    Default Sleeping Patterns

Up until like 26, I absolutely had to sleep for 8-9.5 hours per night straight or I could not function at all the next day. Now, pushing 30, I find it almost impossible to sleep for more than like 6.5 hours straight, and I constantly find myself sleeping for 5.5-6.5 per night and being perfectly content. Once a week or every 2 weeks, I find myself sleeping for an entire day or two, often like 16 hours or something, I guess to make up for lost sleep? I feel like I can't control any of it either.

Is this normal? Does it have to do with age? Or is it because of a change in like hormones or something?

Has this happened to any of you?

I've always had trouble sleeping, and lived on about 5 hours of sleep throughout my early 20's. Now that I'm 28, and have been through some burnout, I purposefully aim for 7-8 hours a night... And if I don't get it, I catch up by sleeping in as long as possible on weekends

Being busy or prepccupied with stress makes it much harder for me to sleep, so I definitely see a change in sleep patterns between the times I was working too much, or had life issues going on, vs. more stable periods.

Wait til you get even older, it will change more.
I read something, I can't exactly remember, but it said we're not really meant to sleep all thru the night, but say 4 hours or so, be up for a while & then back for a couple more hrs.
Which's mostly my sleeping pattern now.

edit: supposed to sleep for 2, 4hr amounts, rather than 8 full hours. psych2go.net

I just woke up and it's 5am. I was confused as to why it was dark. I feel so well rested, it makes no sense.

Yes, this stuff happens to me. I thought I had some kind of bi-polar thing going on. I will also have periods of insomnia and then periods where I sleep a lot. One time in College, I fell asleep on a tuesday and work up Thursday. It was so scary!!

Slowly happening here as well. Can't sleep for 11-12 hrs anymore, instead it ends up being like 5-6 and it's like... that's all I need, haha.
