Christine Lahti (she is a very well known TV actress- she was a lead on the series "Chicago Hope")
Holly Hunter
Sigourney Weaver

Omg, all of them. I have been obsessed with old Hollywood since I was preschool age. They really knew the art of playing a character, branding without the use of social media, charisma, glamour, and covert sex appeal. These women were all discovered at castings and even restaurants and hotel pools. Think The Ambassador and Coconut Grove. Marilyn Monroe (even though I think she's overrated) was supposedly discovered there. Agents working for major motion picture companies aided these women in their transformations, and most of the credit should go to them. Those were the real pioneers, and more often than not it wasn't the actress herself. I guess the same is true for now, but not as often as back then.
My favorites are: Catherine Deneuve, Pola Negri, Theda Bara, Anna Karina, Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Russell, Diana Dors. I like Priscilla Presley a lot too but it makes me uncomfortable because her entire look from the hair dye and makeup to the clothes were controlled by Elvis. Only Liz and Anna got the credit they deserved and maybe even a little too much. The other ones never received nearly enough credit. I love all of them though. I grew up on reruns of I Love Lucy, Bewitched, and I Dream Of Jeannie. I remember seeing these and being hypnotized. I live in LA now and I swear I can still feel the energy roaming the streets even though priorities and people are so different now.

Veronica Lake, Marilyn Monroe, Tippi Hedren, Barbara Stanwyck, Janet Leigh, Bette Davis, Kim Novak, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, Ursula Andress, Julie Christie, Marisa Tomie, Salma Hayek, Aaliyah, Maria Bello, Deborah-Kara-Unger......to name a few. All of them had/have - something special you couldn't quite define.
