    Default Flamenco Clothing

I'm taking flamenco classes shortly and couldn't be more excited! Secretly, I'm most excited to wear the clothing, but I don't know where to start. My instructor should be able to point me in the right direction, but on the off chance that he can't, have any of you ordered a flamenco dress over the internet? I am the right shape for them so I'm not worried about it being ill fitted assuming its stretchy. I don't know if it's traditionally made with stretchy material. I did a DNA test and it had significant Spanish and North African ancestry, which is what started my fascination with flamenco.

Has as anyone taken flamenco before and can help out with the costuming part?

    Hey Velveteen.Rabbit,
I took a ballroom dance class and it was great. We had a flamenco and fandango night every tuesday. Anyways, I brought my flamenco dress from Flamenco closet creations.

I was going to say, I see a fair amt of flamenco fashion influence (check out Marc Jacobs) &, if you don't want to sew, you may be able to find something knockoff..

Omg the Dolce and Gabbana collection from a few years ago was so flamenco-inspired and beautiful! That whole collection makes me want to cry lol! I'd have to have any designer piece tailored. The only thing that has ever fit perfectly was a vintage Christian Dior suit I got for cheap thrifting. Everything else fits hourglass shapes really weird because it's designed for a long, slender shape.

I was obsessed with Flamenco dancing, when I lived in L.A.
Used to go to every performance that I could find.
I ended up hiring one of the male dancers for some private lessons.
*Focus also on wearing the right shoes.
Flamenco dancing is very hard on the feet. I had to quit, it was so rough, because i didn't realize that.
    Now i belly dance.
Have fun! Its a very exciting dance form.

It's so hard here in LA to find classes! Strange considering majority of this city is Latin based. I haven't even gotten to shoes yet. Maybe I should email him in advance.

Exactly why I just went ahead and hired one if the male dancers from the performance to teach me.
I think Flamenco dance is from Spain. This would make sense as to why there aren't any classes for it in LA.
Most Latinos are either Mexican, or from central America, etc.

Yeah it's Spanish but has Berber (African) and al-Andalusian roots, which is a large chunk of my ethnic background. It has been in Spain forever though

Also has a lot of gypsy influence as well. It's very sexy, but my favorite is the old school style. Carmen Amaya...

3 scenes. I love her in pants because she gets all into it and her hair goes flying. She goes in at 7:35.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Spain was the meeting point for a lot of cultures that fused together to create Spanish culture. Berber (indigenous African), al-Andalusian (middle eastern/Arab) as well as gypsy all had major influence there. Gypsies originated in Rajasthan, India which I also had on my DNA test so im pretty sure that's a thing. I guess many people don't know that Romani people are originally of East Indian decent but mixed with various other races/ethnicities along the way. It's weird that the world pretends that no group was nomadic before Columbus. And all of this is reflected in Spain's ancient history. I'm surprised the U.S. skips majority of Spanish/Iberian history in school because the Iberians were pirates that mated in quite a lot of regions. I should join a history forum lol

^^ American history classes generally suck at giving any in-depth POV unless the teacher has a particular passion about it. I don't think many folks here in America really know about gypsy culture other than those exploitation reality tv shows about the Irish gypsies. I'm a history nerd too and I remember learning (on my own) about the history of the Gypsies. It's interesting because I can see the influence, even in the in the hand movements. Indian dance heavily incorporates specific hand movements and the Flamenco dancers hand movements with the castanets resembles it. *Also in belly dance too.
