Default Question about taxes for Canadian girls

I have a friend from Canada who's a model. She isn't a webcam model, she's just like a straight up model and ambassador for some indie clothing companies. I know nothing about Canadian taxes, but since she is considered an independent contractor basically, I figured it would be very similar to webcamming. She basically wants to know what she can claim on her taxes and what she should do. I told her that it is probably very similar to what models can do in the US, but I wanted to ask some of the Canadian girls here just to check and see. I did tell her to find a tax expert that specialises in this kind of thing to help her and make sure what it is she can and can't claim. Do you guys have any advice I can tell her? I checked the tax thread but it's pretty hard to sift through and find Canadian pieces of info. Thanks in advance!

She should get in touch with an accountant, but in Canada we can write off a ton more than our US friends.

As a model she'd likely be able to write off makeup, outfits, hair, nails and other beauty services; mileage, gas, and a portion of insurance if she travels for shoots; food and accommodation if she shoots/does promo anywhere other than her city of residence; and part of her cell phone bill if she uses it for work purposes (or the full bill of a specific business phone). Plus other things that aren't immediately coming to mind.

As a contractor in Canada you can basically write off anything remotely related to your work. There's also tax breaks etc for contractors/small businesses earning less than certain amounts, so she'll really want to visit an accountant rather than do them herself and risk missing out on deductions. Accounting services can be written off the next year, so they pay for themselves really.

I'm going to use an accountant this year because aw damn last year sucked trying to figure out all the write offs on my own. But yeah, I'd say tell her to go to an accountant because dear lord Canadian tax rules are hard. My dad was self-employed his whole life and did his own taxes and together he and I almost had a nervous breakdown trying to figure it out (since part of my house is cam-only, as well as phone and internet services and I had some stuff that was termed a capital expenditure omg). By the way, if you want a hilarious story to tell, have your dad ask what you wrote down on the worksheet as "silicone sculptures"...THEY'RE DILDOS DAD BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO WRITE THAT DOWN IN FRONT OF YOU. (My parents know what I do).
