    Default Teeth Whitening/Sensitivity/Cavities..

Ok, so my teeth aren't the whitest, I tried the Crest strips (the basic kind) & yow..my teeth are sensitive AF anyway but ugh. So awhile bk, I read a recommendation for Lysterine whitening mouthwash, & I tried it..I also use Sensodyne toothpaste w/whitening. I also have Rembrandt whitening rinse, I haven't used that one in a while
I recently had a dentist visit, & damn if I didn't have 3 freaking (1 dbl one) cavaties, (not large TG) in my front teeth. Now, if you saw all I do, floss w/a special floss holder that helps you get the back teeth, special plastic picks w/a brush end, extra soft tooth brush (supposed to be the best) also flouride rinse every night
I'm wondering if maybe the whitening rinse is making me more likely to have cavaties??
Do you all use any whitening products, if so what are they & do the cause sensitivity? Thanks

well you have to look into yout diet. do you eat too much sugar, even little can cause problems. cleaning teeth actually does not prevent cavities for 100%. if your body lack of vit n minerals you will start to degenerate.

Maybe ask your dentist about professional whitening? It might be safer since it's medical grade but I don't know. I've used crest 3d white for years and have eight fillings because I grind my teeth and haven't had problems but now I'm wondering myself. I'm going to ask the next time I go in.

It sounds like you take good care of your teeth. Are you getting enough calcium in your diet?

Almond and cashew milk have twice as much calcium as dairy milk. Could try that daily. Or calcium rich foods like mentioned above.

Only whiteners that don't make teeth sensitive is power swabs. I haven't tried them but they are marketed to be effective without making teeth feel painfully sensitive.

Sensodyne really helped me with tooth sensitivity, but I see you already tried it. Do you smoke or have you ever smoked? That would definitely affect tooth whitening.

I can't use strips because they hurt so bad. I love the 5 minute whitening gel http://www.amazon.com/Plus-White-Min.../dp/B000RH1TRE because I can put it on with a q-tip so it doesn't touch my gums, get in the shower and then I brush with sensodyne and I haven't had pain. It really helps with coffee stains. When I don't use the 5 min I brush with my normal colgate.

Ok, I just retried the Rembrandt whitening mouthwash, & thought it seemed sensitive enough for me. It's also enamel restoring, & has flouride

I know this answer sucks, but the cavities thing could just be due to genetics. I had the same issue, cleaning my teeth everyday even using a dental picker kit (don't know the official name) and I still get at least one cavity every year. My dentist just told me some people's teeth are just prone to them, and my teeth of lots of teeny-tiny grooves and crevices that make it really hard to keep them all clean. I use an electric toothbrush to help with cleaning and go to the dentist for whitening.

You may be over brushing your teeth. I did that, scrubbing the enamel off the front. I also have a very tough time getting my teeth white, but I did find one thing that worked for me on Amazon:

LOL. lets blame everything on genetics. You have to trigger a gene with environmental factor such as food, water, toxic exposure, alcohol, drags ets.

Have you tried oil pulling?? I have genetically weak teeth and suffer from cavities easily -- I have been oil pulling for a few months now and people always compliment me on how white my teeth are (I also use Arm & Hammer toothpaste it has baking soda). Also since oil pulling, my acne has been super clear. I'm not sure if it's completely owed to it, but I definitely noticed. Perhaps all the bacteria in my mouth being "pulled" out w the oil doesn't have a chance to travel to my face.

Basically every other morning before you brush your teeth or anything, you take a tablespoon of coconut oil (I prefer it melted down, my gf prefers it a little solid and breaks it up in her mouth), and swish it in your mouth for 10-15 min making sure to sift it through your teeth. I usually make breakfast or clean up a little bit as the time goes by. Afterward, DO NOT SWALLOW. Spit it into the TRASH can not your sink as it will clog the pipes. Then wash w regular mouthwash followed by a few mouthfuls of water bc it's gonna taste pretty filmy and weird. Then I eat breakfast. Then I brush my teeth. Lol it seems like a lot to do but once you get into a routine it's very second nature. Google it!

Ive used the Plus White 5 minute speed gel for years. I fill the trays with the gel every morning while Im in the shower, and thats it. The only time I noticed sensitivity was when I used it for like an hour before an event or photo shoot.

The best thing is, is that its like $10 at Wal Mart. I used to be all about Rembrant, or professional
whitening, and I bought this once when it was all they had at the store and ended up loving it!

If you start drinking nut based milks, that could help so much for calcium. Coconut, Almond, or cashew milks could maybe make a big difference for you. Good luck though!

I second the recommendation for charcoal tooth whitening. I drink an ungodly amount of coffee and after a month of using bamboo activated charcoal toothpaste (super cheap on Amazon), I've seen a noticeable difference without the pain and gum sensitivity of traditional tooth whiteners.

Nutrition, plus charcoal paste. & Maybe an occasional scrub with hydrogen peroxide.

I know people who have treated gum disease on their own with Auyervedic medicine & other natural treatments. Some dental procedures for whitening/cleaning aren't necessary for everyone.

I was able to treat my gum disease pretty successfully with Nature's Way PerioBright - cheap, full of great natural herbal extracts, and you can find it at GNC/Vitamin Shoppe/etc. I was once prescribed a hardcore mouthwash but this was more effective at treating my bleeding gums (gross, sorry) though dietary changes have certainly helped, too.

When I remember to do so, I add a bit of virgin coconut oil to my toothpaste. I'm too wimpy to attempt oil pulling yet.
