Question Staying Healthy During Winter/ Flu Season?

Just wondering what all of you do to prevent, or cure colds, flu, that predominantly come during the winter?
Its been chilly for a couple of days, and I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. It went from 100 degrees down to 58 in my house. Not complaining, just don't know how to handle it.
Can't get sick now. Moving to a cold climate.
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Zicam at the first sign of a cold. It works for me 99% of the time. No flu shots. I had one last year and got real sick 2 weeks later. Happens every time!

Avoid sick ass people coughing and sneezing everywhere.

Ask people did they wash their hand before touching food I'm about to eat.

Take multivitamin and eat healthy and drink water

Wash my hands after touching things like doorknobs, remotes, shared handheld objects

Get remedies and rest as soon as I do feel sick

I get really lucky sickness wise. As in, it rarely happens for me. But if/when I feel that tickle - that, "OMG I'm getting sick!" I buy Emergen-C and down like three packets of that shit a day for a few days, just to saturate my system with the vitamins. It usually does the trick. Whether it's the vitamins or I was never getting that sick in the first place is anyone's guess. I'm not about to stop, lol.

Drink your fluids, water, vitamin C, liquid based soups, get as much sun and fresh air as you can occasionally (leave your house, lol) bundle up, and when traveling, pop a emergen C before you leave.

Because I don't interact with people on a daily basis, when i travel I emerge myself around sooo many people and the 1st thing that usually happens is when I get home I get sick as a dog. Block that out before it can happen.

    Adequate sleep
    Good diet
Avoid stress (easier said than done)
Drink plenty of fluids (not caffeine or alcohol)
And I'm one for regular seasonal flu vaccines - I would rather risk the side effects of the vaccine (thankfully, never had too much of a reaction) over being put out for two weeks with a full-on flu

Get sleep stay hydrated and be regular about good nutrition - 3 meals a day!

I learned the hard way last year when I kept doing camathons and eating take out. Minimal sleep, staying up till crazy early or late and never getting solid rest...I ended up catching a stomach bug and it took me a couple months to completely get over it. If my health was better i doubt I would've been feeling sick for that long. Working 9 hours a day, never leaving the house and not taking enough me time also played a huge role in poor health and hygiene

When the weather shifts and cold season approaches we definitely have to take extra good care of ourselves.

This sounds obvious but so many forget the importance of good hygiene. Wash your hands regularly. Sanitize all of your mobile devices, light switches and doorknobs on a regular basis. Each season go through your makeup bag and throw out old products. If you don't clean out your makeup you could be reinfecting yourself over and over again. I know it hurts to throw away pretty shiny things but what's it really worth when you get a stye on your eye? New toothbrushes or boil them if you're that thrifty. Pillows should be changed once a year but I'm always buying pillows so I probably do it more than the regular. It's disgusting really my quest to find the perfect pillow. I came down with the Flu 5 years ago? Never again, it was so bad. I was so depressed and the body aches, Good Lord. But on the plus side I made a killing in sneezing and snot clips that year. Five years later and they're still selling.

Its good that you know your body like that. So many do not, I've realized. My husband will get sick and then say "I don't know what happened?....well I did have a headache for two days and I felt a fever at 3am, and then the last couple of mornings I had no appetite etc" Like MoFo pay attention! I tend to get flu-like symptoms a few days before my monthly cycle. So the second I get that itch in my ears or throat I get on top of things. I know it's not the flu of course but recognizing what it is helps

Thanks everyone for all the great tips. I went out and got the zycam spray, emergen c,
and garlic. Ate some chicken noodle soup for dinner.
PGD, this is what I started doing, as far back as my first strip trip. I got really sick. From that moment on I became obsessed with wiping down surfaces and washing my hands. I still travel a lot, and I never get sick when I do.
I've been living with 2 of the dirtiest people I've ever seen. I wash my hands each time I touch anything they have touched, etc.

    Tomato Tea:
    V-8 or other tomato juice
one or two cloves of garlic crushed
half or whole lemon squeezed in
Tabasco sauce, Chilli flakes, hot peppers

Add tomato juice, cloves of garlic and the juice from one lemon to a sauce pan with your choice for something spicy. You want to make it as spicy as you can stand. The spicier the better! Bring it up to a boil on med. heat and they drink it hot. I normally run mine through a wire strainer so its just the juice im drinking. You can season with salt and pepper if you like.

You want to sip this hot and breath in the steam. I hate spicy food but when I make it I make it really spicy and eat toast while I drink it. Works a charm during cold season!

Do not order take out or go to restaurants. Cooks do not take time off when they have a cold. They work through it. Just FYI

I wash my hands as soon as I come back home. Vitamin C powder, zinc and vitamin D, and echinacea. Ginger root and garlic. Sea air and sunshine if you can get it.

Echinacea suppliment daily, I diffuse a germ-fighting blend of essential oils (20min on, 20 off), FIRE CIDER!! I swear by fire cider. If I start to feel something coming on, I'll take a shot of it several times a day until it's fought off. I hardly get sick ever anymore

Im lucky i rarely get sick but if i feel a cold coming on i go and sit in the steam room, seems to work well. Also dont push yourself too hard cos if you get run down you will be more suseptable to cold and flu virus; its ok to take a day off

I take extra Vit C three or four times a week during cold season (specially when I'm running out of my heated camming room to my ice cold house, those temperature changes do you in), and I try to eat lots of veggies, soups, and citrus fruit, but what has really brought be out of a cold once it´s starting, or any disease for that matter, is a few drops of the placenta tincture I stole from one of my mama friends. I realize it gets a little bit to process using placenta (and someone else's, at that) as medicine, but I want to throw it out there as I've had such excellent results with the tincture.... so good that I have not again gotten sick since I have it. Garlic works too as a booster once you're getting sick, but because of my stomach problems I've had to give up garlic, even as medication.
anyway, nice thread! I hate getting sick on top of my chronic ailments!

Not close to sea air, but plenty of sunshine. It's going to go back up to 100 degrees over the weekend, so that will help.
Yesterday's weather was perfect. Sunny, and 78 ish.
Luckily I have a beautiful rose garden, and a pool to sit next to. Catching those rays. Ah, felt so good.

These are the things I do when I start feeling sick: Sponsored

Enzymatic Therapy Esberitox Supercharged Echinacea, Chewables
    Ear candling
    NeilMed Sinus Rinse

and finally, a friend does this every day and rarely gets sick: Aura Cacia Essential Solutions Oil Blend, Medieval Mix (put a drop on the bottom of your feet every day).

I can honestly recommend drinking Super Antioxidant green tea by Yogi every day. Haven't had the flu or pneumonia in 5 years after doing this. For sinus issues/stuffy head, I like Alka-Seltzer Cold. I'd use it sparingly, however, because it does have a lot of aspirin in it. Hope you feel better!

I avoid people. Is where most terms are. Lucky to have good camming income so I don't have contact in real job like with people.
Also I recommend plenty orange juice and warm bed cover and maybe vitamin c supplement.

I tend not to worry about getting the flu, if I start thinking about it, I switch to other thoughts. Just the fear of it can manifest it like with any illness. I haven't had the flu in over a decade.

Of course, you do the common sense things like washing hands, eating well, lowering stress and avoiding people who are sick. That will prevent pretty much any disease.
