    Default Working in Australia

Hey guys, I am headed to australia in a few days on a working holiday visa, and just want to ask a few things to make sure I pack the right things

What is the dress code in most clubs in Melbourne? Do i need to pack some gowns? dresses? Do i need to make sure I have bottoms that cover my full butt, or are thongs ok?

Is there a type of shoe you need? I felt like i heard that in some places you can only wear clear stillettos? Is that true? Or can I wear any color I want?

Do most clubs work on a schedule basis or can a dancer come in whenever she wants?

Aside from my work visa, what else do I need to work in Australia? I read some stuff about an ABN and TFN. Which do I need? Do I need both? Is there anything else I need?

Lastly, is it even worth it stripping there in the winter time? Or should I just seek out office temp work?

for melnourne you will need a gown for Mens Gallery and something to cover your butt for the other clubs (except for kittens) all clubs are really strict with their roster, you usually roster on the week in advance. Any shoe should be fine, but bring two pairs at least. they are crazy expensive over there!! but only bring shoes if you actually have a working visa. If you're going on a tourist visa and they find dancer shoes you will be deported and banned for three years, happened to a friend of mine. (if this is the case you can eiher buy them over there or post them over before you go. also delete all messages and chat history on your phone regarding dancing)

Is Men's gallery worth a check out? Because if it's the only club I would need a gown for, I might just skip on packing the gown and try the other clubs

i'd at least bring the gown, they're about $200 over there. It's not like it will take up much room in case you dont end up using it. Yeah a working holiday visa allows you to work

Soz, I didn't see this thread till now. I might repeat some of what's already been said, I'm on my phone so reviewing is hard!

Kittens you can wear whatever you want. Mens Gallery you need lingerie and gown. Bar 20 you can wear pretty much any stripperwear, but no gowns and limited swimsuits. Doesn't need to cover the butt (g-string okay), lingerie is always a safe bet.

As long as it's a platform stripper heel (6"+) you'll be fine. Clear is always safe everywhere, but I used to match my shoes with my outfit because that's how I roll. Bar 20 will allow stripper boots, not sure about Mens Gall tho. Just make sure it's a platform stripper stiletto heel, no chunky or low heels. Kittens will allow anything, even sneakers.

Initially it will depend on how the club's roster is looking for that night. If they've had a bunch of girls call in sick, they might let you start that night. Otherwise they will schedule a trial night the following week. Schedules are weekly, often with a minimum number of nights or mandatory weeknight shift (especially for new girls). Fines often apply if you don't show for your scheduled shift (again, especially as a new girl). Kittens, meanwhile, doesn't give a shit-- as long as they aren't already over-staffed with dancers, they'll let you work whenevs.

Aussies need an ABN and/or TFN, but with your working visa I don't know if that's required. If you do need one, the dance manager will tell you in the interview and it's super quick and easy to sort out online before you start your trial shift. Kittens only needs ID.

Winter is ok. Not "wheeeeeeee yay look at all my piles of cash!!!" but it's not a total write-off, either. As long as you can hustle, you'll def still do better than an office temp. As is the nature of our gig, some nights are soul-destroying and others are great; it all evens out in the wash.

Awesome thanks so much! Sneakers sound amazing. Do I need to call these clubs to set up an audition or can I just show up at most and ask to audition? I know some clubs will say over the phone that they are full and then allow walking auditions if you're cute enough. I already emailed bar 20 and they said they wont hire girls who are only gonna work a few months. Men's galery gave me a number to call but I feel maybe just going in person would be best?

For kittens you can just turn up on the night.
Spearmint rhino is the only one that you have to audition for. Just email them and they'll organise an audition

Calling beforehand never hurts, and you will need to apply online first for Spearment Rhino and Centrefold to set up an interview/audition time. Bar 20 did a big cull of dancers 2 months ago, and they have a new Housemum now so some hiring policies may have changed, but I would still go in on a Thursday night (between 8pm and 10pm is best) and ask to fill out an application form, regardless of what they said in the email. Same with Mens Gall and Goldfingers-- go for a stroll down King St one Thursday night and just ask to fill out an application form at every club. Mens will call you back with a time to come in for an interview, and if successful will then put you on the roster the following week.

Kittens will let you start that same night-- call beforehand, and then go in around 7-8pm and apply in person. They recently closed one of their sister clubs and had an influx of dancers from Bar 20's most recent cull, so they had to turn away a bunch of girls a month ago. They might be hiring again now though. All you can do is try! Good luck! x

Is the kittens where the shootings were at the one that shut down? I'd like to try kittens. But the news about the shootings scare me
