Default I do not know what I was thinking

I did not pay property taxes on time this year and now I feel like I am ruining my credit report. It was due on March 1st and I wont be able to fully pay it until mid April. I dont want to do a rush decision to come up with money either (sell my gold) but my credit report is prettt important.

Right now is the time they are sorting it all out so if I pay quickly enough before they are done calculating it out... I think Ill be okay (but thats only if dont send it to collections before i pay it off).

On the internet, it says July is when theyll send a notice to all those who owe.

Im going to call the county tomorrow to see if my fear will be realize...

    What do you say?

My mom is the _last_ person you probably want to copy financially, but, at least in WA, you can go three years without paying a dime before collections will come around. Life happens sometimes. Emergencies come up. If you can't pay it all right now, gather together what you can and open a line of communication. Ask if you can divide the payment into two parts this year. Explain that money is really tight for you right now, so you can't afford the entire amount, but you can afford $___. Chances are good they'll be willing to work with you. If they can't accept partial payments, they'll probably put a note on your account saying you at least contacted them on X date and promised to pay by Y date/explained the situation/somehow got in contact before they were forced to hunt you down. Offering to pay what you can now will also set a good tone. Your credit might take a little bit of a ding just because you've already missed the due date, but if you keep up on everything else, you should bounce back from it in no time.

In Virginia we pay property taxes twice a year. Lol I NEVER pay the first round. I always wait and pay the whole bill at once. Never ever been reported to collections. You're fine.

Because in most cases using a collection agency involves losing a significant amount of the receivable, almost no one does until a receivable is over 30 days delinquent. Also, a government agency will handle this like they do everything else; slowly. You're probably good for 90 days, and you should call and see if there are any extension request forms.

Unlikely it would be on a credit report unless there is a tax suit.

Now that many states are using private collection agencies, that is literally the first thing they do.

down here they put a lien on the house if you were to wanna sell and owe multiple years, but i don't think this is a case for the collection agency.
