    Default Sleeping schedule

What is everyone's sleeping schedule like? Do you stick to the recommended 8 hours or is it a lot less?

I'm having issues at the moment maintaining a consistent camming schedule and I think it's because of sleep shenanigans! I do two shifts a day (3pm - 7pm then 10pm to 2am). My issue is I find is sooooo so hard to fall asleep after my late shift! I aim to be asleep by 2:30am and up by 10:30am, but it ends up being 6am then up at 2pm! I really dislike getting up so late in the afternoon because it makes me feel mega lazy for the rest of the day and sometimes I even feel too knackered to do my afternoon shift. I guess I need some advice on how to switch my brain off after I finish at 2am? I exercise, eat healthy, I cam from a different room and I tried taking herbal sleeping pills, but they just sent me away with the fairies. Relaxation music and yoga haven't seemed to help either so I'm sort of stumped. It's like my brain is just too darn loud, if that makes sense?

Have any of you experienced and overcame this?

Any input would be helpful. xxx

Yes, I have the same problem. I usually work at the club 10pm to 2-4am but I can't fall asleep before 6am. Your brain needs time to wind down. I don't have any advice other than to maybe do a conjoined shift that way you're not starting at 3pm... ?

Yeah, some women refuse to work the late shift for this reason alone.

I'm in the same boat you are, boo. I was taking Ativan, but it's not a good idea to take that long-term (it had started messing with my vision, creativity, and concentration). I've been thinking about looking into marijuana edibles (I'm way too much of a square to smoke anything - not happening), since MJ is legal where I live. Right now, I take Luna (a supplement I bought on Amazon), which works decently well.

My routine when I get home: remove makeup, shower, apply lotion, make dinner, eat dinner and hydrate in front of Netflix (I get super dehydrated at work despite drinking a liter of water throughout my shift), have post-dinner relaxation tea while watching Netflix, then go to bed. I've gotten into a terrible habit of falling asleep in front of Netflix though, because it's easiest for my busy brain to turn off when I'm watching something. But then I have to wake up awkwardly at 6-7 am, drag myself to bed, and then I can't fall asleep until around 8, then I sleep until noon if I'm lucky.

Um...yeah. I'm a mess. But...the money is *great*!! ::crazy eyes::

I'm married and set my work schedule around his (since my hours are flexible and he works normal daytime hours). We make it a priority to go to bed together every single night. We're currently shifting our mornings so that we both will begin work at the same exact time, so it'll be much easier to stay on track with sleep. Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day is really helpful.

Yeeep. What I call my "serious insomnia" is basically just my body throwing its hands up in the air as I try to cycle between a normal sleeping schedule and my 2-3 nights of staying up until 4-6 am. Back when I worked a corporate job, it only took me a couple of weeks to adjust to going to bed at 9:30 pm and waking up at 6:00 am. I'd be asleep within minutes. If you're on a consistent schedule and don't have to 'fight' your natural sleeping rhythms, you will be able to sleep.

So, in other words, I've realized recently that there isn't much I can do to normalize my schedule, because my schedule isn't normal. Once I'm done with dancing and am working a more predictable schedule, I know my 'insomnia' will disappear.

    Some really good advice here.
To be honest I don't work nights at all. Part of the reason I started camming was so I could do the things I liked, when I liked. I think the latest I even cammed was 11 pm UK time. I prefer to pull longer hours in the morning and the day if necessary to make my goal. I will come on in the evenings when regs who've spent well on me and would like to cam after work, request it. But generally I'm off by 8, and that's if I have a slow morning.
We're all different though and that's why it works. It's boring, but the best way is to get into a routine, even if it's a weird one Try and install a bluelight fiter on your computer like f.lux too, and see if that helps. xx

I have a terrible sleep pattern. I'm a total vampire by nature and prefer the wee hours, however it's really not good for my relationship or 'normal' life. I'm always chasing the time slots too so my hours move around depending on what times are good for me or if I'm trying to work out the good times. Right now for eg I'm putting in loads of hours on mfc to find the right hours. The last 3 nights I've been on anywhere between 1am and 11am the following morning gmt.

Oh how I wish I could just do days but a) I don't make as much money during the day (although now I'm splitting multiple sites I could re-test this), and b) right now I can't get up in the daytimes, I just can't force myself to lol.

I am in the same boat here

I cam for years doing night shifts (i prefer them) but then i cant sleep in the morning easily cause of either too much noise in my building, too much noise from the busy street outside, drilling machines in my building (people renovate and make noise here all the times especially during the summer).

If i am stressed & have a lot to deal with on my plate i seem to not be able to 'switch off' my brain and find sleep/rest then it all messes up, i loose the ability to rest/ work efficiently.

I even tried sleep pills few days ago so i can get some sleep still but i woke up all dizzy and fuzzy that i was not able to think straight & see the obvious if u know what i mean, downloaded the wrong file for verysoft LOL.

If i try to cam day time here i have another problem, people knocking on my door always (two nosy neighbors who know i am at home DUH!) or the mail woman who comes sometimes with papers i need to sign for.
I rather open the door to these people while sleepy than all dressed for cam u know, it happened a few times to need to undress quickly, take make up off and open the door cause it was an important issue, soo stressy).

I try to adjust my camming hrs to SM 'ways of working' as a site traffic wise (it's always very busy and glitchy when i cam during the night here in my time zone) while it works better for me during the mornings after son is out for work but then i have the 'knock on the door' issue, i also need to adjust my camming hrs/ sleep to my son schedule too, i prefer to cam when he is not home as in the night i might disturb his sleep when i talk on camera.

It's a total mess in my case LOL, i cant seem to find my ways with these all either.
Guess i'm going to go buy some melatonin myself from pharmacy cause the other pill was way too strong for me and i took only half of it each time last week, took 1.5 pills in total to deal with my insomnia during the stress i had to put up when upgrading pc & troubleshooting system, sites, etc.

Once all got sorted i was able to find sleep naturally.

Just now while typing i hear a noisy drilling machine right on the wall of my apartment, the wall i share with my neighbor, luckily i just got up otherwise i would have had jumped from bed from this damn noise OMG HAHA.

I wanna live in the woods sometimes, i kid u not haha!!

Just think about what you did when things were working well. Ie. If I'm up at 6am and I cam at 8 work a few hours take a lunch break then work a few more hours take a break then log off. Then I'm up for a few hours then I lay in bed and read until I fall asleep. There's no way you're going to get done camming and just fall into bed. You need to eat, take makeup off , have some 'you' time to do thing s you need to do. To try to force yourself to fall asleep 1/2 an hour after a shift is going to stress you out. When I used to do nights I was asleep at 6am also. It's normal. I WISH I could do nights again. I bet the $ is better. But I'm stuck on the dayshift.

I work two different websites. The first is more private show based so I usually look like crap after I've finished up, which means I do need the break in between to get dinner and to re-do myself. I'm also prone to dry eyes so I need to take my lenses off in-between to give my eyes a break, 8 hours is just too long for me to stare at the screen in the one go. I definitely agree that your brain does need time to wind down, but three - four hours is just throwing my schedule off totally xx

Yeah, trying to be asleep within 30 mins of stopping a cam shift is a big thing to demand of your body. Even if you're tired after your shift, you're going to need to wind down. A rest and bedtime routine of at least 1.5-2 hrs is much more realistic, imo.

I have to rule my sleep schedule with an iron fist because of disability; anything other than 8 hours *within the same consistent window each day* can leave me incapacitated for several days. My inner teenager is cranky as fuck about this monastic discipline, but the consequences of messing up are painful and expensive. If I don't feel sleepy at sleep time, my nuclear option is going on YouTube and finding a lecture in physics or advanced maths from, say, MIT, and trying very hard to pay attention to it. 15 minutes of this - and I'm off

Your body is, hopefully, less sensitive to the slightest shift in schedule, but I bet you would feel much better if you allowed yourself a nice long wind-down routine that ended with lights-off at about the same time each night. Even if it's 4 or 5 am.

My family are prone to addiction. I know addiction isn't hereditary, but I never want to tempt fate so I never take anything for anything unless it's natural. It's funny how someone mentioned booze because a few bottles of beers does totally knock me out, but it's obviously not ideal or a long term fix, haha.

Acht I know the money is so good! I recently tried to move my late shift to early night for a fortnight, but I wasn't making squat. xx

I'm a poor sleeper due to medication. While trying to find a way to get some ZZZ's I found out about diffrent types of sleep cycles. Here is a link to the wikki page about it. Maybe one would work for you rather than straight 8 hours of sleep. 8 hours for me leaves me still sleepy, I do the 6 hours sleep then a nap later on.

That actually might be more ideal for me because it's not even as if I'm not getting the 8 hours. I'm getting the hours in but I still feel shattered. I'm going to try this xxx

Oh my sleep is so fucked right now,I also work and prefer night shift but I hate sleeping at 10-11 am because then I don't get to see the daylight and because I need 8 hours I don't get to do much before work.My problem is that I can not sleep right after work and I find myself awake for another 4 hours or longer.Which sucks.I wish I could fall asleep faster.
I took off last weekend to try and fix my sleep schedule but didn't go well,I now sleep weird hours and I wake up often so I end up being very tired.
I tried valerian,it puts me to sleep in an hour or two but gives me nightmares(weird).
I read before about melatonin, and I just bought some pure melatonin, will try it out this morning, after my shift.

Mine used to be fucked. I would sleep 3am - 7am and again 2pm - 5pm and that was my life. Now I have insomnia and I have to be really rigid so im in bed between 11pm-midnight and up at 7am-8am. Every day.

My work has suffered as I liked working the night shift, but its for my health so I do it. It's nice having a routine

    xx

Did I read that right? Are You camming 8 hours total a day?
Because if You are, there's your problem right there.
I used to cam at LEAST 8 hrs, and oftentimes 10 hrs several days per week.
I felt like I could never shut off my brain/ mind, etc.
    I second using Melatonin.
Bedphones.com makes a great product, to help with sleeping. ( id link it but im on my tablet).

I used to have fucked up insomnia. Massive. Kind of do again recently but that's for other reasons.

Some things that can help with sleep:

    1. Learning to meditate... helps to shut out the chatter and agitated brain feeling even if you don't get very far.

    2. 5-HTP, as an alternative to melatonin or whatever. Melatonin never worked for me but 5-HTP does. It's a precursor to serotonin in the brain, makes you feel kind of fuzzy and relaxed, doesn't leave any grogginess the day after. Don't take more than advised, you'll get very sick. Shouldn't be combined with antidepressants or psych meds either. HOWEVER - if these things are taken into account it's very useful. Good for combating anxiety too.

These days I've been waking up at 3PM, working from 1AM-5AM, then sleeping from 6-7AM, which I know is a weird ass schedule. I feel like I should feel bad about it being so weird and fucked up but actually I'm doing great - I feel like I get way more done in the "normal" part of my life than I did when I dragged myself out of bed before noon and worked from around 8PM. I make more money too... well, I don't know, I just think way more clearly at night. It's just tricky to do things like... go to the bank... or visit a doctor.

If you struggle to turn your brain off, may I ask, do you cam from the room you sleep in? If so, change that immediately.

I've struggled with a sleep disorder my whole adult life and I take medication, practice sleep hygiene, use aromatherapy, have a bedtime routine, the works. All of those things in conjunction help me lead a somewhat normal sleep/wake cycle, but since I started taking magnesium I sleep like a normal person. Like, go to sleep at 12-1 AM and wake up between 7 and 9 AM.

Trust me when I say I tried for YEARS to wrest this level of control because my condition is permanent with very little that can be done about it. I tried every medication, OTC and otherwise that I found carried acceptable risk. All kind of non-pharmalogical options like light therapy, aromatherapy, wearing amber glasses every night, guided hypnosis... in an attempt to wrest control I found lavender oil, magnesium citrate supplements, blue light filtration at night, routine, and discipline are the most effective remedies for retaining control over your sleep cycle.

Not sure if this was mentioned already, but have you tried kava tea or valerian as a sleep aid?

Magnesium oil! It's so much easier to absorb than any other kind. I use the Ancient Minerals spray just before I go to sleep. I never get insomnia anymore.
