Default Go to bed on time challenge.

Does anyone want to do a challenge with me?

I really want to start going to bed at the same time every night but I have a lot of difficulties with it. I suffer from insomnia so it is hard to force myself to go to bed if I know I will not fall asleep soon after hitting the sheets. The funny thing is I always feel sleepy, yet I do not fall asleep at night. I always end up falling asleep during the daytime. I am not sure why.

Sleeping pills work for a little bit for me, but I always have to keep on switching brands because it is like my body becomes used to the pills and they stop working. I am going to try to listen to binary beats at night to see if that helps.

Does anyone want to do this with me, try to go to bed at the same exact time every night? I feel like my day to day life will be much more organized this way lol. Obviously, we all go to bed at different times, so I do not feel there is a point in setting the same time for everyone to go to bed at night, but whatever would be the ideal time for you.

Who wants to try this with me?

    Me.

I had insomnia for months because I was going through withdrawal symptoms and mild depression.

I got St. John's wort and melatonin (which I barely have to use anymore). But I notice doing things like winding down in the evening - turning off electronics, drinking warm tea, and even hypnosis helps. So I'm back on track but I'll stay in the thread for the challenge in case my body slips back to wanting to stay up all night.

Tried going to bed on time for 2 nights in a row, but ended up lying wide awake in bed until like 2 in the morning. :/

So far not going well, but hopefully I can find something that will help me fall asleep and stay asleep lol. Sick of wasting so much time just lying there waiting to go to sleep.

I'm here for it. My body naturally doesn't want to settle down until 3am. But I can't sleep in past 6-7 either, so I definitely need to make a schedule change.

Do sleep aids have the exact opposite effect on anyone else? Nyquil keeps me awake all night, and prescription meds like Ambien and trazodone were like drinking a six pack of Red Bull.

I'm in for this, I've been wanting to become an early riser and plus I'm gonna be starting yoga and their classes are hella early. I'm going to start off being in bed by midnight and after a little while I'll make it earlier.

Yeah after your body gets used to them they no longer work effectively. The antihistamine in NyQuil seems to get a tolerance quickly. Basically have to use that one sparingly for it to have sedative effect.

I'm not a fan of antihistamines if I don't have allergy symptoms etc so I use melatonin but that too can become less effective once tolerance kicks in. Sometimes I may need to take two (instead of recommended one 5mg capsule) but for most part i use it sparingly now.

I'd find my problem is remembering to "wind down" in the evening. Like the bedtime rituals we'd do for kids we should probably do for ourselves too. Soft music, soft or no lights, no electronics, warm bath, etc.

I can't speak for those meds, but for those who have seasonal allergies, antihistimines (Benedryl or equivalent, not the newer non-drowsy kind) can help if taken near bed time. It's been said that milk and cookies have the same kind of effect as melatonin. (Milk and cereal can too.) Meanwhile, I'll try to get off the computer earlier, and get to/wrap up club visits earlier.

Maybe you are just a 'nocturnal' person (as scientific studies indicate do exist), in which case why fight it? Though if you have a 'Day Job or small kids I could see the need.

I just sleep when I am tired, & it works great for me. Though things like dentist appointments etc can be a pain in the ass.

I went to bed at around 12:15 the last 2 days, a lot earlier than normal.

My goal has been to go to bed by 11 and wake up around 8. Is going fairly well so far.

This link might help solve your insomnia.

    https://www.grc.com/health/sleep/hea...ep_formula.htm

I've had mixed results with sleep but I can say that I do feel a nice sense of calm. Also , my mixed results might be related to the quality of the products that I've purchased locally.

    Good Luck and Happy Sleep

My personal favorites are listening to rain storms on Youtube, listening to Tibetan Bowls on Youtube, or playing a soothing game like solitaire until I fall off. I'm at the beach now so I leave my door open and let the waves knock me out. This week I've been falling asleep to Prince but that's another story entirely.

Not sleeping pills for me, but I notice that caffeinated drinks make me very sleepy. Sleeping aids just stop having an effect on me after a little bit.

I'd love something like this, but I can't justify the expense right now.

F.lux is a neat program that mimics that light, but on your computer. And it's free, so it might be at least something to help a little in the meantime until you can get the actual light.

Edit: It's primative as everything, but the best sleep I've gotten/fastest I've ever consistently fallen asleep was when I was in an apartment that didn't have ceiling lights in the bedrooms, and I didn't want to drop money on a lamp for what I saw as a super temporary situation (6 months, followed by a road trip) so I used candles for light once the daylight faded. It was bright enough for me to do some things by, and I had a small reading light to read by. But once it got dark outside, it was pretty much dark inside, except for the 3-4 candles I'd have going around the room. It was really relaxing. Electric light is much more convenient and definitely easier on the eyes, especially when it comes to reading, but that's probably why candle light worked so well -- it forced me to slow down and not do certain things all night/have pretty much every "day time" activity available 24/7 so I could always be doing something entertaining and interesting. Even now, if I want to just wind down after an intense day, I'll turn off the electric lights and opt for some candles.

Sleeping pills are a big mistake, they alter your regular sleep patterns and almost all have a rebound effect. I hate to say it but you have to take time to wind down while avoiding a lot of TV and Internet activity. Damn blue light take its toll on your sleep like Candycups said. Alcohol, drugs and caffeine are also no-nos but exercise earlier in the day is great idea. Also, I like white noise when I sleep, no outside sounds to disrupt me. And sex before bedtime is always a great option!

YOU CAN ADJUST IT. It has two settings, and then the top twists to adjust how many airholes are exposed (that makes no sense until you use it).

It's such a basic device, but it's so nice. So nice.
