Default Actresses with that "special" je ne sais quou!

I'm a huge old movie fan. Most of the movies I like are from the 30s to the 50s. And many foreign movies in the 50s through the 80s. Some of my favorite actresses aren't always the best actresses or the most beautiful but they certainly had that special quality known as je ne sais quoi. I will list some of favorite. And I hope others will list their favorites. Some of my faves are: Audrey Hepburn, Claire Trevor, Anna Mangnani, Catherine Deneuve, Linda Darnell, Brigitte Bardot, Marilyn Monroe, Emmanuelle Beart, Ann Sheridan, Judy Garland, Ida Lupino, Guilietta Messina, Una Merkel, Elizabeth Taylor, Ingrid Bergmann, Rita Hayworth, Gloria Grahaeme, Susan Hayward and Julie Christie. Some of them are not known to audiences today.

Okay, I will bite as well. My favorite actresses are from exploitation films of 1960s to 1980s. In addition, I enjoy silent film stars as well.

Here are some my favorites from the 60s to 80s:

Marlene Clark,Pam Grier, Julissa , Barbara Steele, Naomi Tani, Sybil Danning (Who is my facebook friend),Raquel Welch, Elvira, Claudia Jennings ( She was a hot redhead), and Chelo Alonso.

    My favorite silent film stars:

Marlene Dietrich, Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo,

Screen Goddesses who lifestyle I adore:

Francine Everett: She play so many upper class African American socialite characters that she became one in real life. She ended her days as a film historian

Theresa Harris: Always played " The Beautiful Maid" in 1930s to 1950s but she married a doctor and was an successful investor. Also she was one of the prettiest black actresses of all time.

Theda Bara: The ultimate vamp became a wealthy socialite and married a hot doctor.

Maria Felix : Became one of Mexico's greatest actresses and one of the best sugar babies ever to live.

I nominate Kristin Scott Thomas. Classy, compelling, and not very nice in her films.

I also like Pam Grier, Sybill Danning, Greta Garbo, Raquel Welch, Maria Felix and Theresa Harris and really all of the actresses you listed. There are so many actresses from older movies that I enjoy watching. The actresses that I listed were just the first that came to mind. And I haven't made a list of the men yet. There were so many that I like. Except for most of the mens bodies. I prefer men who are at least toned. And many men back then never worked out. So when they take their shirts off in scenes its a big disappointment. Thanks for the responses.

Yes! I've always liked her too. Unfortunately, I think the last movie I saw her in was, The English Patient. And that was a long time ago.

Carla Gugino doesn't get nearly enough credit.

    Ava Gardner, my namesake.

Heddy Lamar invented spread spectrum and frequency hopping that's used in WiFi and Bluetooth. Very cool.

Sharon Tate-she had an incredible kindness that shone through. Naturally overlooked due to her stunning face/body

Amanda Plummer- just incredible. Very intense.

Reese Witherspoon- her early performances are what could be titled "child acting prodigy".

    Pam Grier- Mother Of God.

These women can run circles around the new and old timey actresses. Gorgeous women that can do method acting.

I agree. Everytime i see her as a support actress I think what the hell is going on? Why isn't she staring in her own films?

I know I saw her in something years ago and I really liked her. But I'd have to look it up in IMDB to figure out what it was.

Wow! So you were named for Ava Gardner? She had a very uniquely beautiful face. And Hedy Lamar was gorgeous.

And Donadiabla, that's very exciting to be a Facebook friend of an actress you admire. I used to dabble in acting. Once I did an acting showcase. Afterward, this woman rushed up to me and told me she thought I was amazing. Then she she told me her name is Season Hubley. And I was excited because I watched her in the B movie Vice Squad which I liked so much as a kid. So that was cool.

I like Lillian Gish. I inherited a whole bunch of movie postcards from the 30s. And one of them is Lillian Gish which is exciting.

Sharon Tate was so beautiful. I was shocked to hear yesterday that Leslie Van Houten might be paroled. I never expected that to happen.

Reese Witherspoon was amazing in Freeway from 1996.

I could watch Pam Grier over and over again in Jackie Brown. I must've seen that movie 20 times. She's such a badass. And I love the way she comes out of jail still looking good. And she speaks out of the corner of her mouth. Also, I enjoy the soundtrack for that movie.

Meryl Streep is amazing. She is naturally talented. I think my favorite movie she was in was Sophies Choice. One of the saddest most gut wrenching movies I've ever seen.

Alfre Woodard was amazing in Passion Fish.

Mae West was incredible. Marlena Dietrich sublime. One of my brothers inherited all of her records that my grandmother had.

Tina Louise= I know her personally. A wonderful, classy and beautiful woman.

Then in your second paragraph, I really like all of the contemporary actresses that you listed. Especially, Emily Browning. One of my favorite movies is Sleeping Beauty. She played the lead.

Bérénice Béjo is the female lead in "the artist"; in the other hand, I have a crush on Sara Forestier since I saw her in "Le nom des gens"

Uma Thurman has anyone said her name yet? I love actors that can do the job of a character actor and carry a film as the lead. Typically they aren't always the prettiest but I think are the most talented. You just believe them no matter what they do....Olivia Coleman, Ruth Wilson,Viola Davis. The Fanning sisters got it going on for the younger generation, Dakota & Elle. I will add more later
