    Default Wig wearers!

I wear a long blonde wig (a really expensive one) to make myself look different more than anything else. If it's on well it's far from obvious unless you knew but the odd person mentions it or asks and now some arse has tagged me in SM as wig wearer! My own hair is really dark and short I have toyed with the idea of colouring mine lighter so if the get a glimpse some how it's not so obvious? The other issue is its bloody painful after a few hours and hot in this weather.
Just wondering how others manage and if I'm missing some miracle product? I had considered a darker one or none but that would be a totally different image and I'm not sure that I would feel as confident without it to hide behind.. I feel that as someone who wears no make up in real life I look very different with totally different hair and make up, enough so I hope to make anyone unsure it was me if not to dismiss the idea.
Just wondering what others have done or do?

You have to purchase the ones that look human and possibly lace frontal. The hair follicles appear to be coming out of your scalp. Simply use a nude stocking cap and pop her on.

It seems you bought an expensive one but perhaps one that's obviously cheap/plastic looking or less human hair-like. If it looks real they can't tell, so invest in a new, more realistic one, this one ain't it. Either that or you might just not be a passing blonde.

Yes! I have the same issue with my wigs! It is so hot to wear them in the Summer and itchy too, even with the wig cap on. I will continue to wear them because I look different in them and it does disguise my appearance somewhat. But, I don't like to wear them!

I gave up on wearing a wig (also long and blonde... I'm latina, so it is a stretch lol), and I just use hair extensions. There are really great ombre ones that can give you a different "look." Also, colored contact lenses and heavy makeup are underrated in how much they can change your appearance.

    Hello Seashell,

My own hair is on the shorter side with lots of layers and texture so right now I am wearing wigs until it grows out more. I like the sexy look wigs give me and the way they disguise me, but I often thought extensions would be a good idea when some of my layers grow out. Yes, heavier makeup does make a difference in changing my appearance too. I think i want to look into contacts. I would like my eyes to really pop more with colored contacts. Any suggestions as to what brands are good to use for contacts?

I am another one of those people that wears a lot of makeup and a wig to sort of "disguise myself" on cam. I think it makes me look different. That being said what I wear now is a $50 lace front wig and I think perhaps it is too far on the cheap side. I get people everyday I go on cam commenting "is that a wig?" I dunno if it is because the artificial color or what- I think that is the main thing. If I am still camming by the time my current one wears out I am switching to more natural colored wigs... I have only had 2 people comment on the hairline being weird. I think my biggest complaint is that the lace front wig pulls on my hair really hard in a way a non-lace front wouldn't (I don't use glue just wig combs and strategically placed bobby pins). So I guess I will switch to non-lace fronts - not that I mind they are cheaper. The worst thing about these wigs is they almost change the shape of my face to being more square because I have to get them to cover my actual hair. I find myself way more attractive without the wigs, but I'd rather forfeit some $ than be recognized.

I had this problem when I first got mine. Mine is like my natural hair colour so it looks fine on me but my own hair is bright red and everyone loves it so I thought a little hair colour change would be all I needed. I was right and now I love how I look in it.

I spent an hour or so chopping at it to give it some layers around the face. I cut the fringe (bangs) how I would normally cut mine when I have them and I sprayed dry shampoo through it to take the edge off the shine and make it look more like a natural shine as opposed to plasticy shine. I also take a small section from the front, braid it and pin it at the back so it looks like I've done something to it. I've never been asked if it was a wig since.

As for being hot and itchy, I hope someone can help with that. I get horrible headaches from it but I really love wearing it.

Thanks all I deleted the tag it just pissed me off.

Mines very natural coloured and I have if pinned and the cap underneath it's just occasionally not looking amazing from the hair line if it's moved and I'm paranoid about it. Il get looking for another. Thanks all for the tips. I should add loads of people compliment it but some do comment and it bugs me

I wear a different wig almost every day. In fact I wear wigs way more often than I wear my normal hair. You can get great quality lace front wigs for about $75 from Lush Wigs and I LOVE them! So great. Also PowderRoomD has great wigs for $150. Both companies have wigs that are light and dont seem to be as hot as other wigs (at least in my opinion). They have tons of choices., most of PRD wigs are lace front and Lush Wigs has a huge selection of them. I recently bought 15 new wigs from Lush because they were retiring a ton of styles. For 75 bucks its a great investment.

i also gave up on wearing my red headded wig; its too hot, it itches and it gives me massive head aches. also when not in show, i have too much to do at home and the baby, that the wig was making me insane by always getting on my eyes. then if u take it off and someone enters ur room, its not easy to put it on and set it in secs, so i just gave up and let it be.

Maybe this will help for those looking to de-shine a synthetic wig?

I love wigs too, but the itchy scalp, and headaches are not worth it. Plus the fact that it's over 100 degrees where I now live.
Sidebar: I just threw away over 10 of my wigs, because I found a solution to my dry and brittle hair.
I wrote about this in the body business section.
I now use baby shampoo, and deep condition once a week ,( overnight under a cap) using coconut oil.

Just ordered one that has the right front on it seems a lot cheaper than the last but really good reviews so fingers crossed this one will be better. Other problem is my own hair is very thick so not helping the fit at all I might get it cut that would help too. I guess the discomfort i'm stuck with but heat is probably over it is England!

French Braid your hair underneath to cut the bulk, but before that; use tea tree oil on clean, washed hair to stop the itching, wig cap, and go. Just look at yt videos and reviews before ordering, stay away from jacked up hairlines (or tweak it yourself with a tweezer), and get a breathable one with lace and tracks in the back so it's not so itchy. Been wearing wigs on cam for 8 years. No itching or wig tags ever lol.

I love wigs, but for cam it is irritating sometimes. After 4+ hours of wear im ready to snatch it off, lights and me dancing around majority of the time does not help . I always get budget or clearance wigs, most are lace front and synthetic but able to curled, straightening, styled etc. I style my wig so it blends in wonderfully if it is not a lace front my front hair is usually left out in the front. Everyone in my cam rooms thinks it is real and alway get compliments. Currently my Hair has been in a different style past 2 months minus a wig and I still do not have to showcase my real hair.

I would definitely recommend lace fronts like others, getting a better quality wig as I know blonde wigs tend to look really wiggy. Clip in extensions may be an option maybe do slight bob-med length that way if you want to take in and out to distinguish yourself from cam a bit.

I used to always wear a wig in my shows, but lately only about half the time. Here are the tricks I learned to get a far more natural look. For synthetic wigs, use a product to get a more natural look. These are what I've used.

    • Shampoo, conditioner, and hairspray set designed for synthetic wigs. It's more expensive, but it can give a nice look.
    • Fabric softener. It's a cheap option. Wash with synthetic hair shampoo and soak in softener diluted with water. It helps with the sheen but you need to select a brand with a scent you can tolerate. Some brands come with over-powering scents.
    • Head & Shoulder's brand shampoo. I prefer this the most and discovered this on my own. Wash and soak in the shampoo, and it will come out with a very nice scent and texture. I've been meaning to write a blog post about it but never got to it.

After the wash and soak, you have two options. Let the wig air dry and it'll look nice. However, if you want to restore a synthetic wig to look brand new you need to get a fabric steamer with a brush attachment. The downside is it will take out any curls and straighten the hairs, so only do it if you like straight haired wigs. It also works getting out cotton texture. It can turn a completely unusable synthetic wig back to looking new.

I spread the damp wig out on an ironing board, top side up, and divide into several sections at a time. Get a wood and metal hairbrush and brush alongside with the fabric steamer brush to detangle and straighten. Start from the tips and work up to the cap. Then brush again with the steamer brush alongside a wood & animal hair brush for fine polish. I hold both the steamer brush and hairbrush side by side when I brush. Don't use a plastic bristle brush because the steam is hot and will ruin it.

I've used a fabric steamer on both heat resistant synthetics and non-heat resistant. It worked great in both. Obviously, you need to test on a small section first just in case to make sure it doesn't ruin your wig. Sometimes the hairs will tug and turn into a spiral cotton mess but going back over it takes those right out.

Brushes like I use. Metal brush straightens. Animal hair brush finishes.

    wood-metal-hairbrush.jpg

    natural-wood-hairbrush.jpeg

Steamer I use. Steamfast brand. It's cheap, but it's not very durable. I've had to fix the hose and brush multiple times.

    steamfast-steamer.jpg

I go through the wash and steam cycle a lot, so it does wear the wig out by pulling out hairs. However, my wig still lasts a lot longer because synthetic wigs tend to turn cottony which makes them unusable. The steam takes the cotton texture out.

Another trick is to play with the contrast and brightness on your video stream. That can actually help make the hair look more natural. I tend to darken my hair color that way.

Lastly, when I buy a wig I select one that doesn't have so much hair. Too much hair is a tell. Cut to suit your face or cut down on the amount of hair. Avoid a style that looks too perfect. Select a wig with bangs or a lace front to conceal the front hairline. The hairline and part are always tells. When you put the wig on, style it how you want and then mess it up slightly--especially the area in the part. Some uneven and out-of-place hairs make it look more natural. Barrettes and clips help too. I've also used Fanci-Full temporary hair color on the synthetic wigs to take out some blonde highlights that I thought didn't look realistic.

I wanted to ask about doctoring the hairline... So do I make it look more like my natural hairline or what? I'll try this when my wig is closer to retirement age so if I mess up it's ok. Too much hair? I don't believe in that. My natural non wig hair is a LOT of hair I have to get it layered and then cut with hair thinning scissors because my hair is very very thick. This way it looks better if all I do is roll out of bed and don't style my hair. Thicker hair is good if you are willing to style it everyday.. I have even had somebody ask me if my own hair was a wig haha ( in real life) before I started getting it cut thinner looking.

My personal opinion is I could care less if people on cam know I wear wigs.. but I would like to improve my wig game!
