Nikon dslr are great for 1080 point and click filming. They just lurch forward a bit when you start the record function

I use a webcam, logitech C920 paired with a Yeti microphone. Works fine!

Today's point and shoot digital cameras are higher quality when they were all the rage in 2008. Just don't get a GoPro, unless you want a lot of underexposed vids.

Most phones these days have pretty good cameras.

You are going to have to downsize all the content in order to be able to upload it. I shoot with 4k sony handycam. Still have to render it into lesser quality files for me to get them onto c4s.

Canon Powershot SX410 is compact and shoots in 720p HD, if you don't like the bulkiness of a dSLR that may work for you

I use a Nikon Coolpix S9300, shoots in 1080px and Sony Handycam DCR-HC21, it's a little older but it does the job. I had to order a special cable for my mac for the handycam but it wasn't all that expensive. I really want to save up for a Canon G7x Mark 2 though, those things are the bomb.com. I've been trying to keep my eye out for specials on them.

This is exactly the information I was looking for as well. Thank you OP for posting this thread! I've created my first video using my webcam (Logitech C310)...It was kind of difficult to shoot...awkward...adjusting the cam to get the best angles and all. I did my best with what I have but I really want to know what to upgrade to in order to shoot better quality videos without having the same issues.

Depends on how much you want to spend. If you want a point and shoot that films like a pro DSLR camera the Sony RX1 is $3k. The Sony RX100 Mark 2, 3 or 4 is also good and costs $300 to $1k. The Canon g7x costs $600.

The iPhone 6s Plus is the best phone on the market right now for video and in terms of quality I would say it is almost on par with the rx100 and the g7x. So, if you do a phone upgrade, you can use it for vids as well.

I'm also looking for a camera for clips, and have had my eye on this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00REMCY...47HDHR65&psc=1

Would this film at the same type of quality -or better - as the Logitech c920? Can anyone see any problems with it?

^^ I don't know much about video cameras however, by looking at the specs it has better capability in low light then the Logitech c920 because it has a low f-stop. Everything else seems on par with the Logitech. I don't know if I could justify the price for just a marginal improvement.

Thanks I need a standalone because I need it to be portable. My c920 is attached to a huge computer, so not portable at all. If I can get good quality from a decent camcorder brand with low-ish cost, I'll be happy

I use my iPhone, my point and shoot Canon G16 camera or my Logitech webcam that I have mounted on a small tripod that I bought off of Amazon.

Reviving this rather than make another thread. I have just bought a c920 for camming. I want to use it for some filming too would you all recommend an external Mic? I do some roleplays and quite a lot of 'talking' vids. On my old c910 it sometimes was difficult to hear if I had my back to the cam.

I also use my s7 for filming POV stuff or 2nd camera angles.

^^ Blue Yeti is usually the best overall microphone for the value.

Yes, get an external mic for sure if you're gonna use for filming and if there is gonna be a lot of talking. Pretty much everyone can agree that blue yeti mics are the best for this biz. I've heard complaints about snowball mics so I'd avoid those.

You can find some more info here

    https://stellar10.com/best-vlogging-cameras/

I personally like this one below, the Canon EOS 70D because of the flipping screen and that you can attach professional grade microphones to it. Then again, it costs a pretty penny.

Depends on the quality you want and your budget. I just got the Canon 80d but here are the camera's I have on my wants list/one's I've been interested in. Also alot of them are one's that Youtuber's use.

    Action Cameras:
    GoPro Hero5 Black
    Gopro Hero6 Black
    YI 4K Action Camera
    Sony X3000 4K

Dji Osmo: (They're kind of between action cameras and point and shoot)
Osmo mobile (if you want to use turn you phone into a vlog camera)
    Osmo
    Osmo +
    Osmo Pro
    Osmo Raw

    Point and Shoot:
    Canon G7x Mark I
    Canon G7x Mark II
    Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III, IV or V

    Mirrorless and Dslrs:
Panasonic Lumix G7 with Panasonic 25mm f/1.7 Lens
    Panasonic Lumix G85
    Panasonic Gh4 or Gh5
    Sony a6300
    Canon 70d or 80d

    High end cameras:
(These are not really all that ideal for vlogging but I've seen a few Youtubers use them because they like for their vlogs to be cinematic)
    Sony Ar7 ii or iii
    Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
    Canon EOS-1DX Mark II

I am currently savings for a Canon SL2 or maybe a T7i. There are plenty of reviews of cameras on youtube, but it breaks down to picking one and starting for many many years I was using my old canon elph 100 camera. but I didn't realize I should consider ungrading until I want to advance my skills for my making more video content for my video marketing and youtube channel.

You can get a decent set up for under $2,000 but even that can be a high budget. So you can see what is available for $1,000 down to $500.

If you already have a webcam , then you might want to boost your audio. and for some that just enough for the style videos they are making.

As a minimum I would go with a Logitech C920 webcam and an HD Blue Snowball microphone. The microphone on a webcam isn't clear enough.

I am kinda on a budget ... I haven't cammed in a few weeks and my dog ate my 300 comforter so you know how that goes... I think I am going to order a mic and then go from there...
