Default Cops in this country are out of control.

A West Virginia police officer who refused to shoot a man holding an unloaded gun was fired for not pulling the trigger, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Then-Weirton police officer Stephen Mader was let go after a May 6 incident in which he said he tried to talk Ronald D. “R.J.” Williams Jr. out of harming himself.

“I thought I was going to be able to talk to him and deescalate it,” Mader, an ex-Marine, told The Post-Gazette. “I knew it was suicide-by-cop.”

Mader said even though he didn’t know Williams Jr.’s gun was unloaded at the time, the man had the gun at his side and was not pointing it at the officer. He also knew that he had been called to the scene because of a domestic disturbance and Williams Jr. had only threatened to hurt himself.

“I told him, ‘Put down the gun,’ and he’s like, ‘Just shoot me.’ And I told him, ‘I’m not going to shoot you brother,’” Mader said.

Eventually, two other officers arrived and one of them shot and killed Williams Jr., hitting him in the back of the head, just behind his right ear, The Post-Gazette reported.

The shooting was deemed justified, but Mader was terminated because he “failed to eliminate a threat,”
according to his June 6 termination letter. Mader is now working toward getting a commercial license to drive trucks.

City officials did not return calls from The Post-Gazette seeking comment.

There is probably some kind of secret-government black-ops program to allow things to get completely out of control, so they can impose martial law and lock us all up in FEMA concentration camps while the majority of the country watches KUWK and plays with Snap Chat filters. In fairness; this police officer made a decision under pressure to not take someone's life and he will be able to live the rest of this life and hopefully all of eternity with that decision. It is unfathomable that he was fired over it. The out of control ones are the media and also just the violence in general between police and the public at large. Violence perpetrated by police officers really needs to stop but I remember a time not too long ago police officers in my city were getting shot and killed on a pretty regular basis; sometimes even with automatic weapons. Physical violence is something humanity should have evolved out of a millennia ago.

Police officers in this country were taught to shoot when there is a threat. The problem is, the definition of such a threat is pretty ambiguous. Public don't have a saying in this. When a police officer shoots, he/she aim to kill (center mass).

I heard this too, I actually discussed w/a guy who claims to be in the top 1% (which I checked out & yep). He also said the real baddies are the top 00.1%. I feel like they want basically wage slaves, the rest locked up, a maybe a few that they're cool w/cause they have some $.
But yea more & more you read about violent altercations between citizens/cops

It's so sad. I have some relatives who are cops, and one of them is a racist asshole who posts the most offensive stuff on Facebook. I had to unfollow him because of the stuff he posts about black people and Mexicans. Ugh. Just because you're allowed to have a gun and patrol society doesn't necessarily mean you have good judgment.

I know it's a bad idea to micromanage people in any job, especially one like this where people have to make life-and-death decisions in the moment, but... there has to be a better solution. At the moment, it seems all a civilian can do to protect themselves is stay out of trouble and do whatever law enforcement tells you. Don't fuck around with someone who can take your life.

This's what I was referring to earlier re: Gia's post:

The system is not set up to benefit the general population. We are not seen as people, but mechanisms for maximising profit for the ruling classes. There’s only one attribute that matters: how much value can be extracted from us. The structure under which we live is not designed to care about anything else.

Strong psych testing for recruits, random psych testing and after stressful events, de-escalation and negotiation training -- ALL these are strongly needed over the whole country. Likely we have the most aggressive police training and behavior of all the advanced countries. And our legal/enforcement system promotes it all.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

A lot has to do with what the city's leadership wants. They write the rules for use of deadly force and put them in the police department's general order book. If you read the documents in the Weirton story above, it is very clear that the Weirton Mayor, City Council and City Manager want officers to use deadly force any time it is lawful. It is clear that message has filtered down to the middle management of the police. I have no doubt that it is now fully understood by rank and file. The city will stand by any officer who uses deadly force if it is arguably legal. The city will also dismiss any officer who doesn't.

As a country we need to have stronger limits on the power of police over people and national training and recruitment standards.

When the police don't obey the laws, there are no laws.

Ya it's a little nuts how quickly you can find yourself with 8 cops pointing a gun at you and, a canine unit snarling it's teeth, and you better keep walking backwards because if you turn around your dead!

Then it turns out they were supposed to be looking for a Black Dodge Charger, not a gray one. Well I guess I didn't get shot.... IDIOTS!

Charlotte police finally release Keith Scott shooting videos and say cop fired at him because his 'movements were perceived as an imminent physical threat'

But in the video you can clear see his hands and he was not reaching to anything even if he conceal carried a gun in the ankle holster.

cop fired at him because his 'movements were perceived as an imminent physical threat' . And that's what I was referring to earlier. Cops treat too many things a threat. Every unknown factor is a threat, a body movement is a threat. That gave them rights to shoot. This is just so wrong.
