Default How long did it take for you to take off?

Hey, I'm a stripper trying to acclimate myself into camming, selling clips, and marketing.

I want to start with tumblr. Making gifs, pictures, etc to get myself out there. So far it's been very quiet. I also would like to have some clips ready to go and available on my cam profiles, so I'm working on that right now.

I guess my question is, how long did it take before you got more than one or two people at a time popping in and out of your room, started getting notes on your posts, and gathered enough of a following to make cash to survive off of?

I tried camming in the past, but this was a) before I was willing to put some thought and time into it b) I had a proper webcam, lingerie, "set" etc. I guess I'm feeling a little discouraged, putting up nude photos and gifs to no avail. I need some patience!

It takes time! Your Mileage May Vary, you must keep at it and decide whether it's indeed still worth your time and energy. For sure, especially in the beginning, your patience will be tested in so many ways.

Truly, the amount of time it takes to "take off" can be absolutely night and day between different girls. I do believe that if you're continuously growing, it's just a matter of time before you begin to gain traction. It's completely normal to feel discouraged though, I understand that feeling - just don't let that hold you back.

I suggest to at least give camming a trial run to get an idea of how much you can expect to make. I feel that camming is so much trial-and-error, the best way to test things being to jump in and give it a try. :3 A lot of my social media following is driven by the promoting I do in cam shows as well. If I'm not camming as much, I do notice my Twitter quieting down.

Well how did it take you to take off when becoming a stripper ???

You might find out that it might end up being the same answer.

You could make a killing your first night or you could take a few months to reach a goal where you feel that you can take it full-time.

but everything boils down to consistency and even working longer hours then you anticipated until you reach your goal. almost every venture where you are creating your own income works out that way.

Most of my customers don't even use tumblr or twitter. Just like most of my followers on those sites don't use cam or clip sites. My very popular clips I sell don't always get much attention on media, so it's really a poor reflection of how well I do. Though I HAVE made a good fistful of tokens from using referral links in my promos, so there's that, lol.

You will probably have more success on Twitter then tumblr.

In my experience, tumblr guys are usually looking for more extreme fetishes or financial fetishes. Frankly, you will not get regular vanilla customers off of tumblr but more extreme fetish customers. Plus, you will get more maledoms than submissives/slaves.

A long time! I haven't always been consistent which has let me down for various reasons but I find that in the end it's hours and hard work. I just have picked shifts and whatever happens I am trying to get on and stay on. In August I managed to make goal off my regs only on SM as the traffic was poor. My goals haven't been that high always but my rates are and I am happy with what I earn per hour.

I think that many people expect instant success as did I but its not that way. I use social media badly probably but it's the hours on cam that help me

Well, I got lucky starting off and made a lot of cash. But then I'd take really long breaks (years at a time) and I would have to say the minute I started treating it like a business and logging in, I started to see a change.

It starts with your momentum, dedication, constancy. Even if you only go on a few times a week. Go on a few times a week, every week. Once you get going and don't stop, they'll get used to you being a fap option (and some get notified when you're on) and will pile on in.

Indy takes even longer because you're a tad pole in a sea of many. Gifs are nice but without advertising, seo, and getting your name out there- who's going to see 'em? The more you put in, the more you'll get back.

On cam I did well from day one. Part luck part already having a background in sales/customer service/marketing etc

Clip wise I've given up haha! The only clips I could sell were extreme fetish ones and I found dealing with those guys too much, very intense, and it was making me start to burn out and take my time away from cam, which I really enjoy.

I've all but given up on social media now too and it hasn't changed my income at all, I messed up when I signed up to sm and used and underscore in my name, so Twitter won't post my cam models link as a link, so even when I was active I didn't get any click throughs!

I keep thinking about trying more vanilla clip making again, but I'm not interesting enough I don't think. I'm tattooed but not extremely tattooed, I'm thin but not skinny, curvy but not voluptuous, and I do very little that every others girl won't. The downside to this is I have to log on to cam to earn, but I bloody love cam so I don't actually see it as a downside

I did well when I first started camming, and from there it's only gotten better. In fact, I took a year off, came back, and now I'm making more than I've ever made in my whole camming career. I turned my monthly wage into my weekly wage, and it is all down to the hard work I put in, and my mindset. Set yourself goals. Some days are slow, some weeks are slow, even months. But this is the price you pay for having freedom and being your own boss. Be persistent, don't give up, anything can happen, you could 'take off' tomorrow!

I think I got lucky, because I started camming in December of 2010, when camming is busiest. I.E. Not during summer slowdown. Coming from the stripping world, I can say, however, that it was a real mindfuck.
Cash in hand with stripping, being able to 'read' a customer because he's standing there in front of you.
These are all things that are not a part of the Camming world.
Even though I have a strong sales ability, and was in corporate sales a long time , I felt that I needed to 'see' a client to sell to them.
With enough practice, you will learn how to 'read' your Cam room, and can sense when someone will buy.
Nowadays, I hardly ever have a bad $$$$ day on cam.
Why? Because I ask EVERY person who talks to me, what kind of show they are looking for.
I'm not talking about the weather, my nails, what's in the news, what movies are out...no.
    I'm focused on money.
    Giving great customer service.
I know when its time to log off...when I should stay.
Only time and patience will give you this skill.
Best of luck. I hope you can stick with it.

I "took off" the first day I cammed on Streamate. I worked on MFC for about a month before switching over. Sometimes you just have to try a different site.

Are you on a cam site? Or just tumblr? The best way to get traffic quickly is to join a larger cam site (Streamate, MFC, Chaturbate) and let them drive the traffic to you. Also, get on Twitter and Snapchat and start networking with other cam girls, promoters, etc. All of the info you need to get started is on this forum.

*Just* sending dirty pics out into the void on tumblr is a waste of time in my opinion. You don't need patience, you need a better plan. If you're trying to get traffic *before* signing up for a big cam site, it's really not worth the time. You're better off signing up today and taking advantage of the traffic they'll send you, THEN focus on social media as you grow.

If you're trying to generate indy traffic, I'd still recommend trying a bigger site first. I honestly can't even imagine trying to start off 100% indy in today's market. I'm sure it can be done, but it will take blood, sweat and tears to make it happen. Indy can be great (25% of my income is from skype shows) but generating traffic is not easy.

I don't think I ever "took off". If anything my earnings seem to gradually go up as I get smarter about hustling, marketing, sexual skills, and just being more efficient about everything. I want to continually improve because this career unlike anything corporate/vanilla does NOT have a glass ceiling. I don't have to give a BJ to anyone but myself to get ahead.

I know finding the right site was key to me making more money, so find a site that works best for you, look around a little bit and see which one works with your hustle. I doubled my income within a year JUST by switching to the right site.
Also, camming, for very few, is a BOOM you make stripper cash kind of gig. You need to develop a base of regulars for it to really take off. The secret to cam is:

    1.Get on cam
    2. Be entertaining while your on cam
    3. Stay on cam

From day one and I've quit/re-entered the industry 3 times over the years, every time I come back to camming I immediately do well but this is due to my escorting background (I'm in the UK so perfectly legal) as I was always lucky in that part of the industry too and could make them extend, extend, extend without even getting undressed sometimes.

That is the art of cam get the most money for the littlest amount of effort. Be a good actress because it is your personality they get hooked on normally not your body. My hustle is pay me or don't I don't care, so they pay me because they think I'm not money-hungry... little do they know

Same. The longer I do this the more money I make, just as a function of having more regulars and getting better and better at my job. OP, it's not clear whether you've actually started to cam on a cam site yet but if not you're likely wasting your time. Marketing is all well and good (though I've never been inclined to do it) but the #1 thing you can do for yourself as a camgirl is to be online where paying clients who are looking for a show can find you.
