Default Gown question... Color, Quantity etc.

I haven't danced in a gown club before (and am pretty new to dancing in general and haven't danced in the US at all yet), but I'd at least try and audition at one when I'm in NYC.
I'm a little concerned though they won't hire me, cause I'm not skinny or petite but rather athletic and have a lot of tattoos. But I wanna try anyways.

I would love to go with a white or baby pink gown because these colors are really flattering on me. BUT they get dirty really quick, so I probably need at least one more (I hate the thought of being hired and don't have a backup in case).
But these gowns are so expensive! And if I don't get hired at a gown club, I spent money on two of them.

So better just get one black one? Seems to be the safer option, but somehow boring...
(Plus, my favorite shoes are white).

    What would you do?

I would go with the pink one, and then maybe get a fairly inexpensive black one as a backup if you want/would feel better having it. Black can be boring, but by the same token, it's easy to customize. Do you want to be slutty? Classy? Mysterious? Bad girl? It's all in the attitude and accessories/cut of the gown. Black is easy to work with. If you get a basic black gown, it'll be cheaper and you can use the same dress in/as several different outfits later down the line. If nothing else, you can also use it at home for your own personal fun.

For your audition, go with whatever you think flatters you the most. You can get more outfits later once you get hired and make some money.

Have you considered a deep red dress? It might help offset your tattoos and avoid looking too 'goth' (customers love to label us based on our appearances). I think it'd help you appear to a larger customer base. And it'd go with your white shoes!

Yandy has lots of cheap options when it comes to dresses / gowns! I don't know if you need a floor-length gown, or if you can get away with a shorter club dress or babydoll. But you can browse yandy for options. Even Amazon offers a lot of options, actually. I've also used this site recently with good results: http://www.lingeriediva.com/

Definitely audition in whatever is most flattering on you. Once you've tried a few inexpensive outfits and know what styles work best, I'd suggest investing in a Kamala gown, particularly with your body type. They have the option to make them to your measurements, which are probably different than what the standard box dress companies use.

You can use sparkly accessories (rhinestone bracelets etc, lots at claire's and places like that) to make your simpler starter outfits look much fancier.

I would go with whatever color looks best on you. Even if you get the white dress a bit dirty, in the club lighting you will hardly be able to tell. Good luck !

    Awesome,
    Thanks for your opinions!
Red is out of question, unfortunately, because I have my hair dyed dark red.
Yes, I don't want to look goth, that's why I'm not so about black. Although I figured if I put a lot of rhinestones on it it might help. Plus, I'm pretty tanned.
Ok then, I'll go with baby pink and maybe a backup dress in black.
I'm pretty talented at sewing so if I find the time I just sew my own. That way I also know the dresses will fit.

One more question that came into my mind while browsing the kamala site...
I noticed all the models in the pictures don't wear stripper Heels.
What is it like in gown clubs? Do girls wear them or will I be the only one on 8inchers (or not allowed to wear them)?

I'd aim for clear, higher than 4" (many gown clubs require higher than four inches).

I don't have any lower than 7" lol
I was just wondering because in the pictures girls are wearing "regular" shoes...

It's pretty normal for modeling shoots to use regular heels- and I mean if you're not dancing in them just posing for pics you don't really need stripper shoes. A lot of club promo doesn't even have the models in stripper heels- which they are definitely wearing IN the club

Not many girls wear 8in' heels. I think it's because many of the NYC clubs have lots of stairs.

Yeah, it's my experience that gown clubs go more for the "pageant" look. Slightly lower, clear heels (5"ish), rhinestone jewelry, impeccably straightened or curled hair, less obvious makeup (less sultry/stage-y, more about highlighting natural beauty with contouring and fake lashes)...

Eight inch shoes are fine. Management doesn't care about that. I've seen girls rocking out 8 inch shoes. I prefer 7 myself.
Don't worry about getting your dress dirty. In the club lights, you can't see it. You can always carry one of those on the go stain removers, or club soda on a fabric napkin always works too.

    Good luck.

I love Kamala gowns and got them shipped to Australia when I was working in a gown club. But if you want something cheap you can try yandy.com
