    Default Alaska

Has anyone been to Alaska recently? I met the owner of the Great Alaskan Bush Company in Anchorage and she seemed awesome, said I would do well out there. The info I got from the club says you need to stay 3 weeks. I'm hoping that someone else can vouch for Alaska before I commit 3 weeks and all my vacation time from my day job to go out there.

Me too! Also, do they let European girls work there?

My uncle goes to Alaska fishing every year and visits the club as a customer and said it's great (customers perspective of course)

I live in Alaska and have yet to figure out why girls come up here from the Lower 48. Alaskan minimum wage is $9.75/hr. Federal taxes and Alaskan unemployment will be deducted. If you're not American, you will have a hard time getting hired now...particularly Canadians. The US and Canadian border patrol are working together to deport women in this industry. Driving is the cheapest way to get here; however, a single woman with out of state tags will get pulled over to secondary search because they automatically assume you're coming up here to dance. They are not stupid. Do no lie to the Canadian side when they ask what you do. Plane tickets are extremely expensive unless booked well ahead of time. Hotels, taxi, and car rental are a huge expense. Alaska has the highest cost of living in the USA. Steak cuts of beef run $24.99 a pound on sale. ABC no longer has original ownership. Like many clubs of its era, it was surviving on a past reputation. The info on this website concerning Alaska and ABC is horribly outdated. Alaska's economy is boom or bust, and right now, it's BUST. The money to be made will come from fishermen not tourists or oil. You need to be here NOW! And you need to hope the fish come in. Where my friend works, the fish haven't come in yet. No fish, no money. Last year the first run was bad. The second run was good, but by that time, most workers left because they couldn't afford to stand around not getting paid. If you come to Alaska, be very cautious about staying anywhere other than a legitimate hotel. Alaska is the most violent state with just under 40% of women being sexually assaulted each year. Anchorage is the #1 American city for violence against women; Fairbanks is #2. Cabin-jackings are not a figment of Hollywood imagination but a real occurrence happening often enough that it can't be called rare.

Anyone have any updates on how Great Alaskan bush Co is this summer? Thinking about coming end of July or beginning of August. What's the structure like at the club? Thanks !

I have connections to AK & I will say that if you're willing to go where oil/gas drilling is going on...you can make money. The current Presidential admin is going to be good for that industry. OTOH AK is a really rough place compared to other places to travel dance & I don't see the point unless you want to experience Alaska.

I worked Alaska from 2014-2015 and did a working vacation there 2016. Basically all of Alaska is good in the summer. Or if you can dance in Anchorage around the Iditorad (early March) and Fur Rondy (early-mid February), in Fairbanks around Artic Man, and of course follow the fishing seasons. Also my favorite club to make bank in any season but especially and off season is Good Time Charlie's in Soldatna -which will give you tons of tourist money and local money in the fishing season. I also really liked Fantasies in Fifth in Anchorage. Both clubs have wonderful owners but pretend you're not a traveler at Fantasies. Showboat in Fairbanks is good. I would avoid Crazy Horse like the plague -no money because EVERYONE is openly blowing customers in the parking lot and calling it a "smoke break". Awful management too. And a disgusting building, especially in the dancers quarters. Sinrock in Anchorage is the only club that will hire you if you're under 21, but they will ROB YOU BLIND. Management is fine except the house fee is crazy (15-20% depending on the season) plus a 10% tax for being under 21 and then another 10% tax For being a "new girl" but being a new girl can mean you have only worked there for either less than 6 months or less than 1 year depending on their mood.

I'm just going to come out and say this about Alaska- the culture is "hickish" compared to other regions of the states so you're not going to have the same dance experience as you would in a standard Lower 48 city. My boyfriend spent 2 decades in AK & it shows.

Several of my friends have danced there but I have always refused to go. The downsides to me are not worth the trip...

edit to add- you can Google this info, AK has had population shrinkage recently. We've known about it through the grapevine & it's not surprising. Also a lot of oil/gas industry guys go to Vegas to party, flights are cheap & they often have get togethers to get a break from the slope or the woods. IOW the big money of the 80s-90s is no longer a thing in AK

damn, you guys, i guess i dodged a bullet. i was hoping to go to anchorage this summer and dance at the ABC, but it doesn't look like ANYbody has anything decent to say about it. I'm not overly terrified of backwoods weirdos, I'm the type of girl to sleep on the beach and worked plenty (not stripper related) in bad areas of LA, so people don't scare me. It sucks that there's not an opportunity for strippers in alaska really anymore because most of the lower 48 is dead in the summer. But, then again, AK might be trying to keep the money in AK, is what it sounds like. Strong discouragement for traveling strippers.
I've heard its slowing down in the dakotas as well, where all the oil booms were a few years ago, but still money to be made. I guess it comes down to are you willing to take the risk, ignore what other people say, and try it for yourself? I've made many strip trips that I busted or broke even on, so I've found if you're willing to consider it a work vacay, you can't go wrong!

Just gonna update this thread for anyone thinking of dancing or traveling to Alaska and I just have to confirm it’s definitely not good. I’ve been here for two weeks so far for the summer and I’ve honest to god been averaging about $30-$50 a shift I’ve only made over $100 two nights so far. Don’t do it and let it be known that the money that people talk about up here is no longer here.

Thank you I am fine other than my pride and ego. I’m mostly just disappointed and wanted to spread the word because I’m not sure about everyone else but personally for me Alaska was idolized as still being good but that is not the truth. I just don’t want someone else to come up here thinking it’s amazing when it’s not. Dallas or Portland would much better options for the summer.

Glad you mentioned this. Money has been declining for a while up there (in most industries, not just the bar business) so a couple discussions on here have been addressing how girls should be aware of that.

BTW it might still work out for women who are military dependents or girls who want a working vacation there, but for traveling girls who need to make profit, it definitely is not a great idea.

I’m glad to see that realistic images of my state are finally being recognized. Again, I live here, and I have danced here. I posted a while back. I’d like to give any other ladies contemplating AK this summer a huge heads up: DON’T!!! Right now, my state has the most and the largest wildfires in the USA. There’s one club in Fairbanks, three in Anchorage, and one in Soldatna. All three areas have major wildfires bearing down on them with the fire in Fairbanks being the worst. It’s now a FEMA disaster zone, the whole Fairbanks North Star Borough is in a state of emergency, the National Guard has been deployed, and air space has been restricted to fire fighting aircraft. There are now 1000’s of people in various states of evacuation. All of this is resulting in lowered business across the board. Who wants to visit Alaska when all they’ll be breathing is smoke? All of this info is available on inciweb and AKwildfire info. Do your research before coming up here. I love to share my state with people, but right now, an Alaskan vacation wouldn’t be very pleasant.
