After having issues with Windows Movie Maker I finally called a technician and the problem is WMV isn't compatible with Windows10. What recording software would be a good replacement? It doesn't need to be free but it does need to be simple to use.

What the tech said was that if I had WMV on Windows 8.1 (I did) it would still work with the initial upgrade to Windows 10 (it did) but while it was at the shop getting some Malware removed they updated Windows 10 again and the new updates aren't compatible fully. WMV will play but it no longer has features that I need such as the ability to put a watermark through the entire clip instead of just a few seconds at the beginning. I also have to go to a new screen to hit stop recording and a few other issues.
I looked it up and unfortunately the guy was right. You would think that would be Microsofts way of making us buy something comparable but not this time. It's a PITA.
Nch is actually like35 bucks which isn't a problem but it got a lot of bad reviews and there's misspellings in their ad which makes me leary.

I realize bumping my own post is tacky but I still haven't figured it out lol.
I use PowerDirector 14. They have a lot of different packages. All you really need is the video editor. It is super powerful and easy to use and very reasonably priced. It runs on even the crappiest computers.

Your tech is utterly full of it. Windows Movie Maker is a Windows product and, whereas it isn't "compatible" it is fully usable with Windows 10. You may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the software. You can also downgrade off of Windows 10 if you'd like.

If you're not going the movie maker route, you'll likely have to shell out $$ for something that does similar things. I use Adobe Premier Pro.
I never did get the editing portion to work again but what I've been doing is filming with WMM and then editing with Filmora and while I'm still learning it ,I really like it so far and I can do more with it then WMM. It has a free version to check it out but if you want to get rid of their watermark you need to buy it.
