    Default Thoughts on veneers?

I have a decently nice smile as is, had braces as a kid etc and regularly use at home whitening kits. However up close you can see a couple small chips (very minor but they bug the hell out of me) and also a few calcium deposits.

I'm consulting with multiple cosmetic dentists and am just curious if anyone here has veneers and what your thoughts are on them? Obviously the results depend greatly on picking a great dentist so I would make sure to choose wisely. Would it be better for me to just get them filed and whitened and keep my normal teeth? I really want a perfect Hollywood smile and am curious what others experience with veneers are.

Couldn't find any recent threads on this so sorry if anyone else already asked this

I would personally rather perfect my own smile then have all my teeth pulled and possibly end up with horse teeth. Go over that before and after book with a fine tooth comb.

If you get them, get the thin ones that go over your real teeth opposed to the ones where they shave your teeth down. I had to have one because I had a deformed tooth but it's getting cavities under it and it doesnt look good at all. It can also be very painful it's just a bigger deal than a lot of people think getting your whole mouth done. So check out all options first! It doesn't sound like your teeth are deformed or especially small so I wouldn't personally

Only if absolute necessary. I can tell when someone has veneers. Not sure if the dentists haven't yet perfected the procedure but they just don't look natural to me.

Thin "temporary" veneers do the job, but they have to be replaced every three years (I have them) - I could not have my teeth shaved for permanent.

Temps require someone who knows what they're doing.

They're great if you're a methhead and your teeth are rotting out. Otherwise, I'd leave well enough alone.

That's what I thought too, but I've seen some before and afters where the before pic looks fine and then the after pic looks WOW. But I've heard veneers are better for pictures than real life

I always think of Lindsay Lohan when someone mentions veneers. They did good for her, but now she looks a little horsey.

I want them really bad. I have straight teeth as well but they will not whiten no mater what I do. The ones I have been looking into are called "contact lens" veneers and they look good on all the people i have ever seen with them.

Chris Rock and Hilary Duff and Leann Rymes have them too. And with the exception of Chris's I saw nothing wrong with their teeth before.

Either way just make sure you have a good dentist that can make them look like your teeth before.

What's weird is I've found the whitening mouthwashes (Colgate, listerine etc) that are like $8 combined with whitening toothpaste works way better than most $40+ whitening strips and trays. Haven't looked into contact lens veneers much, will research for sure

Yes, definitely! The crest 3d white has kept my teeth white and pretty for years. They have a high level one that got rid of coffee stains that I had. I have my six month cleaning in a week so I'm going to ask about cavities and whitening toothpaste when I go. I'll report back!

If you just have a few chips, your dentist should be able to fill them in. I forget with what, but basically I had braces and still had a couple of spaces, so he filled them up with some type of dental paste and hardened it. The color looks natural. I've had them for 2 years and they have stayed on. They could fall off, but even if they do it won't hurt your teeth or mess them up. Definitely avoid veneers as they have to saw down your good teeth.
