, I think it might be your best bet, based on its reliability ratings. Are you planning to keep your next car for a long time?

For reliability, Prius is the best value to cost

Yes, that is the goal. I just want something to keep for like 8-10 years. That's the optimum time I'd want to keep a vehicle unless it was an old car I had restored.

At this point I'm thinking maybe I should just get an old car and have it restored. Couldn't be less reliable than my mini has been recently lol. These are hard choices!

LA parking is a fuckin joke and I have a really understanding landlord with a lot of land LOL.. Depends on where you live? Apartment complex dont even think about it. We had a friend who was actually being discriminated against because she had a hearse. Apartment complex didnt want her parking it there. Hearsicution is one of the cons of having one..

I live in the san fernando valley. Unless you have a house with a nice long driveway or spacious street parking, its a no go. And thats really unfortunate! You can find hearse parking when you go places, but youll find yourself only wanting to go to places with "hearse friendly" parking. I dont go out much so its not too much of a problem for me. Valet is fun as hell though, I have to admit. you should see their faces when you pull up. One time we went to vegas and pulled up to the venetian.. guy was like Security guy: "ummm... can we help you?" Me:"uh yes we are checking in at the hotel" Security guy: *blank stare....* hahahaha

If you're going to buy a used car, I recommend getting a Japanese one. If you want something small, may a Scion would be good.

I just glanced at the Scions and wasn't impressed by their MPG. Seems like any car made after 2010 should offer at least 30 mpg city, right? Maybe I'm delusional.

In theory yes, in reality no. Even my mini only got like 20mpg lol. Everyone was like HOW? It should have been getting like 30-35 for its size and year by now. I think they are just planning to convert new models to hybrids and jack up the price while doing so. No incentive to do it any other way.

Guys help! I keep being like ok I'll get a Kia Soul. Yeah but it's not your dream car so you won't be happy with it? And it's so big you might as well just get a Jeep Wranlger? Well why don't you just get a newer version of your dream car like Fiat, Mini (non-S), or Jeep Wrangler and just deal with the issues? Okay well if we are going to go that far then why not just get an old car you've always wanted and fix it up since you really want one? Wait no!! These are not reliable at all! I need something reliable! Kia Souls are reliable... And then it's a never ending cycle! Halp!

If mpg is a high priority, a Prius would probably be your best bet, unless you want an electric, or plug-in hybrid. If electricity is cheap where you live, and you have a place to plug-in, the Volt is a good option.

I strongly suggest getting something reliable with good safety features. It could be a matter of life or death.

That would be light duty for a pickup, and they don't loose their value the way cars do.

Priuses (Priui?) look like praying mantises! I do no want to drive a praying mantis! Lol I'm sorry but I can't. They are the ugliest cars I've ever seen aside from PT Cruisers.

I can't drive a truck. Parking is extremely hard in LA. Some parts are already as bad as Manhattan. My neighborhood is that way. There's already no parking so having to park a longer vehicle like a truck would be a nightmare.

If you like the Soul, why don't you just go with that? It might not be your dream car, but you won't be spending lots of money maintaining it.

I originally said that SmartCars freak me out because of how small they are, but I'm willing to test drive one. I would be terrified I'd die in an accident though. Maybe this will change once I test drive it? I don't think I'd be happy with one. This just sucks, I'm still at a loss for what I want to do as far as cars go.

My new plan is to get a Fiat and the minute it starts having problems I will trade it in for a Kia Soul. I talked to a lot of people that have Fiats and they seem to really like theirs. It has terrible reliability ratings but the reviews seem 50/50. It's either a lemon or it's amazing. I think I want to risk it because if I don't, I will be annoyed with myself. I'm the type of person that has to take the risk to be fulfilled even if it turns out to be a bad one. I don't hate Kia Souls, they just aren't the ideal car for me. But if a Fiat doesn't work out, it will be my go to. I suspect Kia Souls #1 competitor in coming years will be the Mini. The newest model looks almost identical to the Mini on the outside, but lacks the fun features and chicness on the inside.

This may all change once I actually test drive these cars. I'm going to be doing that in the next few weeks so I can make a decision.

I like the 500c. I don't like convertibles but I like the convertible 500c because it's more like an elongated sunroof. Is abarth supposed to be the sport model? If so, I want to stay away from sport models since they have turbo lines. That model confused me.

Yes, abarth is a 1.4 turbo. 500 c c has a 1.4 FIRE multiair. Its manual shift is lovely, dualogic transmission not that much.

I must have nixed it off the list because of manual (I'm an automatic girl) and because it has turbo lines. The only problem my Mini ever had were the turbo lines. From my understanding, they are not good cars to drive in cities with stop and go traffic. The turbo lines were continually having problems with oil blockage and leaks, which damaged other parts. I took my Mini in at least 6x over the same thing happening over and over. So I want to avoid any S models because of the turbo lines. Yes, they are fast cars that can weave in and out of traffic, but they have too many problems.

I looked at Fiats at the recent auto show. They look like very nice cars. I would just be concerned about their reliability. If you don't put on a lot of miles, maybe you can look into leasing one.

The people I know with Fiats only complained about the interior being "cheap" and that's it. I know it's made with plastic, but I still don't think it looks cheap. They are comparing it to a Mini though. The reliability rating is the worst, but no one I know seems to have had much of a problem with theirs. It must be a car that starts to die after 50k miles. Everyone I know that has one has a new one because of the lowish pricing. Maybe I could lease one and see how it goes. My friend leases and she has to pay a deductible every time she gets something fixed. That doesn't seem worth it but I'm not sure if that's standard.
