    Default Working hours

I'm just considering getting into stripping, and am curious as to whether any / many clubs allow you to work part time / casual hours? I would not want to work for more than 3-5 hours at a time, for instance.

Are there set shifts set down ahead of time or can I wake up, decide I want to do some work and turn up?

Also, does anyone only work in the day? Is this even a possibility?

It depends entirely on what the norm is for your area. In Phoenix, for example, clubs tend to be very free form when it comes to scheduling. Show up whenever you want, or don't. I've had days where I decided at the literal last second (like, my hand is on the door handle to the club) to not go in that day, and vice versa. I didn't need to call anyone or notify anyone but myself. In Portland, though, they want you to have a schedule of the days and shifts you'll work for the week, usually with a minimum number of days/hours. In Phoenix, you could work for a few minutes or you could work for open to close. Clubs generally did not care as long as you paid your house fee. In Albuquerque, the club I worked at had shift minimums. So, you could go in whenever you wanted, but once you checked in, you had to stay for at least 5 hours. In Amarillo, the club wanted to have at least X number of girls on the floor. So you had a shift minimum PLUS you couldn't leave until someone came in to replace you so there would still be the minimum of X number of girls working after you left. In Dallas, there are set shifts, and some clubs want you to schedule your week out in advance where others don't care. In any case, the clubs don't generally allow you to leave for a lunch break/power nap/whatever reason and then come back to work some more. Once you leave the club, you can't work again until the next day. This is another situation where Phoenix generally didn't care -- as long as you paid your house fee, people really did not tend to care, lol. Some clubs did, but not all. So in addition to depending on your area, it also depends on your club.

You can probably find some information about your area/specific clubs in your area by searching around. Or, if you feel comfortable, you could let us know and someone here might be able to give you some current information about the area you're looking at dancing in.

For me, I prefer day shift. When I first started, I couldn't fathom why anyone would choose to work day shift when everyone knows the party happens at night, so day shift must be hella dead. Generally, 9.9/10 times, day shift will be slooooooooow compared to night. But the clientele is also (typically) very different. Instead of getting people out for a party, you have workers and businessmen coming in for their lunch break. Day shift is when I sell more VIP/Champagne Rooms, hands down. It's generally quieter, which allows for the longer hustles for the bigger money. Depending on your area, the guys also tend to be a little more relaxed and respectful. The downside is that it's hit or miss when it comes to selling lap dances, and stage tips are small to nonexistent compared to night.

Night time is generally easier when it comes to selling lapdances and getting tipped on stage. Guys are more apt to be drunk and loud and obnoxious, though, and the crowd in general might be a little rougher in the grabby department. Again, depending on your area. (EDIT: I've worked in some clubs where day shift was a *lot* more grabby than night shift, so this is really a "ymmv" issue. Every club is going to be different.)

I would suggest night time to start with, because it's generally easier to make money if you don't quite know how to hustle yet. Your odds of walking by someone and getting flagged down are a lot higher. Once you feel comfortable talking to customers and selling lapdances/selling VIP rooms, you might give day shift a try, just to see if you like it. It's definitely a matter of personal preference. Some girls make bank at night and shit all during the day, and some struggle with night shift and excel at day shift. It all depends on the kind of hustle you prefer at a given point in time and the type of customers you feel best selling to/you have the most success with. It'll probably change a few times over the course of your career, so don't write one off entirely after one attempt -- different clubs will have different atmospheres for their day/night shifts, too.

Thank you so much for such an insightful post, candy!

I'm actually in Australia on the Gold Coast and there are a bunch of clubs all on the same street (kind of like a mini Vegas style place I guess). I've found it hard to get much information about working at any of the clubs or how to even audition. There seem to be several companies that act as agents for girls wanting to do this work, but that also do waitressing and bucks nights, etc. I just want to know how to get into the clubs, not be managed by agents!

I know nothing about dancing/auditioning in Australia, but in the states, the procedure is more or less standard. Walk in wearing your street clothes, but take care to look nice. Hair and make up done, all that stuff. Bring a bag with a dance outfit and your shoes in case they ask you to dance on stage as part of your audition. A good idea is to call ahead and ask when a good time to audition would be. Some clubs don't audition on certain days or at certain hours, so you can save time by calling ahead to be sure. While on the phone, you can also ask what the audition process is like for that particular club, just so you have an idea what to expect when you walk in. (EDIT: You can ask on this call if you need to be with an agency or if you can walk in on your own, and also if you'll need to bring anything specific like licensing paperwork from the city, specific forms of ID, etc.)

Typically (again, over here in the states, at least,) after you audition and get hired, you'll go back to the office/dressing room/off to the side with the manager, and he'll explain how things work at that particular club. This'll include information on whether or not they want you to have a schedule, if they have shift minimums, how house fees and tip out work (if applicable), etc. This would be the time to ask about things like if you'll be able to leave and come back, if you can work on a whim or if you need to be scheduled, what the rules on touching are, all that good stuff. After you guys talk things over and everyone's on the same page on how the club works, you sign the contract and start working. Some areas require you to be registered/licensed with the city before you can work, so in those cases, they might want you to have your paperwork from the city in order before you sign the hiring paperwork with them, but if that's the case, they'll typically walk you through it and tell you where to go and what to do.
