Default Coffee Shop with workers in school girl outfits. What do you think?

I'm sure you know about the bikini barista thing, which took hold in the Pacific Northwest several years ago. It seems to be pretty successful. I'm thinking about opening a coffee shop in a relatively small Sierra Nevada mountain town. I plan to either use a school bus as the structure or a building that looks like a school house. I want the baristas to be dressed in sexy school girl outfits. Nothing crazy, but plaid skirts, tied up blouses so you can see there stomachs, and maybe knee socks. Do you think this is a little too risque, especially for a small town demographic? I assume I would be driving away female customers, but probably not younger ones. I would want this to have a drive through. I figure I could moderate the outfits, or even do away with the sexy outfits altogether if the community rose up against me.

Hard to say as it's already been done as you mentioned, but what about your area? Don't forget there's Twin Peaks, a restaurant where they wear jean shorts & tied tops
If you had to do away w/the dress, how would biz be then?

Ok I'm pretty lax regarding hot scantily clad women, however me personally, I'd rather a person be covered when serving food and drinks cause I'm a germaphobe and I don't want skin cells or belly button lint falling in my drink. Cleavage okay but that's about as far as I could handle.

Coming from someone who had friends in the biz and from the Pacific Northwest, I hate to burst your bubble. It's going to be a lot of hard work. Maybe the bikini barista business was intended to be legit, but there was a lot of bad business in the field. Lots of girls were selling extras for more $$$. You have to watch them closely. Most stands have now been shut down and there isn't much business. I live a block away from a popular stand that used to have a flood of men going there. It's reduced its hours to basically a few days a week that it operates. I think that you really need to learn laws and make sure your business is up to code when you operate so you don't have any big problems.

Speaking as someone from a small mountain community, I'm pretty sure they'd vote you out of town. Especially if there's a large religious presence like the town I'm from. You'd probably do better in a larger town or city if you did well at all.

A gimmicky niche business like that generally needs a large population base to survive, especially since a good % of the population (many females, uptight types, those who are worried about their image, etc.) will naturally avoid it. But even in a more populated area, I think your idea is DOA because it screams "pedophile" for any person seen visiting it. Even some guys who might be inclined to spring for an overpriced coffee in a bikini shop are going to be leery about visiting the school bus with girls dressed like underage kids. Your customers would be limited to freaks, perverts and others who aren't worried about being spotted in or around that kind of place.

Are you kidding me? "Extras" in a coffee shop? Zeus almighty is there anywhere these folks won't sell extras and how the hell do you even do extras in a public coffee shop?

^^I once saw a photo of a woman selling a dress or something like that, but she forgot about the reflection and was totally nude in the photo.

That's the part I was worried about. I guess I figured when most people think "sexy school girl" they're thinking Brittany Spears or some other adult pretending to be a school girl, but I suppose it's obvious what it's inspiration is

The outfit you used as an example is pretty similar to Tilted Kilt. Those girls aren't even called waitresses, they're called entertainers, too. LOL. But yes, be careful, know your lws, know your city/town. I can see how scandalized old people would get over this.

I think it's kinda....played out....the whole schoolgirl thing. It's too niche. What would be nice is to have sexy girls in nice lingerie or sexy short dresses and serve really good coffee, top of the line stuff and get some bigger spenders. Schoolgirl outfits just scream blue collar clientele and young broke guys.

    This . It's a cool idea though.
Agreed with the other poster to not limit the outfits just to school girls .

In my last city there was actually a truck driving around using this business model and they seemed to do pretty well .

I think if you pair school bus + sexy school girl, your town will be up in arms. I live in a smaller-size city, and I wouldn't even risk it here. I think places like Tilted Kilt get away with it because booze + "Celtic" as opposed to "school girl". TBH I think in small towns (and even cities like mine) there is already such a small market for independent businesses that if you start segmenting off the population with overtly sexualized services, you run into the problem of not having enough customers to generate revenue. I looked at taking over the lease for a nightclub in my area (the owners are absolute morons, it's a great space with a good licence and the town has some decent DJs too) but realized that part of the problem with the business was making it broad enough to target enough people to have enough revenue. But once you open it up to more customers, you lose the individuality and end up appealing to everyone and noone. It's hard to strike the right balance!
