Default I've Been Dancing in Detroit, Do You Think I Can Handle Southern California?

I've been dancing in Detroit for about six months now, still pretty new but I've been making decent money without having to do extras though my dance is extremely high contact with is okay with me. My boyfriend and I are considering moving to LA but I heard LA is pretty tough to dance in... It can't be harder than Detroit though could it?

depends on what you look like and how much you're needing/expecting to make. there are tons of pretty girls and very few good clubs in LA/OC, so they're kinda hard to get hired at. even then it's tough. however, once you get settled in and a bit more experience, you can also drive the 4 hours out to vegas on weekends or during conventions.

From what I've read about Detroit, I think the biggest challenge you'll face will just be the insanely high fees. Be prepared to hand over like $400 to the club on a nightly basis because 40/60 splits are standard here. It's always difficult for me and I imagine if you're used to keeping your money, it'll be even harder.

Wait so the club takes 60% of your money? Is that even legal?

No, it's usually 60% to the dancer. In general, you will keep the larger portion of your money, but I have worked at 50/50 clubs and even a club that took 70%! As for legality... well, it's not strictly illegal, and even if it were, would that stop clubs from doing it?

However, I'm pretty sure we gross more here, or at least I do. My total earnings are often in excess of $1000. So if I'm only keeping $600 or $700 it's not actually that bad.

I always managed to do great In LA & always have my rent & bills paid. Now northern Ca is where its shitty, I've struggled up here hardcore bc the clubs here suck & aren't worth it IMO, which is why i stopped dancing here recently & started doing market research .

I'm not in CA but the club here at one point had high payout / fees which came out to about 50% to the club. I cringe at that amount I think anything over 30-35% is ridiculous. They lowered fees a several months ago so fees back in a reasonable range but before that I felt like I was being pimped by the club.

Good luck in California. I do remember reading threads about the heavy extras there so not sure if that would affect your decision but regardless hope it works out whatever you decide to do.
