Default personal trainer at the gym

so i go to the gym a couple times a week, there is a cute personal trainer there who made small talk with me.. he asked if i was here to work out lol. which i think is an excuse to talk to me since why else would i be at the gym..

should i come on to him.. and also get free training sessions?
only when men and women are equal, will the whore be extinct. #equalpay #freethenipple

IMO trying to get free sessions will be insulting to him. I would think free sessions is the equivalent to free dances.

It is probably part of his sales pitch.

Maybe he is referring to the level of activity observed?

Idk, but I'm very interested in this thread..where I used to live, they built a huge new gym, it was near a mall I went to..in the lobby of the mall this super hot trainer was trying to sell memberships, I chatted w/him a bit.
Every other time I went bk there tho, I didn't see him anymore.

As a fitness professional who has been in the industry for 20+ years -

I've observed trainers (primarily the male ones) flirting as a form of sales pitch. And asking for free sessions is very rude and a someone else said that would be akin to asking for free dances.

Flirt if you're interested but usually male trainers use flirting to gain female clients. Don't expect free anything.

Some gyms offer discounts if you buy say a 3 month training package. But like others mentioned nothing in life is free - unless you're willing to give "special favors" to the boss.

Yup. I get spammed by an trainer on fb constantly. Sales pitching is their primary workout to promote their services.

I'm new here and have a question of my own to ask later, but I saw your question and figured I could contribute my perspective as a guy who goes to the gym regularly.

Personal trainers will approach you because they need clients, and as some have already said, if the guy is good-looking and charming then he's going to get more female clients and probably more male clients too. There are PLENTY of women who would like nothing more than to have an attractive trainer at the gym to keep them motivated to keep going.

See if he is noticeably more nervous around you then he is around others. See if he seems a bit more focused on how you feel about him as a person as opposed to a trainer. In other words, is he acting like he would if he was just trying to make a sale (asking about your workout goals, workout experience, etc.) or is he also sharing things about himself that have nothing to do with exercise (i.e. what music he likes, where he likes to go to hang out, his hobbies, his goals).

In sales it's normal to try to appeal to sameness (i.e. "Really? I like that too"), but you can usually tell if someone is trying to steer the conversation away from the sale and towards more personal stuff. If a guy likes you, no matter how confident he is, he will show signs of nervousness around you because he will be concerned about how you perceive him as a person.

So if you think he's acting more personal than professional, try chatting him up and see if he takes things to the next step. You can tell him that you aren't sure if you want personal training yet but then ask him about himself, for example. He will probably be polite and tell you about himself, but if he seems really engaged in the conversation knowing that you aren't looking for training at the time, then he probably is more interested in you on a personal level than on a professional.

    Hope this helps.
