Mind Blowing A detective wants to be my ...friend.

Yep you read that right. My neighbor is a police detective & he's been flirting with me. He's divorced & is super handsome. He even looks younger than me.

I don't know what to say when I finally have a chance to get to know him. The club I work at has a really horrendous reputation around here so the second I mention any affiliation with it, it will seem bad to him. On the up side he knows nothing about me really so I can start working on a plausible story lol.

I obviously want to keep on good terms with this neighbor for many, many reasons.

(BTW totally by co-incidence I ran into an old friend from around here who is a retired cop....So I'm certain that it's smarter for me to appear squeaky clean. Most cops apparently have narrow thinking when it comes to sexuality and women.)

So if he's a detective he has access to a plethora of databases and he can run your name at any time. If you file taxes, it's possible he can uncover that. My uncle is a detective and I heard through the grape vine that this was one of the main reasons I was outed to my family.

Ughhh yeah. Related note, years ago when I signed a lease with a particular rental agency, they pulled up a database that had way more info on it about me than anything I'd ever seen before. I'm guessing this might be what you mentioned.

Lucky for me I filed last year.

On a stupidly comic note, he has either a room mate or a friend who is over a lot & this particular guy waves at me a lot, most probably out of curiosity. This same guy made a joke about the amount of people who live in this house (it's a split level with 2 renters in the basement) so I realize we're being subjected to the usual nosy-cop observations.

A few days ago there were uniformed cops shooting the breeze with Detective on his front porch (yeah they waved too.) I'm just reallllly lucky I have a clean record & enough time to cook up a story about my life that's not going to lead to some awkward moments.

I'd wave & be in & out of there (when you're coming/going)..just polite but DISTANT & very busy. Good luck. If they/he tries to approach, get a 'sudden important phone call', or you could just keep phone to your ear.

Ehh, I would just let it go. Yeah he seems nice and is attractive, but he lives a lifestyle that is radically different from yours. Plus he is divorced and that usually is never a good sign. Even if you were to just have a casual sexual relationship, what if it turns sour? what if he were to catch feelings or find out what you do and then become angry about it? then it would be super awkward having to live next to him (not to mention it could potentially turn ugly).

I never get too chummy with my neighbors. Its nothing personal, I'm just not interested in making friends with people. Especially if I have to live next to them!

I went on a couple dates with a cop, who knew I was a stripper. Nothing bad ever came of it. He actually turned out to be creepishly into it. o_O

That said, I didn't give him any reason to out me, and we never got close. And I guess the fact that this guy is your neighbor is a pretty huge difference!

But I wouldn't overthink it. If you feel better avoiding him, then trust your instincts. But he can't read your mind/know your job history just by talking to you, and if you don't give him a reason to do serious detective work on you, you'll most likely be fine.

Naw haven't seen him for a couple days. The workload for police increases during warmer weather months so I assume work is keeping him busy.

Yep! When I was dealing with identity theft, the personal investigator was able to do stuff like this. He did it with me over the phone for the guy using my social for decades and mentioned his previous employers (one being a pool cleaner which was probably a 1099 job) that I already had record of but didn't reveal.

Update- 2 interesting developments, both positive-

    * An acquaintance of a relative of mine knows this Detective. She doesn't like him- considers him stuck up, arrogant & unlikeable.

    * I've been seeing a woman sitting on the Detective's front porch smoking cigarettes for days now. (I imagine it's his ex-wife or a girlfriend.) This guy has kids so it might be a babysitter too.

My point of sharing this is I do have true empathy for good cops BUT from personal experience I also know many cops aren't very good at maintaining family life/relationships.

I'll be working out of state soon so I can stop tripping out over this. I just thought it was funny. What are the odds.
