Thumbs down Salon majorly damaged my hair

So, recently I moved to a new city & got a Japanese straightening treatment at this Korean place. This is probably the 3rd time I've had the treatment done now, but the other two treatments were done at a Chinese place in the city where I lived before. I did not have any problems with my previous treatments.

When I went to this new place, the lady seemed really diligent about asking me questions about my hair, previous treatments I'd had, etc. When I left the salon though, I noticed that there was this patch on the top of my head where the hair felt really brittle. I figured it was something that would go away after I washed my hair, so I didn't worry too much about it. Except that......it didn't go away, and a few days later, my hair started breaking off like crazy in that one spot, about 1/8" from the scalp. Now I have a bald spot on the top of my head!!

I am 100% convinced it's something that lady did wrong during the process, because it's just the one spot. I went back to the salon the other day and showed her, and she acted all surprised and kept insisting that I'm the first person that's ever happened to. She blamed it on my hair type and basically just told me that my hair will grow back. She told me to come back in 6 weeks for a free haircut & some kind of treatment.....but now that I think about it, do I really want to let her touch my hair again?? Whatever she does is not going to make my hair magically reattach to my head.

I would really like to ask for my money back, but I doubt that will happen since she's so adamant about denying any wrongdoing. Plus I paid in cash, so there's not even a record of the original transaction. I'm so mad!!!

I had a similar situation happen to me once, and unfortunately, there's little you can do - especially if it was a cash transaction. If you really wanted to, you could make this a legal case (depending on where you live), but honestly, it's not worth it. My only advice I can give you is to avoid that salon in the future. However, there's always a "quick fix." I personally found that blending an eye shadow similar to my hair color to be helpful; it looked natural enough to where it wasn't noticeable unless you got really close. Another option is getting hair extensions or tracks, but that'd require visiting another salon with an unknown outcome. You could also do them yourself, but if you don't know what you're doing, it'll ruin your hair and look even worse.

If it's really bad, try a wig. Or maybe you could style it in a cute up-do to hide the bald spot. But, really, try the eye shadow thing.

    Hope this helps!

Blast her on yelp with pics. Might not get you a refund but you could save someone else from the same fate.

The eyeshadow idea is amazing! I never thought of that - I'm going to try it!
For the time being, I've just been wearing my hair in a ponytail or half pinned up......so that I can overlap some other sections of my hair to try and cover the bald spot.

Aww. I am so sorry, I would still try & calmly but firmly insist on my $ bk. If she doesn't give $ bk you can file a Better Business Bureau claim, bbb.org online. FUCK THAT, this's a huge pet peeve for me..also, Idk where you live (I believe in US) but every state has licensing board (this wd b cosmetology) you can google & it will tell you how to file a claim w/them. They will send an investigator.
I never had something of this magnitude happen, but believe me I've gotten my $ bk this's happened several X's, even w/an owner doing my hair (like I said, calm persistance, you can bring a calm friend or someone w/you, even better a man wearing a suit) every time cash or no. They know damn well they did your hair, fuck that! I would even try more than once. They just want you to think you have accept this shit, & you do not.
I would NEVER let anyone touch my hair that fucked it up in the 1st place. I don't care what they say/claim wht/ev.
Also, if the shop's a member of chamber of commerce of your town/city you can notify them. Possibly immigration can help you? They should not be doing this to people, they could & still can cause even worse, what happened to you was bad enough
Good luck, try putting pure aloe (no alcohol) try a tiny bit 1st, it's possible that may irritate so go slow..try also some avacado (natural vit e in that) or other gentle oil to soothe it, when you're not wearing the eyeshadow. I use Madison Reed brand from Sephora, it's for root touchup, not sure how it'd work for you, but throwing it out there. Also try African Pride Braid spray, avail @ Sally's, it does contain aloe, herbs that are good for hair/scalp, etc.
Also, one more thing, if you do want to consider legal action, you can join a group legal thing, it's so much a month, & there's attorneys to help you. I used one awhile bk, & I felt it was helpfu/very cost effective for what I neededl, it was for a different type of thing, actually more than 1 thing. Nolo.com is a legal website catering for various topics, & finally, there's free legal clinics you can at least ask a ?. You'd have to do a search online in your area for that too.

Tell her you will file with the BBB unless a refund is immediate and if you think you need more than the treatment, tell her you want a claim against her liability insurance .

Oh yeah, this is another thing that makes me mad. The lady claims to not remember me! I've now been there and dealt with her personally THREE TIMES (once to make the appointment, once for the actual appointment, and once to show her all the damage afterwards), and each time she acts like she's never seen me before! When I came back to show her the damage, she actually asked me who did my hair!! I mean........this place is a random semi-English speaking place in Koreatown, and it's been empty every single time I went. How many white girls do you actually get coming in there? I left her a 25% tip too. Meanwhile......my hair keeps breaking off, and now it's thinning in other areas as well.....so it's getting harder and harder to arrange it to cover that spot up.

I was considering going to a dermatologist. Last time I went it took about a month to get an appointment, so hopefully this time I can get one sooner than that!

I think she's already done that, & they denied even doing her hair.

I'm SO sorry this happened to you!! Honestly, the best thing to do for your hair is to take biotin or other hair growth products to help it grow back out and get stronger & healthier. Eat a healthy diet with lots of protein and fiber, drink lots of water. Lay off heat products for a while, that will just damage your hair even more. and dont color it either! The healthier your hair gets, the better it will become. In the mean time, you can get extensions or wear a wig to hide the bald spot while your hair is growing out.
Would you ever consider shaving your head? I think its a hot look (think of Amber Rose!). You can grow your hair out all over again minus all the damage. As for the hair salon...fuck them! Write every bad review you possibly can, report them to the BBB, etc.
