    Default Cure for dry scalp?

I have had a flaky dry scalp for about a year now and it is driving me crazy. I think it may be the water here as my OH gets it too. We have tried dandruff shampoos and they don't work, I even moisturise my head lol but of course that makes my hairline all greasy. Any suggestions? x

You could try putting a filter on your shower. I got one when in my previous flat and I think I saw a difference. They were out of stock when I went to re order but you've reminded me I need to get another one...It was from Aquatiere, I will find the name of the one I tried and post later.

I believe it used vitamin C to neutralize chlorine, and a 'ceramet' filter to reduce scale etc. There was definitely less scale on the shower area after installing it. London water is so hard!

Well its either fungal or product buildup or both.

Tea Tree Oil. Mix a few drops in with your shampoo (in your hand) and conditioner. Some people pour it directly into the bottles but I prefer to put the shampoo or conditioner in my hand then mix in the tea tree oil then rub it into your scalp. I do this every single time I shower now for years and it is a hell of a difference.

Awesome thanks ladies. I'm going to mix tea tree oil into some olive oil and use as a head mask i think. I also heard zinc deficiency can cause it so i got some zinc capsules x

Are you sure it's not psoriasis or eczema? You should go to a derm, but feel free to decline their pricey treatments because there is no real cure

That sounds like a good idea but seriously try what I told you. It's worked wonders for me and others PLUS it feels good!

I use African Pride brand Braid Spray it's like 3.99 @ Sally's. It has tea tree, aloe, & herbs. It's very refreshing
There's Christophe brand salt/olive oil scrub or u could make it?
Also, Ulta sells a sugar scrub line by Biolage

If your scalp itches, and white crud vets under your nails when you scratch, it's buildup. I get this, despite hardly ever using styling products. It's probably related to only washing my hair once a week and scimping on shampoo. Mix together some brown sugar, and almond meal/quick oats/corn meal (not flour). Next time you wash your hair, shampoo as normal, then mix a bit of conditioner with the sugar mixture, and massage into your scalp for five minutes. Rinse well, and condition and style as normal.
I need to do this every few weeks.

Make sure you are not having any allergies / irritations first.

What I use to give my hair and scalp a boost is coconut oil. Not actual oil, but the spreadable jars you can now buy everywhere.
They are originally to cook, but are amazing on your hair, scalp, lips and skin.

I used expensive nightcreme with an elixer before, now I just put on coconut oil before I go to bed an it is amazing.
    Meanwhile in my room:

Sea Salt rubbed on a dry scalp and properly shampooed after best thing ever if it's just dry scalp if it's dandruff or a scalp fungus or wet psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis then you need to go to a dermatologist and get a prescription for a medicated shampoo such as Nizoral

Have you tried 100% aloe (no alcohol)? I find it very soothing But yea, that Christope product is simply sea salt & olive oil, which of course you can mix up yourself
